BTW check your stainless steel 'silverware'. we have bought 3 sets in the last 2 years(different brands)

all made in china, that start to peel and rust around edges , sometimes hard to see unless you look close.First appears like peeling paint...yummy

Since lead is allowed to be in baby bibs by our china friendly government, we know they wont care about that either.Consumer Beware has NEVER been more revalent

I just looked in my refrigerator and everything that I have bought that comes in plastic containers does have these safe recycling codes.

And I have never bought a cup of hot coffee that came in plastic.

Is anyone finding any of these 'dangerous' plastics actually being sold? Where? What are they?

The key element of the principle is that it incites us to take anticipatory action in the absence of scientific certainty.

At the conclusion of the three-day conference, the diverse group issued a statement calling for government, corporations, communities and scientists to implement the "precautionary principle" in making decisions.

The 32 conference participants included treaty negotiators, activists, scholars and scientists from the United States, Canada and Europe...**

The idea of precaution [prior to the Bush-Cheney Administration]**... underpinned some U.S. policy, such as the requirement for environmental impact statements before major projects are launched using federal funds. But most existing laws and regulations focus on cleaning up and controlling damage rather than preventing it. The group concluded that these policies do not sufficiently protect people and the natural world...**

I want to comment on your suggestions for detox. I have done a major sauna detox program (thru the Health Med program in Sacramento) 12 years ago. What I learned is that if you do not have the right nutrition in your system, the chemicals will NOT be eliminated, literally. They will instead go right back to fat/organ/bone STORAGE. I stayed for 6 weeks. It helped quite a bit (had formaldehyde poisoning) but left me with a new symptom I did NOT have upon entering the program - hormonal problem. It is only NOW with a specific ANTI-ESTROGENIC DIET (google this term - will lead you to Ori Hofmekler's website. He is the author of, "The Anti-Estrogenic Diet", co-authored with Rick Osborn, also available at Barnes and Noble) that I feel the newer problems easing up and disappearing. The program addresses the hormone mimickers that are binding to our receptors and causing early development in young girls, breast cancer, stubborn insulin resistant fat, and rebound weight gain etc. The book sites many studies and gives guidlines for the detox. He gives lists of supplements to enhance the process. I called ("Defensed Nutrition") with concern about getting rid of the "bad estrogen", when current blood tests showed I had less hormones than someone post - menopausal. I was shocked when I was plugged right thru to the author himself. I confessed my fear of losing what little hormones I had doing his program. He informed me the truth may not be reflected by the blood tests. I told him I would be happy to sign a waiver by fax for an answer, but he did NOT hesitate to help me. I nearly burst into tears of gratitude, as I have given up hope many times. He does not mention his line of nutrtional products in his book. I FEEL YOUR SUGGESTION OF SAUNA MAY RELEASE THE XENOESTROGEN/PHYTOESTROGENS & WORSEN HEALTH!

I actually just picked up a completely stainless steel perculator. There is however another concern which has bothered me, I don't know about you, but I don't regularly see people using plastic for their coffee but STYROFOAM. I would like to know what kind of alternative there is for throw-away coffee cups. I am sure there are alot of funky things in those cups too. I serve coffee every Sunday at church and would like an alternative.
