Dr. Cousens has cured people of T2D using a non-SAD diet over 30 days -- primarily raw/non-processed/vegan.

If you watch the video you'll see that people have a hard time adjusting to life without sugar in some form.

I believe that of the very few people who made it all 30 days, none could stay on the program back in the "real world" with the temptations all around. Imagine -- proven cured of a deadly disease, they are unable to resist a return to it.

I do not eat sugar of any kind, and limit processed foods to a small amount. I eat 6 prunes a day, one cup of a oat bran (real oat bran, not a cerial) I do put about 1/3 Cheerios in it.. And I use light soy milk for milk in it. I eat 4 oz's of wild caught salmon every day because I need high protien. I try and eat one sugar free 80-90 Calorie Yogert cup, or one cup of fat free cottege cheese sometimes durring the day. I have to take supplments for breakfast because of the surgery giving me mal-absorbition. I have lost and kept off about 100 lbs. But No matter how careful I am, and how I try to follow a routine. I am still always starving. I have been starving all of my life. I do not use any carbonated drinks or soda. I try and get some fresh green veggies every day. I usually make some soup. and eat that all week. When I get hungry I have some low calorie cracker breads with no yeast for a snack, maybe with some hummus on it. Or I eat some canned beats. Or I cook some dried beans and keep them in the fridge for a snack. I do great until evening and then I starve. I Try and eat a little bit every 3 hours all day so I do not get too hungry at night but it does not seem to help. I do an elipitical every day for 25 mins, then I do a couple of miles on the stationary bike, depending on how I feel as to how far I go on the bike. I have been going to a tanning booth because it is so nasty and cold outside to get sun. I drink good real tea, Oolong, green, and some black. I do drink some coffee in the morning. I try and take very good care but no matter what I do the weight keeps creeping back.. and I am still always hungrey. I think I have that chemical imbalance in my brain that does not tell you that you are full. I get phisically full where I can feel it, but as soon as the stuffed feeling is gone. I am starving again.. Even if it is a Bowl of salad Then I am good for a while.

There are as many reasons why people are fat as there are reasons people are thin. I had the lapband surgery 18 months ago, and have been very pleased. I was never unhealthy to begin with (normal blood sugar, pressure, lipids, etc which was the result of my healthy eating and regular exercise), but I weighed 300 pounds. I never ate huge amounts, and always ate wholesome organic whole foods. In my case, the amount of food that I could eat in order to lose weight always left me very very hungry, irritable, and thinking about food all the time. I had to get my calories below 1200 a day to lose ANY weight (this was determined after many months of dipping down to 1700 calories a day, then 1500 a day, and not losing weight). The lapband takes away the hunger and food obsessions, and allows me to be satiated with the tiny amount of food my body requires. On an average day, I consume around 1200 calories, and burn off around 300 calories with exercise. Without the lapband I could not comfortably consume this small amount of food, as it asserts some effect on the vagus nerve which affects hunger (and it limits the amount of food required for me to feel satiated). Do any of you really know what it is like to be hungry, month after month, doing your best to eat very little and exercise, and yet barely see the scale budge? And before you assume, my thyroid levels were all normal (I had a naturopathic physician check out everything long before the surgery to rule out any hormonal or dietary causes of my weight), as well as other hormonal levels. In a perfect world, we wouldn't need weight loss surgery, or pharmaceuticals, or anything outside ourselves. Will power would be enough for all of us to live perfect healthy lives that lead to normalized weight and health. It isn't always enough (for all of us), and tools like weight loss surgery give some of us the edge to succeed where we have always, always failed (as 98% who diet do).

