I am not big on soy, (which I understand is only safe when fermented, such as Miso and Tempeh?)--and I am not foolish enough to reverse process and go back to eating meat. I am obviously a protein type (having had yrs of success when I was younger on the "Atkins" diet' and was able to subsist w/no problem w/ No carbs, which I realize now is not the best choice--nor will my body permit me to. I haven't touched beef in yrs; and will not. I don't see how these days with all the info on the dangers of meat consumption, not to mention the inhumane handling of animals world-wide there should even be a question. It seems the natural way to evolve these days, physically and spiritually, is avoiding meat. How can you suggest otherwise. And no, I will not eat raw meat. It just doesn't make sense anymore. I love your articles; I appreciate and relate to your passion for what you teach. But I am stuck on this one. Thanx, Tracy

You might want to try out the Instinct Diet. We don't necessarily mean hunt down deer with your bare hands and go crazy, but the Instinct Diet is more of a psychological approach as much as a diet in and of itself. The book does feature recipes and menus, however. The book is the brain child of Dr. Susan Roberts, PhD, who spent 20 years researching the mental framework of eating and diet. She points out that hunger is normal, but because of the change in human society we have unprecedented availability of food. Short term loans would be put to good use getting the Instinct Diet.

In fact, going by anthropological history, this nutritional diet typing is a load of nonsense. Over the eons people have always adjusted adequately to the environment in which they lived. This was possible because food, whever it was found, contained all the essentials for robust good health. So what has changed??? It is a litany of man-made errors. It all starts at ground zero... ie the soil we grow food from is totally stuffed...but that is not where it ends. It affects the whole food chain.

1. Synthetic fertilisers devoid of numerous minerals and trace elements.

2. Numerous chemical pollutants.

3. General refinement of staple foods, thereby removing essential nutrients.

4. Processing of foods.

5. Genetic modification and development of terminator plants that don't contain the nutrients for self-propogation.

6. Prescription and non-prescription toxin-ridden drugs that have no nutritional value.

This is the recipe for global malnutrition.

We all eat from the same denatured pot.

We can blame this or that diet but when it comes to the point it is quite simple. It is the applied food technology as well as the applied medical technology that is at fault. They represent the biochemical assault on our metabolism causing widespread epidemic of degenerative diseases none of us can escape. There is only one way to avoid this epidemic and that is to avoid the experts that produce all this rubbish and convert to doing your own thing and take charge of your own destiny.

Some people like to be "typed", even though the idea is simplistic and does not allow for individual variations. (What if you have symptoms from two or more types?) Typing is the basis for a lot of best-selling books, so it is a proven money maker, whether scientific or not. (Remember the "I'm a winter" color system for women?) If a person feels better eating more or less meat, vegetables , or grains, it should be self-evident and not require you to spend money typing yourself by some trademarked method.

I was a wheat-free, sugar-free, dairy-free vegetarian for 14 years. I avoided all the bad stuff like coffee and saturated fat and processed foods, and ate mostly fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes.

First I developed monthly migraine headaches. Then I got fibromyalgia. Eventtually I could hardly lift an empty teacup. After 14 years of pain, I found out I needed animal protein and fat, especially saturated fat.

I'm much better now, after about 8 years, but I still have not recovered to my pre-vegetarian health. I'm going to try this next. I'll let you know.

The other markers for knowing if this helps me, outside of how I feel, is my energy levels. I will sleep more on carbs and have more energy on proteins. Simply put, I create more sugars on carbs more quickly than on proteins. I have more energy for longer periods of time on proteins. I do not need any further testing to tell me what my sugars are to prove my point. It is unhealthy for me to continue eating carbs, my body producing all that insulin to bring my sugar levels down - not good for so many reasons. But this has worked for me and I feel great!
