Hmmm-years ago, I donated platelets many times over and my cholesterol was very consistently between 128-140. Dr's offlice each year has come up with 135 consistently. My free cholesterol test last year at a pharmacy read 122. I was a little shocked and thought it was wrong, as that's the lowest ever. Well I had shrugged it off and thought "well, lucky me then!" I am actually pretty overweight these days (especially after starting Synthroid for hypothyroid) although I have really always been sort of chubby.

Over the past several years, I have developed acid reflux which I thought was the result of possible food poisoning (bad fish from Walmart.) Now I wonder if my low cholesterol has played a part. I haven't really been dieting- I have always hated diet and fake foods so I don't tend to eat the "diet" versions of anything- blech! I didn't know beets were goitrogens but I know soy definitely is- of course, it's in everything.

I do have a tendency to feel fatigued and depressed- although I do my best to not show that side as I just want to be happy and enjoy life. Still, I drag myself around it seems rather often- and sometimes and a little anxious in social settings (haven't always been that way- maybe it developed?? even though I am now 41). I am also curious what may work to help me and also what kind of tests I should be asking my doctor (endocrine) for. What are your thoughts on a total blood profile to include the cholesterol as well as a very encompassing vitamin/mineral deficiency test? I do have some muscle weakness at times and also eyes are going to need bifoc's next year-eye strain. I took a "biosurvey" thing at a healthfood store a few months ago, and I had 56 out of 77 biomarkers out of range- yikes! The recommendation was coral calcium. Love to hear others' thoughts.

Reading your article and comments on low cholesterol I had one of those Aha ! moments when everything falls in place ! I have total cholesterol of 145-150 , my GP is very happy and I'm very concerned. Have a healthy diet and lifestyle , but still have some of the symtoms you mentioned for hypocholesterolemia - like memory and mood problems which I couldn't explain (until now Aha!).

Found the supplement you mentioned - seems OK, but I have a tendency to hypothyroid and the beets are goitrogens. The question is if I 'll take taurine and vitamin C from other sources,

it'll be OK? Never had any problem with my gallbladder. I know the supplement is better - has a synergistic effect - but I'm concerned for the thyroid connection.

Thank You,
