I don't think you should kill wild mice. My friend's mom found a baby mouse in there kitchen and she caught it. I'm currently keeping it in my house in a big cage with lots of food, a bowl for it to go in, and a paper towl roll which they love. And 2 Paper Towel sheets on the bottom of the cage for softness. I might not keep him, but I'm not sure. I probably will but I will own it will my friend. I also might buy one at the store for a friend for it. Killing them is cruel! (my baby mouse's name is Miracle)

I do not trust FDA..they approved GMO,

monsanto will pay to call their poisons stevia or some other horrible blend of toxins

This is a horrible article for several reasons.

1 - There are more humane methods to humanely remove vermin

2 - There is no point in killing vermin without removing their sources for food and water. Science has repeatedly show that even in cases with larger animals, like feral cats and dogs, outright killing of the animals never helps the problem in the long term. The animals repopulate and very quickly reestablish their numbers. Even if you take out a whole colony of rats, the food waste that allowed them to survive and populate will still be there. New rats quickly move in. The key is simple. Learn and enforce actions to reduce the real causes to pest problems.

3 - As already pointed out by many other posters, even if you succeed in killing these mice and rats, they still go off to die inside walls and building not usually accessed. This just brings in more pests!

4 - I am not even sure this would work. As another person pointed out, what if the soda goes flat? Also, I haven't seen any rats drinking sodas. I am sure they can find better things to eat in the kitchen and probably just go to the sink to get a drink.

The only problem with using soft drinks to kill mice and/or rats is that, when they die, they may be somewhere hidden in your house, like inside a wall. I speak, from experience, that this is NOT a pleasant experience! The smell of a dying mouse is HORRIBLE, and lasts for several weeks! I had to clear out my entire linen closet until the smell inside that wall disappeared. The only way to get the dead mouse out would have been to break a hole into that wall and we didn't care to do that. Use traps people. They kill the mice/rats and you can dispose of them.

There is no creature I would kill with soda that I would feel comfortable with unless you can show me how to make black flies and spiders drink from a cup! THEN I will gladly buy a bottle of sizzy fizzy rainbow color crap soda and leave it out for these damn pests. Otherwise I will leave the sodas where they belong: on my grocers shelves.

I have to say I am shocked that such an article was on this website. This is a horrible way to control rats and mice. It must be excruciatingly painful and no animal deserves to suffer like that. This should not be promoted from such an authority as Dr. Mercola. I enjoy this site, but did not enjoy this article and hope to not see any more like it.

I'm not sure how well this would work (the pop thing that is)... But for all those upset at the suggestion of killing rodents, have you heard of HANTA VIRUS? It has been reported in pretty much all states as far as I know, and if you read the statistics on how deadly it is (to young healthy people, not just "old or weak"), you also would consider any wild rodent in close proximity to humans a direct threat to your life. Remember they don't have to bite you or anything to give you hanta virus... Just have some air stir around anything they've recently chewed on or relived themselves on (#1 or #2) (including their nests of course) and you breathe the air. There's no way to tell if they are carriers of the virus or not (at least not for the average person just looking at them in their house or barn), it doesn't seem to affect them.

The threat of hanta virus is REAL, and we spend way more time worrying about *if* the bird flu comes here and can affect us. This totally puzzles me...

I think that mice are living creatures and it's sad and inhumane for you to use your website ,which promotes health and well-being , and to use it for a way to "kill" something. The soda would not kill the mouse instantly. It would be a long and painful death! Ghandi said that you judge a nation by how it treats it's animals. Just remember, without mice sacrificing their lives for medical experiments we would not have had the medical breakthroughs we have had! Those poor creatures have been tortured enough.

Any wild animal in a human environment, free of the natural predators it SHOULD have, must be dealt with quickly.

If not, they will quickly over populate and end up dying of starvation or fighting to the death for territory. Not to mention breeding disease, destroying things and potentially causing health hazards for the human hosts.

Live trapping and releasing elsewhere is not a humane method as we are led to believe. Death is far less painful than starving to death. I agree pop should not be used as it is a painful process. Good old fashioned snap traps are the best.

I love pet rats and mice but they should not confused with the wild, often disease carrying wild varieties.

Wild mice and rats have their place in the food chain, but do not belong in human houses.

I didn't know that Sweet Deception is out of print. Do the big online bookstores offer a service where a person can have a book printed on demand? While I already own a copy, I think that having the book available at these places would enable many people to be able to have access to purchasing it.

Michael_Czajka - after reading your comment I was LOL. Do rats really fart? I think I've had an awakening that I really need to get a life since the whole idea of wondering if rats really do burp and fart is even something that I'm thinking about. :) My occassional soda drinking will have to stop!....maybe that explains the farting? hehehehe
