The recall includes 1,000 cases in 17 states. So far, no illnesses have been linked to the recall. Three varieties Aunt Jemima Pancake and Waffle

re: Aunt Jemima Pancake Mixes Recalled

Because many of the poor do not have a car they usually run to the corner store thus prices increases drastically. It is cheaper in the short run to actually buy that box of pancake mix; however, not in the long run. People are not always thinking if they are going to eat in a month if they only have a few dollars for today. Tomorrow will care for itself. That pancake mix has all the ingredients. Problem solved. Lets say that you will need eggs, milk, flour, (baking soda) not sure as I dont eat pancakes. Anyway if I am lucky for one dozen eggs the cost is around 2 dollars in my area . A gallon of milk is a few dollars. If they are on sale. Not sure how much baking soda is or even if you really need it for pancakes. Then you will need at least the sugar. Sugar is found in premixed pancake mix. Assuming that people add sugar to their pancake mix. None of this is organic of course as that would cost more. My point is that most poor live from hand to mouth. I am not trying to stereotype here. I was raised dirt poor in the inner city of Chicago. I know the feeling of just eating to survive that day and the choices that my mother made on a daily bases. Of course now that I know better I make better choices in the food that I purchase and prepare. I eat very little meat, plenty of fresh organic vegies and fruits, no processed foods, no sugar etc not to mention the organic soaps, lotions, washing powder, cleaners I use. Wow it does get expensive. Anyway I got off the point I am trying to make here. It may be easier for that mom to simply take her 3 dollars and buy the pancake mix because she does not have several more dollars to buy all the ingredients she need. Of course there are other things we could consider but the discussion here is about pancakes. Then again I use to know a lady years ago that practically raised her children on pancakes which were only made from sink water and white flour. :( I guess it just depends on how poor you are.

It is good to take at the first sign to absorb toxins. It is in my top three most important things

to have in my first aid kit.

ARSENICUM

No. 1 homeopathic medicine for food poisoning, especially after meat, when there is vomiting and diarrhoea.

Those who need Arsenicum feel physically very weak, but they are so anxious they can’t help but be restless. They are nervous at the thought of being left alone and when feeling at their worst actually feel they are going to die. Symptoms are often most severe from midnight - 3am.

PULSATILLA

Is helpful after eating bad fish. It’s also good for upsets brought on by too much ice cream.

LYCOPODIUM

Is better suited to poisoning from shellfish.

CHINA

No. 1 homeopathic medicine to promote recovery after dehydration.

Often even after diarrhoea and vomiting has stopped a terrible feeling of weakness remains, due to the effects of dehydration. China can be extremely helpful in these circumstances.

NUX VOMICA

For those times when the food and wine were great, but you just had way too much of one or other or both! This is a fantastic hangover cure, especially suited to those who are literally like bears with sore heads the morning after. If it works well for you, don’t let that be an excuse to go out and abuse your poor body all over again … in the end you will have to pay for it!

In Homeopathy there are only two golden rules for successful prescribing

1. Match the symptoms carefully to the best homeopathic medicine you can find.

2. Take one pill. If you feel better there is no need to repeat unless the same symptoms return.

Wishing you well

Having 12 strains of friendly flora is the best defense against potential food poisoning if you don't prepare all of your own food.

What many people don't realize is that stress, toxins in our environment, being on antibiotics etc, have decimated our natural immune defense system in the gut. I would recommend eating locally grown (organic if possible) unprocessed food as often as possible.

Unfortunately Agri-business in not in the business of making food...they are in the business of making money by selling what I call the apparency of food. Only by continuing to educate ourselves, friends and family will we get back to basics and stop polluting ourselves and the environment...

Dr Dave

re: Aunt Jemima Pancake Mixes Recalled

I joined this site to get the proper information on eating healthy. I am one of the many who in August of 2007 got Salmonella from Banquet pot pies. My Drs. not knowing what was wrong sent me for stool and blood work. My potassium was soo low I was called at home and told to get to the hospital immediately for an iv of potassium, then more blood work , then oral potassium....I was scheduled for a colonoscopy 3 days later to find out I had acute colitis. When I returned to the Dr. for my follow up after the weekend that's when I found out I also had Salmonella. It is now March and I still am suffering from colitis going in and out of remission. I never had colitis prior to the Salmonella yet am told the Salmonella did not in any way cause the colitis. I still do not believe that info. I was seeing a gastreo regularily for years for acid reflux and had never been diagnosed with that before. I was one sick puppy. Thought I had the flew and didn't go to a dr until Monday when the symptoms started on saturday. I know longer eat store bought meats. I only buy fresh meats from animals bred and raised with no chemicals etc...Not easy to find in our state. I think that the FDA and the government need to step in and put a stop to all these companys that have been spreading Salmonella and who knows what else that is killing us, because they are not following proper rules and regulations, and stop giving all these chemicals to the animals and spraying chemicals in the pastures and clean up our water system. It is long over due that something be done to protect us and our future generations. Just my two sense.

re: Aunt Jemima Pancake Mixes Recalled

I never understood the appeal of products like this anyway, since the "convenience" is only perceived.
