If you receive offensive spam, avoid a flame response -- or any response at all. Many people believe flaming antagonizes spammers

re: Tips to help you Avoid Junk E-mail (SPAM)

Here is what i have done to completely eliminate junk email from my outlook express account.

1) I run a fictitious identity in outlook that is my main identity.

This way, when my email opens it opens to the fictitious identity.

Then, if I want to get check or send email, I just go to file and switch to my real identity, and do that.

I always keep email closed, when not using it.

That way, when I am surfing the net, only my fictitious identity is being picked up.

The very few times, over the years that I have ever received a spam email to my real identity ( like that bounce high water mark test email ) , i have not opened it... but have put that email on my blocked senders list.

It might be years before i ever get one again.

2) When i give my email address to companies, i give them a hotmail address that I use for those occasions. ( I also use it when my cable company is down )

I have set my settings to only accept email from people i have allowed.

When an email comes from them, i see it in my junk folder and check it off and click allow.

This way everything else goes to junk, and it is easy to look over the junk list to see if there is something from someone or a company i know and want to read.

I just have to check that email off and send it to my inbox, or just click to allow that email address.

All other junk can just remain in my folder, which empties after so many days.. or i can just with one click at the top have all of it checked off.. and i press delete, and it is gone.

It is helpful to do this.. as it makes it easier to see if there is any good mail in the bin, the next time out.

This way i almost never ever get junk email to my real address that i use as my email program, and if i do it is one email maybe once every few years.

Hotmail is not hard to look at as only mail i want is in my inbox

I also don't get even one telemarketer call... but that took quite a bit of doing on my part, and is too much to get into her
