I had my gallbladder removed 15 years ago, due to stones. I wish I had investigated the alternatives more thoroughly, but I was in the hospital with severe pain, so I trusted my Dr. when he said "you don't really need it". Ha! I've been taking bile salts with every meal for about 5 years. It was until recently that I read that I should be trying to eat meals at approx. the same time every day too, and not snack inbetween (difficult, as I have low blood sugar issues). That's because the liver will learn to put itself on a "schedule" and increase bile production at mealtimes. I also recently learned that I'm a "protein metabolic type", which needs more protein and fats and less carbs to feel great. Difficult, as my body has trouble digesting fats. I appreciate the comments on lipase. I'll be checking that out soon.

I wish Dr. Mercola would address more specifically just what we gallbladder-less types need. I follow the "Nourishing Traditions" way of eating, which discusses the importance of certain, healthy fats for brain function and optimal health. I feel at a loss as to what I should be eating sometimes, as my body can't process the fat anymore. :o)

i know that artichoke is good for the liver. and supporting the liver is important when you don't have gall bladder b/c it takes over the gall bladder's job of creating bile to process fats. fresh artichoke is probably best, but i would think artichoke capsules could be beneficial. consider doing a liver cleanse every year as well.
