I use the Nuvaring for birth control (or rather hormone control). All birth control come with a package insert that says there is an increased risk for breast cancer with use. I have learned that it is a risk I am willing to take so that I am not sick for 1 week every month. I can't remember for sure, but I thought birth control decreases the risk of ovarian cancer by shutting down the ovaries production of hormones, but somehow it increases risk of breast cancer at the same time. Yaz is a low-dose pill, which means even though there are risks the risk is lower than with other pills. Nuvaring is an even lower dose form of bc, because it is absorbed in the vagina, less of the medicine goes systemic. Check the package insert for the information on risks with use

Re: soy: I think a similar risk versus benefit applies. I have too much estrogen, but because I still have the same fluctuation in estrogen as someone with normal estrogen, I experience the moods and hot flashes. My doctor, an open minded MD (reproductive endocrinologist) put it this way when I asked him about soy (because it is natural and I like soy milk): he said cyanide is natural but it is still poison. So for me soy is poison because of the phyto-estrogens and I already have estrogen levels way above normal

As individuals, I think we are affected differently by soy. I experience more hot flashses when I use it, so I avoid it. I have read of similar experiences. But it seems to help you, so I think it is a risk vs benefit issue that one has to decide. Soy has other documented problems besides cancer: search soy on this site

With extremem PMS+difficult periods, 2 months ago I started Dr. Mercola's Natural Krill Oil supplement, as he wrote would help PMS. Although skeptical, I tried it at double dose 1 week before my period and regular dose otherwise. Since then, my periods have been smooth. I also read of someone else having this experience by doubling dose

Best wishes
