I am a bit unclear as to whether the hydrogen peroxide goes in healthy ears or infected ears. Can someone clarify?

I have been telling everyone about this and people think that I am just coming up with some silly idea until one person that said wow my mother used to do that to me when I was a child all the time!!!

Can anyone tell me what the exact method of cure is with Hydroxen Peroxide in the ear canal?

Surely, since the ear is completely sealed via the ear drum, hydrogen peroxide cannot escape through there and into the eustachian tube to stop the flu / bacteria multiplying? Surely a nose rinse or gargle would be more effective?

I'm aware of how Hydrogen Peroxide works as an internal therapy for treating viruses, but I'm at a loss to understand how this can possibly work on a physical level through the ear ? Even if it does kill the bacteria/virus at the ear drum, how can this possibly affect the rest of the body? Unless of course we're looking at a very effective placebo effect...``?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not dismissing this method, and I'm very likely to try it myself, but I'm very very curious to know how it works - nobody seems to be able to explain. And everybody seems to be forgetting about the fact that nothing can get through the ear drum membrane because that's it's job!!

(and yes I do also use homeopathy in case anybody's wondering whether I'm an alternative medicine sceptic !!)

Do you use the peroxide only when needed, or as a prevention?? I would think that putting liquid in your ear when not needed would not feel too good. Just like when you have water from the swimming pool. I do not put alcohol in it if there is no water.

Does it need to be dyluted with water or can it be administered straight from the bottle?

I've done this for my family for afew years now. H2O2 definitely helped my colds, sorethroats, coughs and fevrs go away. Also at the sign of my sore throat getting worse, H2O2 prevents it from getting even worse. It helps drain the Eustachian Tubes, I think, as often it feels like fluids are emptying into my throat. I do think that one can catch viruses from the mouth, nose and eyes too, besides the ears but i think many of the germs settle in the Eustachian Tubes by entering from the opening that leads into the throat by the tonsils. Has not caused any side effects.

Someone tell me how many drops can I put into an infants ear, is it nessesary to drain it? Im gona have a hard time getting the drops in imagine getting him to hold still to let it out!

I used to use this to get rid of earwax and it worked for about a month or two, now it doesn't work anymore for some reason, and i have been getting earaches that don't seem to be going away.

So I don't know, this one guy I know and who's opinion I really respect swears by it, but I'm worried it's been messing up my ears so i guess I'm gonna have to stop now.

I came down with the flu on Christmas day, I had never had it before - awful. I forgot about this approach until last night, four days into the flu. I did it with both ears around 3:00 in the morning, lots of fizzing - and gargled with it too for good measure. I think it broke the back of the flu, soon afterwards I did not have a temperature and I had been 100-101 for 3 days. This morning I did have an earache in one ear (as someone else mentioned) but I did that one again this morning and it seems OK now. It could be a coincidence but I will try it at the first sign of cold or flu from now on...

I've successfully used peroxide on a number of occasions to stave off colds at the first symtoms. Unfortunately I now have the flu (my own fault - too much work, not enough time to eat properly) and, having put peroxide in my ears this morning, I now have earache to add to my troubles. I noticed that the gland on this side was already swollen, so it could be a coincidence that the earache started after I used peroxide. I also wonder if I have inadvertently spread the infection from my other ear, which was itching, to the now acheing one, which was not! Any advice would be extremely welcome.

I think the hydrogen peroxide ear treatment is very effective for bacterial infections and has helped me on a number of occassions. My ex-wife and I have both benefited from this treatment. However last week I suffered from a viral infection and the peroxide did not help much in this case.

How do you do this properly? Do you put the drops in the ear and keep the head tilted so goes deep into the ear canal? Or do you hold your head upright?

Please explain.
