There are many "anti-stress recipes" but few that are scientifically documented to be really effective.

Most of these are just reducing the stress hormone level temporarily, including different relaxation and most meditation techniques.

Real improvement of stress tolerance requires a profound change in the way you perceive the world. If you have a strong feeling of insecurity you perceive many situations as stressful. On the other hand, with a strong feeling of security, you seldom get stressed. The level of inner security is called emotional basic trust. Most people today have a weak basic trust, and this is reflected in the pandemic of stress-related disorders and the huge consumption of "anti-stress" remedies including anxiety pills, antidepressants and sleeping pills.

Psychotheraeuts know that it takes very long time to improve weak emotional basic trust. With EFT you can no doubt deal with some of the many life events that create a weak basic trust. But according to psychoterapeutic experience most people have a very large number of such emotional garbage, so dealing with them one may resolve some key issues, like certain phobias, etc but it cannot commonly improve your general level of emotional basic trust.

There is however a technique that has been found to improve emotional basic trust rapidly and to a considerable extent. Its effects have been confirmed by a large number of scientific studies, including research funded with 24 million US dollars by the US National Institute of Health (NIH). It is Transcendental Meditation (TM) which is a non-secterian technique compatible with all life-styles and all religions. Many physicians recommend it see for example http://www.doctorsontm.org/ and http://tmdoctors.info/.

I had a very low stress tolerance and tried many methods. After I started TM, my inner security grew tremendously, and I have no stress problems, even under very demanding conditions.

Weather the storm.

I think smiling through the storm is huge too, just smiling can relieve a lot of stressful emotions.

Usually I would agree with this quote "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger." But I find it funny that Friedrich Nietzsche said that considering he died crazy from a serious mental illness. :P

I have seen people overcome extreme depression in a matter of weeks. The Soviet Union treated returning Afghan war veterans who had PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). It also works well on bi-polar.

Part of the mechanism is an increase in the production of serotonin and a corresponding increase in the sensitivity of the serotonin receptors in the brain.

It also helps your body and brain adapt to stress, thereby decreasing our natural stress response that so damages our bodies and emotions and ultimately can lead to serious illness.

Right now there is no regulation and people with almost no training are trying to treat everything from acne to zoophobia. You can't eliminate stress. Period. You can reduce it's effect on you and change the way you react to it. The best ways to reduce the effect is through certain meditation techniques and through Qigong (which also uses meditation and guided meditation).

The CDC is mis-quoted. Look up the ACE study. 85% of adult illness is caused by childhood trauma. This trauma (mental and physical) does increase the stress load on you. Want to prevent disease? Reduce the impact of stress and boost your immune system. One of the best ways is through Qigong. Qigong has been practiced in China for about 7000 years and some of the oldest forms are still in use today. Check out www.yuliqigong.com. Some basic Qigong forms and practices are there for anyone to download and use, no charge. Qigong can be such a powerful immune booster that if you have an auto-immune disease or an organ transplant, do not do Qigong unless you are being supervised by a licensed (not certified) professional.

It is all things to all people.

Do I worry about the 7 foot python on the sun-deck, the snake poo on the Wedgewood or the Mum and baby mouse running around the architrave. (Just for the record I don't spray artificial anything, my wildlife love it, they hate sprays. Peace and harmony? Hmmmmm? Do I worrry about absolute poverty absolutely overcoming me ?
