I consumed.

I want to start Atkins again...I want to eat this way for life but whenever I cut the carbs way down I get insomnia..and since insomnia is something I deal with already I don't like to make it any worse. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Is it something to do with ketosis? Is there anyway to overcome it and still continue with Atkins? I sure would be a happy gal if there was!

I used to think of myself as a "compulsive overeater" and simply could NOT control my overeating. Then I started Atkins. I do not crave sugar, I don't have any desire for bread, and I have more energy than I have had in a LONG time. I suspect that I was borderline diabetic (I'm 47 and considered obese). This is the first diet where I am sure that I will reach my goal weight. I have absolutely no problem sticking to it. I am truly amazed at this fact. Before Atkins, I would eat carb-laden foods every 2 to 3 hours. I just could not get enough. I went on a high protein, moderate carb, low fat program and lost weight, but found that I just could not tolerate the cravings and would cave. I recommend this diet to everyone that has trouble sticking to a plan, but the caveat is that you HAVE to eat the way that Dr. Atkins says. You can't do a "reduced fat" version of this diet, as many seem to think is "ok".

This IS a lifetime eating plan. The problem is that people treat it as a diet and once they have lost the weight go back to eating carbs. You may have some on occasion, but you always have to bear in mind YOUR maximum amount of carbs to maintain your weight.

Frankly, I can't see myself missing the starchy carbs. I truly believe I was "addicted" and this addiction was broken in the first two weeks of induction. I do hope that people eventually realize what a great way of eating this is. I also recommend the Dr. Atkins NEW Diet Revolution 2002 version of the diet. It does not allow the bars and shakes on induction, which can cause stalls in weight loss, and overall just aren't as healthy as "whole" foods.

I would encourage any skeptic to at least try it for a month and see for yourself. You can always go back to your carbs, but I suspect that you won't want to!

After that, carbs are raised as high as the individual can tolerate... ie - customized carb levels. Has no one read beyond Chapter 15 of his book???
