This was an interesting article to me because I drove a school bus for over 10years. About 3 years ago a friend came to visit and she had an ionic foot bath machine, she gave me a treatment and afterwards I saw little black dots floating in the water. She had not seen that before so I caught one on my finger and smelled of it. Can you guess what it was?, It smelled like diesel fuel. So, yes, I do believe that just smelling pollutants can enter the body. Its no wonder that any of us are in our "right" mind.

Those serving /with pride and honor/ are also guinea pigs, based on the comments I heard from physicians and researchers at a Scientific Assembly in Bethesda, Maryland, (during the early 90's). Those going to Iraq were being forced to be injected with untested 'vaccines'. That is, be guinea pigs!

A physician recommended telling the men and women that they should not have enlisted.

Brenda, Certainly wildlife, alike domestic pets and people, are harmed by storms, including hurricanes. They always have been. But, the human pollution factor is a major factor in the demise of birds.

At a scientific assembly brought together by the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic during the 1980-90's, a wildlife biologist spoke of birds flying the migratory routes would touch down on what the birds thought was water. Turned out this /water/ was oil field waste which was in holding ponds, and the birds would drown into oilfield wastes.

In Louisiana, and I presume it was/is the same in Texas, at night and on weekends during the 80's, the oil companies would release this waste from their holding ponds into drainage ditches that went to the crawfish ponds. At a public hearing I attended, we were told that the crawfish (crayfish) were dying at the ponds, and those that don't die, people sell or eat. Touring the area where this took place in south Louisiana, I was impressed by the human children whose families served /food/ from those crawfish ponds. In humans, this is called a developmental disorder or birth defect.

A lot of chemicals made from fossil fuels cause cancer, immune disorders, spontaneous abortions, and birth defects. We can do better with clean, sustainable fuels like wind and solar. Those costs to our health, our children's health, wildlife, and our environment is too great to continue to support petrochemicals.

We moved to Louisiana because of the oil industry, in which my husband was an exploration geologist before prematurely retired.

I have always had trouble with diesel fuel, which is why I don't stand at public bus shelters in Chicago. I have actually passed out in the past. Taking XanGo juice and eating organic vegan, especially some raw organic vegan has helped over the years. I ate raw organic vegan for 7 years. Now I eat about 50-60% raw. I ride the paratransit and I used to wear a mask that made me look like a frog. I left it (it fell off my wheelchair) in a paratransit van and it was never returned to me. I wear a dust mask sometimes when I am riding behind diesel-fueled vehicles, or someone is smoking as I try to enter or exit vehicles or buildings, but it is not effective. I am sharing your article with all the doubting Thomases and those who already have bipolar and Attention Deficit problems, and the family members of those who have Alzheimer's. I wish they would sign up so I don't have to forward your emails, but what can I say. I need to share it with the regional Transit Authority who don't yet realize why so many with respiratory allergies cannot ride the CTA buses. Keep up the good work. I saw you at heath Expo in Scaaumburg in 2007. What happened this year--I did not receive a notice about it? I hope to see you at 2008 Earth Day celebration in Chicago at McCormick Place. And maybe have more people to attend who missed it last year. They asked me to keep them posted.

When I was researching what chemicals are used in mosquito insecticides, I learned that alike DDT, dangerous organophosphate insecticides, and even insecticides like permethrin often suggest that diesel be used as a vehicle to move the insecticide to the target organism. These vehicles may be part of the reason that the birds are disappearing at an alarming rate, just as they did when DDT was marketed.

Where I live in south Louisiana, I've only seen a handful of birds this year, and they are mostly of the same species --mocking birds. There are very few blue jays, and I've only seen a single male cardinal.

Between their habitat being destroyed by fear mongers, and their immune systems being destroyed by insecticides, silent spring may well take place next year. The toxic gases get them where they hide.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is finalizing a policy to allow promotional marketing on pesticide labels now exclusively dedicated to safety and proper usage information, according to documents posted today by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility.

According to scores of comments filed by state agencies, public health officials and consumer groups, EPA’s proposed approval of third-party endorsements and charitable tie-ins on pesticide safety labels will distract consumers from important directions and cautions. EPA itself, as part of its National Poison Prevention Week (March 16-22) web outreach, notes that –

“Every 13 seconds, U.S. Poison Control Centers receive a call about someone being exposed to a poison …over 77,000 calls made to poison centers with concerns about exposure to common household pesticides”

We are now paying $4.17/gallon for diesel for our VW golf..truckers in New England will probably be using off road/red diesel before long...maybe we will be too....cheaper to produce, less additives and better milage and we pay more. Ridiculous

These newsletters constantly comment on the dangers in our immediate environment and I welcome the knowledge. But at what point do we have to look at these environmental factors (specifically the ones we have no control over) and say 'screw it' and eat right and exercise and do what we can? These articles just cause more paranoia, distress and stress for the normal consumer who is out in the world trying to make a living. Dr. Mercola, what IS good for us???

Seriously, if you can't do anything about it, why worry? Are you going to walk around with a mask on? Diesel trucks aren't going anywhere. What is the point of this article, We are all doomed?

I am tired of these scare articles, I have enough to worry about. I can't control the world.

It was my understanding that diesel engines also gave off formaldehyde! Even without particulates this is serious. Does this mean that, if you are killed by the fumes you are already embalmed?

The necessity of listening to country music 24/7

Development of a distinct southern drawl

Desire to be on the road at all times

Strange habits, such as addressing all women as "hon," "darlin," "you shore are a purdy lil thang," and the like

Opening conversations with strangers in diners with "Whatchya haulin?"

Believing in God

Believing in America

Imagine working in an office at UCLA for approx 20 yrs breathing diesel fumes sucked into our office from the air vent over the loading dock and having to argue with Environmental Health about the dangers of these fumes (by the way the top Diesel fume/air quality PhD. is just down the hall from our office). Finally after submitting this man's papers to the management, the threat was taken seriously. The fumes still come in, but much less. I guess I and all my coworkers who have worked there for so long are screwed. It is remarkable how much more important money is that human lives - even in a hospital. Thank you for this article which will be added to my documentation files.
