oh my, I can't believe the OP is that obtuse. Your child can carry the virus then, it could gain a new strength, mutate, evolve in our society... how naive can you be? Ridiculous. If everyone thought like you, the human race would die out eventually. Voluntary vaccines are one thing, the nasty illnesses for which vaccines are required for schooling are another ball game. If you don't want to play by the rules of safety, your child SHOULD be excluded and not be able to join anything! Shame on you.

Hi all. I have to agree with the majority of you on this issue. I believe we aren't helping our children with these vaccinations. I unfortunately, lost my youngest daughter due to encephalitis caused by the first set of vaccinations. The health department only informed me to watch for a fever, they never said anything about constant screaming for 2 days or the lack of an appetite or the inability to be consoled. The doctors tried to cover it up by saying she passed away from SIDS. My family physician proved them wrong. It took him 2 years of courtroom drama, but he did it. I think we are overloading our childrens immune systems with all these vaccines at once. Why can't they readjust the immunization schedule like what they said in the above article? Why must they just want more money and have no concern for those of us who lose our loved ones because of these or for those who have to live with the affects of these medications that they don't want to admit can be dangerous. Why can't they face up to the truth about what these immunizations can actually be capable of doing? Thank you all for letting me vent my feelings and emotions on this subject!

We have three new babies in our family, 21 month, 9 weeks and the newest, 4 days!!!

I went to the pediatricians appt. with my daughter and her 21 mo. old and then 8 week old baby.

The 8weeks old, 10.6lb infanct was scheduled to get SIX injections that day. THANK GOD my

daughter said NO. Both children got their check-ups and NO immunizations.

This makes me so angry. I have a cousin with autism and i KNOW vaccines are the cause. It's even worse that the mother won't stop taking him to McDonalds, or feeding him processed junk. Even worse, she's a nurse!!!!!

Big government is to blame...

Information about the effects of vaccines can be found by doctors etc. that have no money to gain. If you research it on the internet, you'll find many reasons to believe vaccines do more good than bad. The Amish are very low in one type of autism, but in other types of autism and learning disabilities they are the same as the general public. This is true for Amish that get vaccinated as well as Amish that don't get vaccinated.

I have a 10 month old son, who has had all his vaccinations so far. He has his MMR coming up at his 12 month check-up and I have just lately really educated myself about vaccinations. I do NOT want him to have the MMR vaccine, and I am seriously considering stopping all of the rest of the vaccines except for the Salk polio vaccine (the dead virus cultured in human cells) and the pertussis, diphtheria and tetanus. He's already had some shots of for each of these but I want to follow Dr. Donald Millers advice and get the rest of the shots AFTER he is 2 years old and get the shots in single doses spaced out by 6 months. My concern is Illinois does not have a philosophical exemption for vaccines and I don't know how to avoid these. He is seeing a pediatrician who is pro-vaccine. My religion (evangelical Christian) does not have a legitimate reason for non-vaccination, so I can't use the religious exemption. I am really worried about all these vaccines and need to know how I can avoid them legally in the state of Illinois. Will he be able to go to school when he is school age? Fortunately, I don't have to worry about daycare at the moment. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

I know this is a little late

Did anybody watch Larry king last night? It was about Autism and the possible link to vaccinations. Jenny McArthy was on the show along with her doctor. There were also 2 docs from the American Academy of Pediatrics. Let me tell you - it was AWESOME to watch Jenny McArthy dispute everything they said! She chewed 'em up and spit 'em out! I don't know if there's video on U-tube, but it's DEFINITELY worth the watch!

Generally speaking, I'm not a big believer in vaccines for anyone of any age. They do more harm than good. The chance of dying of these diseases is now much lower than years/centuries past regardless of whether one is vaccinated or not, due to better sanitation and diet. Chickenpox is usually just a childhood nuisance that doesn't need a vaccine. Having a bout of these illnesses may actually strengthen the immune system. Vaccine manufacturing companies push for more childhood vaccines to increase their profits. That being said, at least keep childhood vaccines to a minimum and spaced apart.

