04-Aug-2008 -

Heinz, Frito-Lay, Kettle Foods and Lance Inc have agreed to slash levels of the cancer-causing chemical acrylamide in their potato chips and French fries, settling a lawsuit against them.

California’s attorney general had sued a number of French fry and potato chip companies under an act which requires companies to post warnings of any cancer-causing chemicals in their products, unless they can prove that the levels do not pose a significant health risk.

Acrylamide is a by-product of frying, roasting and baking foods that contain certain amino acids and in 2002, Swedish scientists discovered high levels of cancer-causing acrylamide in fried potato products.

The legal action began in 2005 when the attorney general sued McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, KFC, Frito-Lay, Kettle Foods, Lance, Procter & Gamble and Heinz, for selling potato chips and French fries containing high levels of acrylamide

My doctor said at the time I was diagnosed that it was "that damn mouse virus" that triggers breast cancer. Coincidentaly I had just cleaned out a mouse infested storage shed a couple of months earlier. Just before I discovered the lump on my breast I had a terrible flu. During my treatment I met over a dozen women who had breast cancer and had contact with mice. There is a lot of information on the internet about the "mouse mammary gland tumor virus." There are statistics showing where breast cancer correlates to the mouse population. The city I live near (1/2 mile) has a mouse epidemic because of the cat by-laws and the cancer rate is extremely high also. Mice are everywhere, I saw one scampering down the isle of the supermarket I go to.

You can get a "health bra" which you have to be measured for and it has a suspension bridge concept built into the support. It has to be put on in a specific way to ensure the breast is properly contained including the "fatty tissue" under the armpits which has to be manipulated into the cup. They are expensive but worth it!

It was my understanding that it was the high heat in trans fats that caused acrylimide? How has this become extended to starches?

NO ONE SHOULD EVER SLEEP IN ANY KIND OF BRA!--study lymphatic drainage!! (or underwear, for that matter--one's body should BREATHE while sleeping!

It is more and more difficult to find suitable bras which do not have underwires. I also require cotton with V-neck-type "straps"--not skinny straps, and the only functional ones I found recently come from a most unlikely place: WalMart.

However,I am saddened that several people use it as a place to bash & disrespect our President and Christian leaders. There was a time in this country when having a debate actually meant an "exchange" of ideas. However it may have been delivered with passion, not sarcasm and an elitist attitude. As for Judging spiritual things, read 1 Corinthians 2:14 ,and Romans 14:4. Having managed several lingerie departments ,let me tell you that the majority of women are wearing the wrong size bra! Same with shoes. That certainly would have an impact on the pressure they would cause on the body. I don't really think we should sit here and obsess like this! There are people out there who smoked their entire lives and ate and drank and were merry and lived to 100, but there are those people who obsess, by exercising and eating raw food diets that have keeled over and died at age 55!

I agree french fries are not healthy food, but way back when Breast Cancer Awareness Day was created by some ladies from NJ protesting chlorine chemical plants and the cancer cluster in their area, Dow Chemical took over sponsorship of the event and began to "review" all the literature produced for the event. Surprise! No more talk of chemicals causing cancer. The first thing diverted to was "fat women are responsible for their own cancer" and the discussion has worked ever since. We go running like lemmings over the edge of "What can we do/eat/not eat to prevent our own cancer," while the chemical companies produce more pvc, fertilizer and pesticides world wide. Do you feel manipulated? Wake up.

It seems that EVERYTHING causes cancer, yet not everyone gets cancer. It makes me wonder just how much of this is genetically inherited...

Boiled meat just doesn't have the same taste as fried or grilled. Being a low-carb heavy meat eater, I will continue to grill, fry, roast, broil, and toast my foods. My health has never been better than it has been the past few years when I went low-carb. I eat little of the starchy foods, but I do on occasion "pig out" on pizza, bread, and potatoes. Just not all at one sitting! (lol) I eat starches maybe once every two months, then back to my regular diet of meat, eggs, cheese, and a few veggies. And yes! I do ingest many supplements to compensate for lack of fruits, though I eat these occasionally, too. I have one or two days every 6-8 weeks where I eat anything I feel like eating such as pizza or potatoes or apples or bananas, then I go back to eating the way that seems to fit my own profile.

Early man ate a lot of roasted meats over an open fire.......I like mine the same.
