Also, completing tasks before bed - even if you have to stay up a bit later, gives my brain peace of mind, so I don't have to 'sleep on it'. Checklists, and not procrastinating help. Time to unwind and sort out how the next day will play out helps get to sleep quicker.

I always feel sorry for those that are bundled in layers and then into a snow suit and then stuffed in that car seat with the car heater on high .Ive always dressed them according to how I felt comfortable and never had a problem with a baby not sleeping through the night. I never could sleep good when its too warm in a bedroom. My mother who is in her 60s sleeps in a bedroom with no heat on at all in the winter. She says she gets the best sleep she's ever had that way.

Although you will be pretty exhausted getting used to a new baby don't assume you will become depressed. This used to happen to me too but the tiredness is different to nornal everyday lack of sleep tiredness. When i was pregnant my worry was the 2am and 6am feeds. Once I wake up I won't go back to sleep for love or money so i envisioned a lot of problems. Yes I was tired and yes I had tiredness problems but it becomes a way of life for a little while. Within 2/3/ weeks I could sleep on a bed of nails. The only thing that could wake me was my baby. She is now 3 yrs and I am now back to square one and if a neighbours dog barks, I will wake up and not go back to sleep. Best wishes with your prospective arrival. I hope it brings you all the joys you hope for

Our founder, Paramahansa Yogananda, says this about sleep:

"Though most persons are unaware of the scientific way to reverse the flow of consciousness back toward Spirit, unconsciously they accomplish this to a limited degree each night in sleep, when the life force in the body withdraws from the muscles and senses in the deep dreamless state and the consciousness is transported from the material realm to the land where the soul feels the ever calm Spirit. One realizes he is made in the peaceful, joyous image of God after reversing the outward flow of consciousness from the body to the soul. Yogis can do that at will; and Jesus Christ was one of the greatest yogis who ever lived, demonstrating his God-union and mastery of the principles of life and consciousness." - p974, The Second Coming of Christ (Yoganandaji defines a yogi as one who is striving to attain union with God - "yoke" and "union" are indo-european words related to the Sanskrit word "yoga").

Incidentally, I have rather strong left-wing tendencies - persons with spiritual inclinations are not necessarily from the fanatical right.

I just...SLEEP...which is usually between the hours of midnight and 7AM. Nothing hardly ever wakes me up...because I know this I make sure the house is secure, alarm on before winding down at about 11PM.

Also I have been a skinny man all my life and I can pack some major food at night, sometimes right before I sleep...I am yet to see any close signs on even remotely getting fat.

I've never been able to juggle everything I want to do in a day. Meditation, reading, exercise, sleep, sport, a talk with a friend, care and training of the animals and children...something always gets the short change. Maybe France is the answer, maybe village life, or tribal life, maybe we should give up give up the work and really get something done. The only person I know who has any balance is my house painter, who elects to work only 4 hours a day, has no children, and is in foreclosure. She lives modestly, has a million friends, will not marry. Maybe she's not made to be a homeowner, but she's made her sacrifices and she sleeps and is immoderately happy.