The autism issue may be controversial, but today in class I learned that vaccines can cause Guillian Barre syndrome. When the doctor wanted to vaccinate my son, I don't recall her mentioning that as a possible complication. Of course she didn't mention any possible complication/side effects except for a slight fever. So, when a parent consents to having their child vaccinated it isn't a truely informed consent...I am so glad we found out about vaccines.

I wish I knew all that I know now, I would've liked to follow the schedule of vaccines Dr. Miller proposes. That makes more sense. I just knew I didn't want my babies to be at risk of all those potentially harmful illnesses! (good intentions, bad information) It doesn't appear that my children had any adverse effects, but I'll never know what could have been different in their overall health. I believe nursing them exclusively (no formula) and for a long time helped. Anyway, they are 5 & 7 and will not receive any more vaccines. I know it will be a pain, but worth it. I *am* worried about the chicken pox vaccine wearing off and them getting severely sick with it as an adult (I know it can be deadly to adults). Is there anything to do about that besides getting booster shots? And general healthy living (which I cannot enforce once they are grown up)? And here I thought the shots would HELP, by avoiding the unwanted later side effect of actually getting chicken pox... Shingles (ugh!). Probably find the shot also can cause shingles... It all makes me so angry!

Sadly, there are people in the local media right now, some religious group, that is being raked over the coals for not having their kids medically treated. I have to agree it seems wrong to not take them to the doctor the get antibiotics to cure infections (pneumonia, or ? can't remember) that they ended up dying from, that could have been cured. But the media is also using this situation to say evil things like "it is a SIN not to want health care for your kids"... INCLUDING VACCINES. (yes, I read that in a newspaper and it did mention how bad it was to NOT vaccinate) As if NOT getting vaccines is what killed these babies and children. And what they call "health care" we know is usually far from it! Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater, pardon the expression!

Good point in the article concern/ing "evidence based" medicine. It burns me to have these folks say that their remedies are "proven". I wonder if Vioyx was "proven", yet killed over 50,000. At least with a nautral remedy the worse it can do is not work, not end up killing thousands.

The immune system of young children (under two) is inadequate to respond fully to the vaccination. When pointed out, the M.D.s responded by setting up a vaccine schedule to duplicate all vaccines when the child gets a bit older.

A baby with a stay at home Mom is quite safe and will get no benefit from vaccination until they are nearly school age (which used to be 5 years old). Even then, of course, it should still be family's choice first.

We are losing our rights as parents to make good, common sense decisions based on our knowledge of our children and our health and safety values. Once those rights are gone (and they are getting more and more blurred every year) we won't get them back. I know there are the waivers for Medical reasons and the waivers for Religious reasons and some states have the waivers for Philosophical reasons not to immunize, but not all do and that is the waiver that should be available in ALL 50 STATES. The strong media campaign for the HPV vaccine tells me that these vaccines are not about health and safety issues, but about PROFIT and CONTROL. We the people should control our government, not the other way around.

I worked as a County Health/Public Health RN for awhile and we had monthly immunization clinics throughout the County. We even went out to the schools when the Hep B series became mandatory for students entering Junior High to catch up all the kids who didn't get the series when they were babies/toddlers because it wasn't available then. The paper work was sent home in advance for the parents to read, sign and send in their payment. The shots were given during the school day so it wouldn't inconvenience the parents and it would save everyone lots of time and money in the long run. Now that I think of it, our school had the public health nurses come in and vaccinate us (for the ? measles) in the late 60's-early 70's with a "gun". I can remember all of us kids lined up in the gym waiting our turn with one nurse to check off our name, one nurse to prep the arm with alcohol, one nurse to give the shot with that gun-like thing and one nurse to put on the bandage.

As I have gotten older ( hopefully wiser) I now feel that all of this mandatory stuff is not in the best interest of our children and we need to go back to the days of "Daddy/Mommy knows best" and is the party responsible for making decisions about their children-not the Democrats, Republicans, etc.
