Post have seemed to drop of here, but posting anyway. I have read a book (and it's been awhile ago) called either the "dumbing down of the Americn Kids or Children". Best book I ever read. It explains everything back to 1929. Not only do we have outside forces making us less intelligent. Chemicals, TV, parents with such busy lives, but the government has decided to go easy on our kids and make them LOOK smarter thatn they are. No child left behind, is your excuse for just pushing the kid through the system. Get the book , get active. While I am here I would reaally like to start promoting anti-flouride info in my coommunity. Pennsylvania as a law or bill that once introduced to the water system it can not be removed. I want to educate people here on that but I am not good at setting up websites. A great book to read on this subject is, "The Underground History of American Education", by John Taylor Gatto. You can read the book on his web site at www.johntaylorgatto.com. Once you read it on line you are sure to buy a copy for your library as I did.

I'm just catching up a bit on these VV's (so much to read, so little time). I may have missed it, but I didn't see any mention of Waldorf school education. The Waldorf/Rudolf Steiner method of education is the only sane way, in my opinion. There are stronger and weaker Waldorf schools, but the pedagogy is sound.

This might not even get read by anyone, but I wanted to say it anyway since there was so much talk about our poor education.

WOW..the comments on this topic are all over the place. People criticizing others' spelling and grammar doesn't elevate anyone. "Smart" doesn't mean a person can spell..or type. "Smart" is when someone has intiative to learn more than they already know. "Stupid" is when you are closed to learning. I also have a teaching background, focusing on ealry childhood and elementary ages. I saw many very bright young ones, and I wonder how they have done since I knew them. Did their public schooling dumb them down, or did they prevail because of something inside of themselves? I suggest people read a little book written by a man named Fynn...about al ittle girl he found in London. (Sorry, I can't remember her name, which is the title.)

"Brain fog" is epidemic, and it has many sources: poor nutrition, reliance on pharmaceuticals to "cure", EMF pollution, chemicals in the air, water and food. I could go on. We have fouled our nest, and what we see on the streets is the natural result. Change is needed...and now. We have been killing ourselves since the industrial revolution began.

So you think that you've got it bad in Georgia.

In New Brunswick, [that's in Atlantic Canada,] over 60% [official govt stats,] of the adult population is functionally illiterate, and from what I've seen, "over," is probably a lot closer to 70% than 60%. The strange thing is that the NB govt doesn't seem at all concerned about this.

I've casually quizzed kids in my practice, some high school grads too, and most of them can't find New Brunswick on a relief map of North America. Quite a few don't know which coast they live on, East or West, and virtually none of them could locate Mexico or Alaska within 1000 miles, and what's even more perplexing is that they're not even interested in finding out.

Standards in school continue to plummet, so everyone will pass, since it's considered 'ignorant,' to demand excellence in anything anymore, [if ever around here,] and 35% of the kids in the local high school are in special needs classes...horrors!! Fortunately, my kids were raised on the west coast.

Generations of poor parenting has come the full circle I'm afraid; nobody seems to have a clue anymore; it's parenting by bribe, accountability is unknown, so when an intelligent well informed parent does show up now and again, directing their children well, and having the appropriate responses from their children, I always make the point of congratulating them for the fine job of parenting that they are displaying.

With so few good role models I can only see things continuing to get worse.

It is also a question of COMPREHENSION. My publisher told me that my books were not publishable in America because the comprehension level of the average American is 9th grade. I have seen it again and again: you cannot break through that wall; it's an empirical barrier. There are notions that simply cannot be grasped by this people. Often times, it is also true, there is an absolute indifference. It's all been reduced to "making a living", "Jesus is my savior", and superficial amusement. This is the people that it is and we are stuck with it.

Why should Americans expect different? The pygmies of the Congo don't expect to be Michael Jordans. Americans expect so much because they believe that they are the "it of the it". So do the Taliban, and so did Hitler and so did the communists and so did Saddan Hussein. Any vile human can belive that. It is actually a country of immense privation and abandonment - and abuse.

There is no simple single "cause" for any phenomenon. Things move in a complex way. I cannot explain the American phenomenon, but

1) is it that Americans are becoming more dumb or that they were never that bright in the first place? When I checked into all the "acheivements" attributed to America or Americans, from the writing of the constitution (yes!) to airplane flight and to the moon landing of Armstrong, almost all of it was the work of Europeans. Even the blue jean and individualism - despised as ugly American inventions - came from Europe. Of course, the Europeans did not overdo it.

2) Americans are by history, a people of "believers" not of "seekers of knowledge". The belief they have in "America" and in "God" are thus fanatical. They are a very basic people, content at believing something. They are saved by beliefs. It's a predisposition.

3) Nowhere else is there such a stress on the "empirical of everyday necessities" and distractions. The government and the corporations love this. It makes Capitalism work.

Everything depends on the "nexus of survival" - the conditions; it's the people that it is, it was thus fabricated. You do not easily get out of it. It will not change. European culture and desire to know is a miracle, a turn in history, as is Indian spirituality. Now is the age of crass amusements and it suffices. It used to be Beethoven; now it's Nicole Smith. "Not to know is bliss", as Americans say. It is right for them. Those who question it are exceptions and are even hated.

I do not know what socialism has to do with it. Europe is socialist; Einstein was a socialist. It's not socialism, it's the type of people that it is. That is why one cannot compare. Europe is a pearl; India is consciousness; the Taliban is obscurantism; the Aztecs cannibals; all turns of history. People can't help it. You can't get through. The blockage is empirical.

This country is going downhill fast. The educational system, the medical industry and the FDA, the economy, the military-industrial complex, individual rights and freedoms... all these things and more are completely out of control thanks to our UN-loving, elitist screwballs in Washington.

We should fire them ALL and start over with Ron Paul as president. That's the only way to stop this rapid decline in our nation's status in the world.
