A cursory look at Chinese herbal shops in Honolulu revealed prescription drugs in supposedly herbal products. The labels are in Chinese and if the proprietors think it's a problem, they just change the label.

Reputation and accountability matter. Farmer's claimed to be "organic" because it sold. The California "Organic law" was totally voluntary but held the producer to a standard of testing and certification. That had value. The government's true value in these cases is being able to inspect for accountability and compliance.

Trust is hard to earn and easy to lose, unless you have a huge industry with a multi-million dollar a day marketing program.

Let the buyer beware. Never put your brain on hold. Ask

There are crooks everywhere, and all businesses. Money is the game, get as much as you can with as little expense to the vendor as possible. Kind of like "Mickey Ds," cheap food from everywhere all over the world and resale the garbage at a very high price.

Good grief! Besides all the makeup, i use to eat Dagoba's Eclipse bar every Sunday until the recall..Maybe that's why i have an autoimmune disease now...

I have been taking some of the NSI products for quite sometime. Does anyone have information if all of NSI products have high levels of lead or just some of their products. I think I will call them and tell them what I have heard and see what their response is.

While I know this is not the topic generally. There was a link to a Vitamin K read... I have been using Vitamin K to help reduce excessive minestrial cycles.. It is really important that I have it now as the older I get the worse gets. Without I it I would be stuck at home when my time comes around. Luckly it comes around less and less now. I have made sure My neice who was having trouble started using it too.

It you have heavy bleeding cycles it is a wonderful "cure"

We have to watch out for imported cosmetics too, especially from India. I had been using a eyeliner imported from India (bought a local Indian market), which I found out was loaded with lead. I had used this product for two years lining my inner eyelids with it. I only found this out after doing much detective work because of a stroke I had, leaving left my right side paralysed for a long time. It was found I had a hugh amount of lead in my blood causing the stroke. I tested everthing I was exposed to with no positive results. Then I read an article about Indian cosmetics. Sure enough when I had the eyeliner tested, the results were staggering. Now I watch out for all the cosmetics I use. Research tells me even some US cosmetics contain lead. I wonder why?

We don't have to look far away for lead contamination...

And put lead into lipsticks to be sold in upmarket department stores.

Hmmmm, I'll take my chances with my herbal remedies thanks.

not just those so called remedies, but it wasn't that long ago that KAOPECTATE and Pepto Bismol we found to have 25% lead in their prodcuts.

This sounds like they putting the scare just like they went after raw milk in California. There was no proof that E coli came from the milk but they wrote about during the spinach troubles.

While I realize this is true, I wonder if this is not an attempt by the Pharmaceutical companies to put all "herbal" remedies in the same class and make people think they are dangerous.

As a resident of the Southwest on the Mexican border I can’t begin to tell you how many times my land has been trashed by illegals! So who says we need to interfere with there folk medicine!

Now to be fair I have many close friends who are legal Mexicans and they are great hard working honest people! Also I must say I have a high respect for Mexican and southwestern all herbal medicine. It saved my but from viral pneumonia once and that is what got me into becoming an herbalist!

So I must say, BITE ME ABC, YOU BUNCH OF DRUG PUSHERS!

Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware).

People are often dissatisfied with traditional allopathic medicine. They then turn to over-the-counter, "quick fix" medicine, food supplements and herbal pills.

Far too often we look for short cuts to restoring a sense of well being.

Proper balanced eating, exercise, avoiding toxic, chemicals and taking a very few nutritional supplements, that we sometimes have a difficult getting in our grocery store food, takes care of most health issues.

It is so difficult for the average person to sort through the maze of advertisements for health care cures. Mercola's goal of changing the paradigm thinking for health care is a long hard road, but likely only a new way of thinking of what to be "healthy" means and how to arrive there is going to solve the health crisis in our country.

Mexican, South American and Asian imported supplements are not the answer usually.
