It takes roughly 20 minutes to heat the thing for use, but goes for 45+ minutes and not one chemical will be used. I've had it for roughly two+ years now and I love my vapor steam cleaner, though it wasn't cheap, at about $400. I bought mine for it's longevity and high heat steam strength, but there are other models. About two years ago I quite literally cleaned my way of life up by detoxing my body and eating a more correct line of foods and cleaned house by getting rid of household cleaners and toxic chemicals, as well as all beauty supplies and body cleaners...and I noticed that when I switched to all organic and natural cleaners for my body, that I could go on for months without having to clean my tub or sink area...there was no residue to clean. But then my husband was redoing his bathroom and was using mine temporarily and brought the body cleaning products he buys from the neighborhood store to my shower/tub and the residue and mold that's developed since is awful. So, all those wonderful products you buy are actually not only toxic crap, but, they're the reason you have to clean, using products that cause mold and residue in the first place. I'm not a kid playing out in the dirt, so I can't speak of that kind of tub gunk :)