I have always struggled with weight, even though I was very active and athletically fit. I then had an accident injuring my body only to be followed with a serious illness. I am only sharing this because I love to be active and have never been considered a lazy person. After the accident and illness, my body has been unable to function properly leaving me in severe pain. I am avoiding pain medications at all costs. I am an Eating Disordered Professional so I have much knowledge and education regarding nutrition and the like. When one has no energy or stamina to even go grocery shopping for healthy food, it begins a terrible cycle of unhealthy living and eating. To make a long story shorter, I began eating mostly raw, nutrient dense, whole food I found at the Health Freedom Expo in Schaumburg last June. I have lost weight and gained much energy. The food is conveniently packaged and ready to eat so I don’t have to worry about the energy needed to shop or prepare the food myself. I knew I needed to do something because I couldn’t continue living like I was. Just since June of 2007, my life has turned around. I still am not where I would like to be but everyday, even the bad days, seem to be better than it was before. Eliminating processed foods is the first start to feeling better. If you can eat whole and organic that is great too. Then raw food is very beneficial to many. Everyone has to figure out what works for them.

I was desperately researching everything, this was before the net was widespread, and saw a reference in passing to the danger of blood sugars rising in diabetics when using niacin for these conditions. When I asked the nurse practitioner who was treating me about diabetes, she told me I was not a diabetic because I was not excreting sugar in my urine! I am forever grateful that God led me to a new book on the library shelf by Dr. Richard Bernstein about controlling diabetes with low a carbohydrate diet. Anyone who has not read this book and suffers from diabetes should do so right now. Today my cholesterol is 260 and my tris run about 300 although I have had them down to 200 when I am stringent, and no, NO, medication at all. I do volunteer work at a nursing home and must tell you, that anyone who has seen the suffering of elderly diabetics would want to do everything in their power to prevent what I see weekly on my visits. Several months ago one of my favorite older gentlemen lost both his legs below the knees to this disease. It killed my father and both his parents and I never want to end up that way. Nobody should wait til they develop this disease to take action.

And I have never been at all overweight, so don't assume that because you are thin you have a margin of safety. And my heart scan was 0, and although I have been postmenopausal for twenty years, I have great bones. My regular physician and cardiologist scratch their heads in puzzlement and say "I don't know what you are doing, but keep doing it" So I eat low carb for my protein type and let Dr. Mercola be my inspiration.

As a child, I consumed vast quantities of corn syrup and wheat gluten, but I also pedaled my bicycle at least 5 miles every day, and consumed plenty of oatmeal and/or shredded wheat, keeping my fiber intake at a healthful level. Too much food lead me to grow out instead of up, and so I was the shortest of 4 boys (68 instead of 73-74 inches), and tipped the scales at over 200 pounds. At 16, I finally woke up to the fact that my mother was to blame for spooning 2nds and 3rds onto my plate and then encouraging me to 'clean my plate', and so I took a vacation from the dinner table.

I expected that this would leave me feeling tired and depleted in the evening, but since I had many stores of energy in me, and I continued to eat moderately healthy meals for breakfast and lunch, I didn't. In fact, I felt much healthier at night, and could play or study later without tiring.

I lost 25 pounds the first month, and in the 2nd month, I agreed to attend dinner under the condition that I had autonomy over my plate, and I lost another 15 pounds. By the summer, I felt fit enough to join my brothers on a 2-week trek through the Wyoming Rockies, and on my return, I found myself to be a muscle-bound 140 pounds.

The point I am making in all of this is that Americans eat too much food. OK, we also eat too much food that has been "synthesized" from "extracts", but that doesn't mean that an occasional soda will throw us off the health wagon.

By eating less, we can retain enough clarity and energy to exercise, and by exercising, we can energize ourselves to do more. It is a beautiful irony in that it actually works. Don't sit, sulk and snack. Get off your duff just do it, whatever it is. The more you do, the more you can do

Everybody who has opted for surgery thinks that they have tried every option possible and that we "sitting over here" don't know what it like to reach such a drastic decision.

There is something wrong with the world today, and i think they putting crazy pills in the water or something, it has become so hard to give someone some good advice these days.

Take a look at GS smiths comments. That is what I have read on many forums dedicated to Gastric bypass.

