"Rare isolated events" is an easy term to use by the medical community and appears acceptable . . . unless you are one of the many "events". Anybody that believes a word of what the pharmaceutical companies are saying needs to educate themselves on this subject. Your Doctor who recommends the shots is not the best source of information This mitochrondrial dysfunction is most certainly a result of the vaccinations. By the time a child is 3 years old and they have undergone the vaccinations recomended by the American Pediatric Association, they will have had over thirty different toxins injected into their body. Its a testament to the integrity of their immune system that they survive this assault. There have never been any double blind studies done on vacinations. You are just supposed to take the Doctors advice and be a good little sheeple and fill the little ones you love the most with God knows what or where it came from, or what it is going to do to them. My oldest is 25 and she and her other siblings never received one vaccination. They are extremely healthy, happy individuals. I had many strange trips laid on me by Doctors because I did not believe in vaccinations. I thank my philosophy instructor, Dr. Carl Cleveland, of Cleveland Chiropratic College for putting vaccinations in their proper context. Avoid the toxins!!

There is less said, but people with small children and expecting should be made aware of the onset of Type I diabetes in very young children from vaccinations. Studies in countries that initiate mandatory vaccinations show an incredible increase in Type I diabetes in small children. The introduction of a live virus (as with MMR vaccination) may be causing an auto-immune reaction to insulin, resulting in type I diabetes. A friend with a 2 yr old just experienced this with his child. I would appreciate any information anyone may have. ann stafford

Why is there little or no discussion about your immune system when it comes to the problem of autism? High levels of fungal overgrowth, low levels of beneficial bacteria cause by antibiotics and poor diet coupled with all of the other factors, EMF's, immunization shots etc. all combine to create the perfect storm we have today.

Mom's diet is the first line of defense. Breast feeding the second, low or no immunizations the third, don't give children fever reducing medication unless it is to save their life, feed them natural foods in their near natural state and make sure they continue to get plenty of good bacteria to aid in digestion are all sensible ideas. Then just hope for the best.

Stop looking for the magic bullet as the "cause" because it doesn't exist. Look for the forest not the tree. Just my opinion.....

Dr Mercola, are we going back to the 70's here? Quoting people talking about parent's emotional state causing autism reminds me of when autism was known as the 'Cold Mothering Syndrome'. I was so hoping we were beyond all that. I have an autistic child who was born that way (he hasn't been vaccinated and showed signs as an infant). His twin sister is 'normal' and they were treated the same as babies. It is such a painful thing for someone to suggest that it is my fault that he is autistic because perhaps I wasn't positive enough while I was pregnant!! Would anyone suggest that about Down Syndrome, Mental Retardation, or other physical disorders? Please let's not go backwards when discussing this syndrome.

I am so glad that people are talking more about vaccinations. Even though they didn't trigger my son's autism, I still believe major changes have to be made.

There is much we are not being told about this disorder. Is there any involvement as to the causes, with power lines, cordless, and cell phones, in general EMFs (Electro Magnetic Fields). We do know that these vaccines have a very big part to play, but what about the rest of the modern world? No stone should be left unturned.

Most people with autism do NOT have relatives on the spectrum. the statistics indicate that when that does occur, it is more common for folks with Aspergers syndrome to have relatives on the spectrum. Those with classic autism or other variants seldom have relatives on the spectrum. Genetics accounts for a small part of it, but whoever heard of a genetic epidemic?? While many with Aspergers may have been missed in previous surveys prior to the mid-90s, the vast majority of those with autism are much more deeply affected, and there is no why that someone with classic autism could be missed.

My own son, age 13, was diagnosed 10 and a half years ago, and while he has improved a great deal as a result of many therapies, both conventional and alternative, and we have spent our life savings twice over paying for them all -- and, he remains profoundly impaired. He has mostly eliminated his behaviour outbursts, tantrums, OCD, aggression, impulsivity, violence, anxiety, and many other issues, but he remains very cognitively delayed and socially impaired as well. He's in 7th grade, but works at a grade 3 level. He still has no friends and has serious communication delays as well. To suggest these kids don't need "fixing" is ludicrous. It may be alright for someone such as DizzyIzzy1 who has a full-time job, education, partner, etc., but he is definitely part of a small minority of those on the spectrum.

DizzyIzzy1 - While it is true that genetics is a factor and that many people with high functioning autism or Aspergers didn't used to get a diagnosis, this does not account for the majority. In fact, statistics from the Autism Research Institute indicate that the vast majority of children diagnosed in the past two decades are cases of regressive autism, wherein symptoms appear in the scond year of life, after the major vaccinations are given. Those individuals born with symptoms (i.e., no eye contact, arching their back when being held, aversive to touch, etc.) have not risen in numbers but have remained constant. This leads to the conclusion that vaccines and/or other environmental factors are to blame.

While individuals such as yourself may not need treatment and can function very well in this world, this is simply not the case for the vast majority on theautism spectrum. My own son is 13, was diagnosed at age 2 and a half, and has made significant gains through the past 10 years of therapies, a combination of many conventional and alternative interventions. While he has lost most of his anxiety, OCD, extreme temper tantrums, violence and aggression, he is cognitively very delayed (in 7th grade but works at third grade level in most subjects), and has many social deficits, including the inability to make friends. I should add that there is no one in our families who is on the spectrum. After enormous efforts, spending our life savings at least twice over, and after thousands of hours of numerous therapies, we still have no idea if he will ever be able to live independently. His case is very typical. You are speaking for a small minority.

It is critical that parents know the facts on vaccinations prior to vaccinating. Parents should be allowed all Information as to the dangers of vaccinations as well as the benefits. However, the vaccination schedule does not allow enough time for this research to be conducted by parents and should be priovided by your healthcare practitioner. However, it's not and this is an injustice to us all.

The retroviruses that are being created are getting stronger and stronger. The more you vaccinate, there is a greater chance that you, your children and your pets will weaken the very gift god gave us all - "a functional immune system".

I am 39 years old with severe digestive disorders (nearly all my life). The doctors say it's pernicious anemia (damaged parietal cells) or celiac sprue disease (both symptoms). I say poo-poo on them. I received all vaccinations available to children back in the 1970's. I am convinced now, after doing considerable research myself on these two diseases and the available science practices and research back in the 40's-60's, that my digestive disorder was caused by a mycoplasma in the vaccinations I received.

Let's not forget the mercury that is passed through the placenta to the baby from mommys silver amalgam fillings. My nephew has asbergers and never had a shot, but mommy and daddy has alot of amalgam in their mouth. There have been 2 studies one done on pregant sheep and one on monkeys that show how the mercury goes straight to the baby through the placenta. There actually has been a small study that shows that mercury decreased the ability of macrophages (a type of white blood cell) to kill yeast. Mercury can disrupt cellular binding to the receptor sites located on the all cells. Antibiotics actually can make a yeast problem worse. They can also increase mercury absorptions.
