According to the messages, a 2007 study in The British Journal of Cancer found an increased risk of breast cancer among postmenopausal women who ate large amounts of grapefruit

re: The Truth About Grapefruit and Breast Cancer

I don't see anything about the compounding effect of grapefruit on dozens of drugs, including estrogen-replacement drugs. It has been reported numerous times, and pharmacists confirm, that grapefruit can increase the potency of several prescriptions, including SSRIs, ERTs, etc. Estrogen levels are linked to higher cancer rates in women.

But that is when someone is ON Rx drugs. This is why it is wise, unless for crisis management, to avoid drugs and keep on natural, pure, organic whole foods.

Grapefruit is a great treat, and it seems therapeutic as it tastes a little like quinine (good for malaria). But, it is citrus, and citrus fruits mess with insulin levels rapidly. Further, any food eaten every day for a long period can create allergies.

The last thing about the recommendations for breast cancer prevention that should top the list since it is nutritional and completely manageable is to have iodine saturation. US citizens are notoriously known for low iodine levels and underfunction thyroids. Dr. Guy Abraham et al are pioneering highly significant research into iodine sufficiency and deficiency that simply cannot be ignored. The problem is exacerbated by the FDA's super low RDA of 3mcg. The evidence shows, judging by Japanese coastal women who have not only the lowest incidence but the lowest risk of cervical, breast and uterine cancer of any industrialized nation in the world, that 14mg is needed, and that is after the system is saturated. It may take quite a while to saturate since we are depleted and don't get any significant natural sources of iodine in our diet. Iodized salt is the wrong kind of iodine, and so it the salt.

For thyroid health, T-3 and T-4 production, cellular function, etc., iodine is mandatory as the largest natural element in the human body. But, chlorine, fluorine, and bromine in our water and bread block iodine receptor sites. Therefore, be wary of your water and bleached flour intake. Keep it clean and pure!

My question is in regard to the Nutritional Typing Dr. Mercola mentioned. I looked at the online sample to see if I wanted to purchase the test. I was disappointed. The questions on the sample asked what you consider to be a typical breakfast or lunch, etc. That would assume that people naturally gravitate toward what they need to be eating. Then, why would you need the test?? Seems to me, anyone could take a look at what they find satisfying to eat and figure out their nutrional type that way.....there has to be more to this than that. Anyone have any experience with nutritional typing?

However, she had a coughing problem. Others in the family tried to tell her to stop eating the grapefruit as we all thought it was causing a post nasal drip; contributing to her cough. It put a terrible strain on her heart...and I am sure that this led to her death. When she started coughing...she couldn't stop and this went on for years, but she would not give up her grapefruit.

I eat at least 2 lbs of fruit daily...and feel great, but I avoid dates, raisins, berries (with seeds), and citrus (except for lemon). Everybody has specific fruits...and the wrong fruits can cause problems.

It would be wonderful, if Dr. Mercola could find information on Cyto-Toxic Testing. It is the hope for the future!

Each time I eat a grapefruit, or drink grapefruit juice, my teeth are extremely sensitive afterwards and it takes a few days until they go back to normal. BTW, the same happens if I drink wine. Orange or other similar fruits do NOT have this effect on my tooth enamel though so I eat them all the time. For some reason it is the grapefruit only. Anyone else has this problem? If so, any suggestions? I would love to eat a grapefruit once in a while... (not much of a wine drinker so that's ok)

Cellular biologists like Dr. Bruce Lipton, and many other scientists tell us that cell membranes, and their receptors, are made up of fats, proteins, and sugars. Now, if the body is literally a community of trillions of cells (and bacteria), and the outer layer of those trillions of cells are partly made of sugars, why would eating healthy fruit sugars not be good for us? What are our cells supposed to build themselves with if we don't supply them with those required healthy sugars? Isn't this why supplementing with glyconutrients and saccharides has been so successful for multitudes of people? Are these sugars not the same kind of sugars? Are "fruit sugars" not the same as glyconutrients and saccharides? Maybe healthy sugars need to be combined with other nutrients in order to be properly and optimally utilized by the body/cells?

I understand the whole insulin thing as I've been an avid reader of this site for quite some time, but I'm obviously missing something... or Mercola is... or we all are. Can anybody help me out here?

However, Nutritional Typing aside, it should be a matter of common sense to know that any whole real food is infinitely preferable to any Soilent Green manufactured Foodah.

The first clue (other than common sense) that the first "study" was bogus was its characterization of half a grapefruit every other day as "large amounts" -- as opposed to what, licking the zest once a week?
