This evening, my son cut his knee on a nail that was sticking out of a neighbor’s fence. It left a cut that was 5/8ths of an inch wide. It is showing the subcutaneous (fatty tissue) layer underneath. I called a pediatric nurse and they were, of course, saying “Take him to an E.R., get him a tetanus shot, probably some antibiotics, and maybe some glue or sutures.”

I am very concerned about getting him that tetanus shot, but tetanus is a serious disease and this is a deep wound. He had the four rounds of tetanus vaccine when he was a baby through age 14 months or so; however, they recommend a booster every 5 years. He’s now 8 1/2 years old, and we don’t vaccinate. We stopped vaccinating all of our children when he was about 3.

I was looking up some things online about colloidal silver. As most of you probably know, it’s a natural antibiotic that kills something like 650 pathogens. Some random sites I’ve ran across say that in rabbits it killed off up to ten times the lethal dose of tetanus. I don’t know what that translates to in humans though.

Soooooo, we decided to put the silver on the wound topically after the injury occurred and are now giving the silver to him orally every few hours. We closed the wound with a butterfly bandage and it has closed nicely. Because it’s on his knee, we made a splint to keep his knee from bending so that it will not pop off the butterfly. If this were your child, would you get him that tetanus booster? I am very concerned about the ingredients in the vaccine, but yet, I don’t want to be so “anti-vaccine” that I miss a genuinely important time to use one, if there is such a time. I can always detox him later on with some chlorella or spirulina, if I have to. Let me know what you think. If I need to, I can take him in tomorrow morning to get that tetanus booster and possible antibiotic. I’ am waiting for your responses! Thanks for your help. I really needed to bounce this off of some of you health geniuses.

The idea that the Amish do not vaccinate their children is untrue,” says Dr. Kevin Strauss, MD, a pediatrician at the CSC. “We run a weekly vaccination clinic and it’s very busy.” He says Amish vaccinations rates are lower than the general population’s, but younger Amish are more likely to be vaccinated than older generations.

Strauss also sees plenty of Amish children showing symptoms of autism. “Autism isn’t a diagnosis - it’s a description of behavior. We see autistic behaviors along with seizure disorders or mental retardation or a genetic disorder, where the autism is part of a more complicated clinical spectrum.” Fragile X syndrome and Retts is also common among the clinic’s patients.

I just don't like all these "blanket" generalizations and conclusions based on nothing. Thanks!

One point that is not stated enough is the money involved. The drug companies make billions off of the vaccines and obviously have the FDA in their pocket. And the schools endorse this why? Because every day that a child is out of school for an illness, they lose money. How do they solve that? By mandating vaccines. Thankfully most states have medical, religious, and/or conscientious objection waivers.

I once saw a study that indicated newborns prone to autism after vaccination DO NOT excrete mercury in their hair. Those newborns who do excrete the mercury in their hair do not develop autism later because their systems excrete the mercury out. Newborns can be tested at birth BEFORE vaccinating to test for present mercury. Does Dr. Mercola have any more info on this?

As a parent of a 7 year old who is thankfully not vaccinated (poisoned) and is not autistic, my heart goes out to all the parents I know who believed the lies of the medical establishment and are living with autism.

Parents with autistic children attempted to take class action against Eli Lilly regarding Thimerosal but were thwarted when they found that "someone" had slipped in legislation to prevent legal action against Eli Lilly in the homeland security bill. http://tinyurl.com/anukl So how come they are happy to admit it now, do they feel that the statute has run out and they are home free?

I think there may be a genetic disposition that prevents children getting rid of Mercury (Thimerosal) and that it could damage the immune system. It is important to note that it is the first vaccines that are blamed for this, the frequency of these Vaccines was increased from months 3,6 & 9 of a childs life to months, 2, 3 & 4. This was done because they considered parents too stupid to remember to vaccinate their kids every 3 months.

This damaged immune system is then does not respond correctly to vaccines, the measles component of the MMR seems to be some sort of catalyst, even by itself it was never a nice vaccine. The MMR booster is nothing more than a repeat dose, yet over 90% of children gain the immunity they require 1st time. There have been reports of high functioning Autistic children becoming more profoundly Autistic after the second jab of MMR.

Thimerosal has been removed from many vaccines but it is still used in the 3rd world and developing countries, why, because it is cheaper than alternative. It is no coincidence that Autism rates in countries like India are through the roof. Thimerosal is also still used in Flu Vaccines which are routinely given to pregnant mothers who are a priority group for Flu Vaccines.