What are people thinking when they go in for it. Take a look at it logically i find that putting a band round your stomach to stop you from eating, would be as drastic and sewing your lips together to stop you from eating.

I am sure the only reason why your "doctor" is not doing that is because you wont be able to speak or I am damn sure they would have sewn your lips together.

And the damn surgery costs so much(and much more in recovery time). I have seen almost everyone who has done surgery lose a year of their life.

I am sure all they had to do was get into a an institute like Hippocrates or some other naturopathy camp and stay there for a year and they would have lost all their weight without any worries.

I think that they can even get admitted to a hospital or stop themselves from eating under medical supervision. They can be locked in a room and even have some one like a personal trainer who will never allow them to overeat and keep monitoring them. I am sure that would be a better option.

Have a "band" on the amount of food getting into your house, have that "band" outside your body. I think that is a healthier option.

I heard that the stomach inner line is regrown at a very fast rate or else the acids in the stomach can dissolve the stomach in a few weeks, well a band could mes

THIS SIMPLY WASN'T THE NORM WHEN I WAS YOUNGER!! Very few people were morbidly obese. Now they are everywhere in this country! Most of these people don't spend all day stuffing themselves. Some do, of course, but most of the very fat people I know eat no more than I do and many eat less, and low-fat at that. (I refuse to eat foods, like yogurt, that have had the natural fat reduced.)

Obesity as well as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, asthma, and immune system disorders are off the charts these days. I believe the catastrophic rise in the aforementioned diseases are attributable to experimentation on the population through mass medication and vaccination, aerial spraying, exposure to electromagnetic and microwave radiation, and additives to our water and food, including genetically modified organisms. Just how much can the human body take?!

A detox program is the best way to rid oneself of heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, and jump start weight loss. Do some form of exercise every day. People who are too overweight to comfortably exercise can walk and/or do water aerobics. Yoga was mentioned and is excellent for toning and limbering. I like to bounce on one of those small round trampolines. I also do a Curves workout three times a week. I DON'T use any of the Curves brand supplements or food products, though, because they are loaded with toxic crap. Once again the almighty dollar trumps integrity.

By example we should exercise with our children, sit down with, and teach them what is good to eat, and allow them to help us in preparing the meal. One of the best teaching tools is to make sure we eat with our children. I know with the hard work we put in this is sometimes difficult, but there is a choice to be made here. A second vehicle, or a show-off vehicle, or the health and well being of our children.

Water, exercise, fresh air, a well balanced meal consisting of fresh whole foods, proper sleep habits, sunshine, and a good spiritual posture, are the keys to a healthy life.

We are in a battle, we as parents are up against the "boob" tube, print ads, full of lies, and radio that tends to support whatever is the flavor of the day. I say more family time, much, much less boob tube.

Then we will find more time to be families, and not strangers. Only then will we see some positive changes in our daily lives, and those of our children.

My other sister almost died twice. She is malnourished. Can't eat anything. Drs. put her in the hospital to try to fatten her up. She use to weigh 242. Now she is skeletal and looks very old. She's about 112 lbs 5'8 large frame.

Myself? After having a right craniotomy I was put on 80 mgs. of Prednisone for Neurosarcoidosis. I went up to 297 lbs. in a few short months. I was already heavy but with the Pred I gained 70 lbs. I gave up the Pred, went mostly organic and lost 125 lbs. I use to drink alot when I ate and quit that too. Now I found out that I have gallstones. No symptoms. I probably had it all along. Now I'm working on shrinking them. NO SURGERY for me.

I am totally against drastic procedures like that to lose weight. I've seen the effects. Oh... and my younger sister still can't ride a bike or play ball. She's gained her weight back.

Not to mention the bad sideaffects. I know a woman who was in horrible pain everytime she ate anything, another man who was sick all the time.
No thanks, for me I prefer to go the slower healthier route!
