I'm really glad I subscribed here. It's refreshing to read opinions from people that have an incling of what's going on in our country. Much applause to Ron Mann, Islander, Kate Roux etc. I hope those messages come across loud and clear to anyone here that isn't aware of our economic and governmental dilemnas.

More good resources: The DVD "America, Freedom to Facism" (Ron Paul is in it). "Against Leviathon", by Robert Higgs, "Mobs, Messiahs and Markets", by William Bonner, The movie "V for Vendetta", and the old standard "Atlas Shrugged", by Ann Rand. "Atlas Shrugged is incredible in the parrallel that it be draws between the government in the story to our actual governmental behavior today. The speech on money by the character Francisco D'antonia, is awesome...should be read by every high school student.

Keep up the good work. And for everyone that is saddened by Ron Paul's position in the presidential race: He did a lot better than many people thought he would. His support is much larger than is made know by major media, and just because he isn't going to be president doesn't mean he can't be effective. He's still a veteran congressman and can still be an influence. Let's continue to get him known and to support his efforts.

This was a bumper sticker I had on my car when I was a bit younger. The same holds true today.

What I believe we need in this country is a revolution. We need to hold those accountable for the crimes the've commited. We need to clean house in politics.

We need to impeach.

Hillary,Barack,& McCain will be more of the same.

Ron Paul is my candidate of choice. His bumper sticker is on my vehicle.

I recommend reading Howard Zinn. His American history book is an excellent eye opener.

Our government has been corrupt and deceitful from it's inception.

It has always been for the rich,of the rich,by the rich.

Unfortunately I feel we all will just watch what happens on Faux News.

We let the T.V. dictate to us what is and what isn't.

We don't have a democracy we have a corporatocracy.

We should call ourseleves the Apathetic States of America. Will anyone ever get off their recliners to do something?

You gotta be kidding. Since when is devaluing a nation's currency a good thing? I've seen country after country go through this and it results in riots and unrest, nevermind the back-door taxation.

There is no perfect system, but a gold-based system is better than any paper currency any day. The bankers hate it though because it doesn't let them steal from the people through usury (interest).

To truly understand the problems with our economy, we have to look at the underlying cause. It is the type of money system itself, and is referred to as the money-as-debt system.

My husband created a brilliant educational tool that explains how money is created. When people find out about the essential fraud at the core of most of the world's money system, they can work to create a better system while avoiding the problems of the money as debt system.

The dvd is called Money as Debt, and it is a 47 minute cartoon. Because of the cartoon format, it is reaching people who have little understanding of money because the ideas have been simplified. It has been internationally acclaimed, and a quick search online will reveal many pages.

The videomaker is Paul Grignon and his website is: www.moneyasdebt.net

On it you will find very solid reviews by well-known people who have been working in this field for many years. Hazel Henderson, an evolutionary economist, calls it "superb". People have been watching it online, although any filmmaker always appreciates people actually purchasing the video. Right now he is working on the sequel, which goes into more detail.

It has been translated into French, Spanish, Hungarian and soon German and Dutch. Because it is only 47 minutes, people can watch it at an event, with plenty of time to have a discussion.

I highly recommend this dvd as an educational tool. It is creating a world-wide monetary reform community where there was only a small one, mainly, the experts.

It is time that we understood how those who control HOW money is made have power over all of us.

I want to add more to your reply to jnhiam.

jnhiam and many others here collectively imply that the founding fathers won and then were all in agreement about the Constitution and then built a document that was beyond compare.

Well, speaking of the Constitution, have you all read it recently?

First, here's Benjamin Franklin's opinion of it: www.usconstitution.net/franklin.html and then here's a quote from the Constitution itself (see www.usconstitution.net/const.html):

"nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

It is just as easy to read that in positive language as "shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, with due process of law; private property shall be taken for public use, with just compensation." And who do you imagine chooses the "due process" or how to take your property "justly"? I have recently begun to think that the negative "nors" and "withouts" are intentionally meant to obscure the power this document actually gives the governors and their chosen representative corporations over the lives of individual citizens. I realize there is a great body of precedent in the court system intended to slow the pace of the disenfranchisement, but it surely occurs anyway.

And, just to toss it in: the "pursuit of happiness" is not a right protected by the Constitution (or any other legal document for that matter). Not that anyone made that mistake above.

Personally I think we all need to be talking about each picky little word in the Constitution, and then formally amend it in favor of enforceable individual rights. After all, don't we have 220+ years of hindsight the authors lacked?

In hope of real liberty in my lifetime - in fear of the Despotism Mr. Franklin thought I would get instead.

1) There is simply no way, over time, that you can be paid more than the value of what you produce. Pay vs. productivity is a greater problem than inflation.

2) Your most important, long-term, sustainable advantage in the workplace is your brain power. That's where we're still ahead of most of the other countries around the globe.

So my advice is get healthy, stay healthy, develop your thinking and problem solving skills, and the rest will take care of itself.

A final note: what used to be true about the economy is significantly and forever changed by globalization. Some of it's good, some of it's not so good, but there's no going back.

Good article. It isn't as easy to fix than it was to overspend or to over indulge. I feel some of the problem with those who have lost their way have done so by not planning well, living well beyond their means, than their needs. Their is more wants then what is really needed thus more bills that can't be paid by many. We have a greater need to spend than budget and keep ourselves in a healthy balance of spending and saving. Perhaps if this was taught WELL in school at an eary age, maybe our kids will get it before they go off to college or get married. Just an old granny thoughts...

Today many women choose to work and then complain they need to work... in order to pay the bills!

I did enter the workforce when our first child started college and retired when the third one graduated and now my husband and I are enjoying the fruits of our labors. The USA is the land of opportunity for everyone. People just need to live within their means...being responsible for their actions...and stop buying (on credit) thing they don't really need!

Real simple. Take all your money out of the bank. For $1 you take out, the banks can no longer lend $9. Also, call your representative and demand that Federal Reserve be abolished. I would also recommend that you free yourself of external dependencies and grow as much of your own food as you can.