In the UK we removed Thimerosal from Vaccines in October 2004; I volunteer for a charity giving advice to parents of newly diagnosed children with Autism; the majority of these are now late diagnosis of children that were missed. So it seems that the number of diagnosis of Autism in 3 year olds seems to have reduced.

Draw you own conclusions!

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, let's not forget that not all autism is caused by vaccines or other environmental factors - a lot of autistics really are 'born with it' and it has been in these families for generations, with many affected. There just wasn't a name for it in great-granddad's day.

This is such a good step in the right direction, though. Just as not all is genetic, some is surely induced by external factors - if one of those factors is to do with mitochondrial disfunction (either vaccine-induced or genetic) then that's another group of children who can potentially be helped. About time this happened! How easy is it to test for MD??

Just remember though that this won't apply to all autistics (and that not all autistics want to be 'cured' - treated, perhaps, or helped with some of the harder symptoms, but not cured!)

We all know[or should know] that mercury-free vaccines still can contain toxic doses, and also sufficient amounts of other substances(aluminum, anyone?) to cause at least neurological disorders in a developmentally vulnerable brain: age 2 is a period of intense neurological ferment, etc. Vaccines are artificial inducers of an antibody response, in this case, in an indivdual whose immune system is still maturing. Magnify the number of vaccines administered at one time--overload the system. Introduce these many vaccines via a fungotoxic medium--really, really overload the system. Duh. What really bothers me about this "new hypothesis" of a pre existing mitochondrial disorder is: where in the hell is this coming from? Why are our children not producing adequate D-ribose or whatever? Paging Doctor Krebs, father and son; your Cycle needs some review . . . .

It is VERY frustrating to watch this video. PLEASE let us watch it without all of the interruptions. I quit watching it. Dr Mercola invited us to watch a video, then it was hard to hear what the lady was saying.

As most of us who frequent this website have been informed, these vaccines contain very many harmful toxins, most notably mercury. Then with the claim that the mercury has been removed, there must be remaining toxins. Else the rate of Autism would not continue to increase. Though what puzzles me is what do the manufacturers of this poisin hope to accomplish by destroying the lives of children. Did they not think the truth would ever be revealed?

Yet so many people are so taken with the information, or misinformation given to us by Doctors we have come to trust, that no other information seems to be able to get through. Too many parents are not willing to do little more than take the Doctor's word regardless. Wrong move, no matter what anyone tells us about our health, we need to be about gathering more understanding. And yes there is a great deal of information about our health, but at the same time if we would just use the good sense God gave us we can find the truth. Not so long ago Doctors washing their hands between patients was something to laugh about. We must dig, ask questions, and dig more.

We have but one life, and that life is precious, and instead of taking things for granted, and being complacent, we need to start looking for all available information so as to maintain a quality life.

Again why is there no Autism amoung the Amish? Look for the factors, draw your own conclusion.

I am a 45 year old woman who by the age of 12 had suffered through chicken pox, measles, mumps, whooping cough, and a few bouts of the flu! They each lasted a week or two and I would rather have the actual disease again then have the vaccine and worry the rest of my life about "side effects" from being innoculated. My children were half way through their vaccinations when I became "informed" of the dangers and stopped. To this day, at the age of 19 and 16, EVERY doctor visit (a rarity) I am told "your children are not caught up on their vaccines, we can do that now, all of them today, plus the flu shot, it's for their own good". Of course I politely refuse and am met with stares of shock when I ask them to guarantee it safe with no health risks and to put it in writing and sign it. No one has taken me up on that offer yet!

What is wrong with Darko's comment? Vaccination is bad. Vaccination may contribute to autism. But that doesn't mean people can't get autism even if they've never been vaccinated. Come on, everybody.

New to Natural--I don't think Darko was "second guessing comments" here, just sharing experience. That's good, right? And you don't really know anything about Darko's relative, other than he/she is autistic. He/she could be "genetically autistic", or not. You don't know.

Writer4rent--thanks for mentioning the homeopathic route. My Mother chose not to allow my siblings and myself vaccines as children, instead she gave us homeopathics. I am happy she chose that route, and plan to avoid vaccination in the future.

That said, we DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE what causes autism. My science teacher (I am in high-school), who is a very open-minded fellow and researched the subject carefully, thinks thiomerasol does not cause autism. He thinks vaccines are a wonderful discovery. I disagree with him, of course!

What I'm saying is folks, let's remember that we don't know everything. Let's be open to hearing lots of different opinions, discovering our own and respecting others'. Sharing our opinions with those who might not realize exactly what is in a vaccine can be a very good thing, so long as we do it in a polite and calm manner. None of us like vaccinations, but folks, there's no need to crazy with fear!
