Just wanted to say that I counted 13 ball passes AND I did see the gorilla. I didn't appreciate the invisible commentator saying he "didn't believe me."

It's not mind boggling in the least. Given a task to concentrate on people and, for that matter, dogs, will concentrate on it in order to do it well, and will therefore tend to eliminate peripheral phenomena, or at least register it only "peripherally," and therefore as an unspecified "blur." The possible answers given should include "something," in addition to "cat," "mouse," etc. Because that is exactly what one notices "peripherally." If one is not concentrating on the task of counting, identifying the intruder is spontaneous.

The mischief in our culture comes not from this psychological characteristic as such, but rather from the abuse and manipulation of "focus" for often tawdry--or worse-- commercial ends. The solution--if any--lies in the quality of the content allowed in the media. We live in a highly commercial and morally decadent culture. That is the problem, not the human tendency to focus on a task in order to get it done properly. At the individual level, the solution is to use a little discernment regarding what we choose to focus on. Spending slack-jawed hours in front of a television is just not very intelligent and fosters mental passivity and, frankly, the kind of dumbed-down population that has come to characterize too much of the modern world.

I saw 13 passes and clearly saw the gorilla... And it was clear to me!

I was surprised to see it was hard to believe, but I just returned from the healingfest in Denver, a phenomenal experience of connection and personal transformation. My focus is definately improved, so is my present time consciousness!

You should look into this, it's a method called Network Spinal Analysis, it's a Chiropractic technique, but a light touch energetic one, absolutely fantastic!

I saw it the gorilla and counted 14 passes of the ball. I don't like that Dr Mercola writes he doesn't believe it if you see the gorilla. Jimminy! I think I see too much of everything all the time!

I saw the gorilla, no problem. Maybe that's because I"m ADHD and I always pay attention to everything unless I'm hyperfocusing on something (in which case WWIII would start right next to me and I wouldn't notice!). That's one reason I like Dr. Mercola so much. He's one of the few non-mainstream doctors I know of that actually believes ADHD is real! :) However, I do think he should accept that some of us really do get much needed help from Ritalin. Nothing else I've tried has worked nearly as well.

....This is almost certainly, the most important lesson on your whole site.....

We' re all being manipulated,deceived, and controlled.

Health, financial, life-style choices, fashion, .......ALL about getting the money out of our pockets and keeping us from thinking too much!!

It just goes to prove that:

"If you keep your eye on the ball.....you miss the game!"....of life.

A great lesson to us all to keep a truly open, enquiring, disbelieving mind and not to become too focused on any one aspect of anything.
