Nalgene is polycarbonate plastic (epoxy of bisphenol A). Don't use this hormone disrupting chemical product, which will leach BPA into your beverages.

I use glass bottles, or stainless steel (containers) to carry my water. Glass is totally inert, and stainless steel is better than many alternatives.

A glass thermos is good!

The Environmental Working Group has an excellent report of bottled water companies, including who tests and how often does testing take place. The law does not require that testing data be made available to the public and most bottled water companies do NOT make data available. www.ewg.org/.../bottledwater-scorecard Even my own preferable bottled water company, which I've been using for 20 years, received a poor score from EWG and I've been consuming water in glass (no BPA) . Find your brand. This has been mine.

With more than double the herbicide spraying from Herbicide Tolerant GE crops, and new Fungus producing trees coming onto the market, meaning more double the fungicide treatment, as well as other permitted chemical being sprayed, or dumped in leaking landfills and down the drain, ALL WATER will be contaminated. I'm now searching out Reverse Osmosis with a Carbon Block.

Guess we'll need to supplement our mineral content with multi-mineral supplements and hope we'll be receiving enough to make up what we lose by purifying our water. But, remember, plants and animals also take up herbicide/pesticide contaminated water, which we'll get by eating those crops or animals.

We MUST work together to stop GE crops!

My raw milk comes in plastic bottles, but at least its recycle number is 2, which is the best, according to a past vital voter's info. I've been reusing them to store my purified water in, but am wondering if I should keep their reuse to only once or twice.

My mother was injected with DES when she was pregnant in 1959 with my sister, to prevent miscarriage, which she'd suffered 2 years prior.

When pregnant, my sister's child was sitting too high up in the womb, causing the baby's head to jam up under her ribs. He was born with a slightly mis-shapen scull due to the position he developed in. He had to have plastic surgery and it's affected his brain function. I suspect my sister's womb was not a normal shape from being affected by DES. I've read it can cause the womb to be a triangle shape. I'm glad she didn't have anymore children.

That aside, just a point to make. Pyrex cannot be recycled, therefore I believe it contains some kind of substance that is not good for the environment or people. I have not researched this, perhaps someone out

there knows more?

Has anyone got any information about the white/composite fillings? I have a few sealants from when I was a child, and a white filling, though I don't think it's a big one; definitely not a root canal!. I opted for the white/composite material as I know the mercury amalgam ones are so toxic [also have Aspergers so not keen on adding any unnecessary mercury to my body thank you!], but now I'm having doubts that even they are safe in any way!! I understand they contain aluminium, but what else do they have? Do they all contain BPA? And more importantly, what other options are there for fillings, should I ever want them replaced with something safer?

So, I'm really supposed to feed my 18 month old out of a glass container?! I have been reusing my raw butter container to feed her out of. She is independent and enjoys feeding herself, but at her age she occasionally drops her "bowl" on the tile floor. If it were glass, it would break! She nursed until 13 months old, no need for bottles. I could only find plastic sippy cups for the longest time. Then lo and behold, while shopping at Target one day, I wandered into the thermos isle and came across an insulated stainless steel sippy cup!!! It was pricey, but it wasn't plastic or BREAKABLE!!! Yeah!!! Too bad it wasn't in the baby section where more parents could see it. I've told everyone about them. It is made by Thermos and is called Foogo or Foogoo, not sure.

I avoid plastic containers as much as possible, but when you have a baby/toddler give me a break!(No, not literally!) I have had her break glass in the past, that is why I am so leary. I use my best judgement, after all she is so special to me.

Also, to touch on the DES subject. While I was pregnant with her I worked in a veterinary hospital. The Dr routinely prescribed DES for dogs. I was the receptionist/pharmacist, so I came in contact with lots of meds. I sure wish I knew all the things I know now back then! I used gloves as much as possible, but not always (not a requirement).

You asked about the white composite used in fillings...just recently learned from a dentist that it contains arsenic...and it probably contains other unnecessary toxic metals..

I didn't know that the base of the porcelain crowns that I had done...contained nickel and mercury .

I had a Hair Analysis done...and discovered that I had high amounts of arsenic, antimony, etc.

So, the only way to handle this...get out the teeth. Otherwise I was setting myself up for major health problems in the future. I also didn't know about the dangerous bacteria which are created under teeth that have had root canals done on them.

Another good re-usable, non-toxic water bottle choice is Sigg. I recently purchased these for our family to cut down on bottle consumption and exposure to plastics/metals. Besides online, you can sometimes find them at camping/outdoor stores or even Whole Foods. they come in many fun designs and styles (using non-toxic food-grade paint). My kids think they are cool-looking and are proud to use them, and I like limiting their exposure to plastics.

A while back on this site or another health site there was a discussion brewing on the safety of colored glass, both for freezing and cooking. I contacted one of the glass makers, Pyrex, I think - with no response. Does anyone have any input on that subject?

Line plastic dishes with wax paper, freeze the food, then take out wrap it totally in waxpaper then place in freezer bags?That way you can ensure uniform shapes and portions. Mason canning jars & glas container are ok, but add a heck a lot of weight to shelves. That is what I started doing, as we have been weened off non plastics for decades.

In all this hoopla about water in plastic bottles in the MSM, how come no one talks about the massive& thick soda and juice bottles that have been filling our landfills for decades? Could it be the fluoride lobby fighting back, not enough of us being 'dumbered' down fast enough?

Now I'm really confused. I had been told that the weak lower-numbered plastics leached into water and avoid them. I use Nikken PiMag (tap-filtered) water for its added healing minerals and was told to use number 6 or higher plastic; 5 was OK. I chill it in a quart-size glass container, but carrying a small glass container in my purse doesn't work.

Wow...very intersting. I had no clue - this is good to know. I will make sure my wife also reads this so we can eliminate anything sythetic [estrogen] from the house. I cannot believe we live like this - I cannot believe everything that is unsafe for us has become "mainstream". That is just unbelievable. Now if we dont look out for ourselves, apparent the FDA and other gov't agencies, and manufaturers aren't will continue to fill our bodies and our household with junk that will make us even more unhealthy.
