Spend more than you make? Ask your bank. Spread your military too thin throughout the known world? Ask the Pharohs, Alexander (Greeks), Rome, Der Fuerer and many others not mentioned here. This is 'old hat'. Please remember that those 'at the helm' are innovative and have great conceptual skills. They were educated at the finest universities. Ha!

I would dread to hear that Big Pharma was owned by Oil Barons - wouldn't that be a circle no one could escape from!! Future generations will look at us and not know whether to laugh or cry at our foolishness.

There are world wide stats on health and costs and standards of living -easy to choose the tactics that are already seen to work,like Swedish socialist healthcare blended in with a few other juicy bits. Canadian health care is bloated and stupid but it's there and if you're in big trouble they come through for you. Why couldn't the US, formerly so rich , have emulated that at least? If we can do it, so can you. When I see a really poor Mom at the children's hospital,playing with the child while waiting for the emerg doc, and not fretting about where the money will come from, I am pleased and think Well, at least we got this far. But, US, if you don't start, you may not catch up!

Cuba manages to treat its people with homeopathy and clever preventative ideas and they have many doctors and good coverage because the service is required in the rural areas after graduation. They have fan out lists of people to rescue, frail old ladies etc,in case of a hurricane. young men in their community are assigned to the infirm. Castro got a lot done on a shoestring. And they are pretty good at conserving electricity because they have to.

Wealth has made our countries stop thinking. Efficient ideas comes to those who like a mental challenge and who realize it makes for more equality among the consumers of a service. Please let our leaders aim for efficiency and prevention!

Oh yeah, and then there are the OVERPAID ATHLETES and the tennis shoes they wear costing a zillion dollars that every kid just "has to" have. Sheesh. I am so glad my boys are grown now!

All I know is, I sure would hate to be a president in this country.

It does not matter WHAT choices you make, SOMEONE is not gonna like it and you are gonna be complianed about and worse.

No one can please everyone and with this country in the shape it is in, and the decline that has been happening for soooooo long, NO ONE can "fix" it in a short time frame.

I do think Ron Paul is awesome though and has the right ideas.

One of your ex presidents (Eisenhower) stated: 'The links that have been forged between the pentagon and the arms industry could quite possibly thrust the US into a war they did not need and could quite possibly not win!' He obviously knew what he was talking about. The biggest threat to global peace are the arms industries; they don't care how much a country spends on buying their destructive products nor do they care who they sell their products to. These industries are more than capable of inciting racial hatred to start conflicts just so they can sell their products.

To paraphrase the saying for this topic: We did not inherit the United States from our fathers; we are borrowing it from our children.

One interesting historical element is even if we bring our defense budget down from the insane level, the fed historically doesn’t return or reduce the burden on its citizens. It shifts it to the next prioritized crisis: federal healthcare, social security, fuel controls, housing bank collapse, education, environment or whatever the popular cause. The system is just plain broke (figuratively and LITERALLY.)

It has become an unfortunate fact – one we cannot escape. We have abandoned much of our ability to create. We don’t much produce income margined product anymore. Except for a few pockets that haven’t quite died yet, it has arrived that huge government programs become employment mechanisms for the otherwise unemployable. The rest is service industry just trying to make ends meet.

We should have fuel at $20/gallon, this way we get the many poor (financially and technically) drivers off the road, making it safer for the rest of us. Plus, the added bonus is we would finally get serious about using our technological superiority to create means of transport that doesn't pollute, nor force us into importing the poisons buried under a mid eastern desert and spewing it into the air. Cutoff the money supply to the Middle East by bypassing their ONE commodity, and we end the wars and civil strife. No need for oil, no need for war. Let em live in the 10th century if they like, it won't affect us, and we don't make more enemies

It's good to see at least SOME of you USA-ians are AWAKE (you REALLY need to have a name for your citizens, because I WON'T EVER call you "Americans" except in a CONTINENTAL context, because guess what, America is a CONTINENT, NOt a country - I'm sure Brazilians, Patagonians and Canadians are AWAKE already, and they are ALL Americans!) - awake to the reality of a completely unsustainable lifestyle - the hungry and dying biollions of the world will NOT allow this to continue forever, nor will nature allow itself to be thwarted forever either. What happened to the Easter Islanders, eh? What were they thinking when they cut down the last tree and destroyed their "World" forever?

The rest of the world is fed up with all this nonsense, fed up with "g.d bless America" (the ONLY good thing about that is that they are - presumably unwittingly - blessing the Chileans and Ecuadorians and Canadians as well!) and flag-waving and selfishness and greed.

They are particulalry fed up with people who profess to be "Christians" (and WHAT a travesty that is!) asking for THEIR children to be specially "blessed" - while innocent Iraqi, Burmese, African, North Korean children are starving and being killed every day - they need to learn that EVERYONE's children are beautiful and valuable. Did you know about the earthquakes in China? Do you know about the floods in Burma? Do you know how many children have died in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last 6 years?

so what are we supposed to do about it? i always get asked this question. i don't believe in the federal elections. al gore losing to bush shot any faith i had. personal accountability is the first step (and the hardest). stop complaining about the media and TURN OFF THE TV. i am currently facing a re-call back to active duty after serving 4 years. would you all say bad things about me if i decided not to go back? i dont use a cell phone, i dont use wireless internet in my home, i dont watch TV, im slowly preparing my modest 2 acres for subsistence farming, looking into building a greenhouse, wind powered generator, and solar panels. im riding my bicycle alot more. wish to convert my car to electric. so what? all my neighbors still mow their grass 4 times a week. my little sister still watches 4 hours of TV a night. what are we gonna do about it? is there some grass-roots thing for Ron Paul? ill spread the word. im on the verge of giving up all hope for america, but i cant quit on her. so what are we doing? spouting off conspiracy theories on mercola.com? we all know about it already. ive watched every youtube video you could imagine. can we stop talking and DO something? It is like we are all walking around in a fog and can't see the solution to any of the problems that this country faces.

Maybe our only hope is to start at the local level and volunteer in any way possible. No matter who you are, rich or poor, offer to help those in need.

What ideas are out there? Can you see yourself helping out somebody who may not even deserve help?

I am not rich, and I work hard six day a week to keep my family afloat, and at times cringe when I think of helping other lazy bums, but maybe that is what I, (we all) need to do.

As a teacher, I'd love to see more money for education, but money alone won't solve the problem unless it is spent where it will get the highest yield, namely early intervention - preschool and early elementary programs that give at-risk children the language, thinking, and behavioral skills they need to be successful. Money should also support daily physical education and school meals made from wholesome ingredients, for the mind and body are one. I have kids who do not respond to any of the proven instructional strategies I use because they are tired or sugared up and cannot engage their brains.

We also need to close the gap in educational opportunities between the poorest communities and the rest of America. There are some school districts I would never teach in because I could not handle the stress of daily physical conflicts and violence. Those kids are most in need of highly skilled teachers yet least likely to attract them. Dropouts of these schools populate the world's largest prison system.

We also need to improve the home environments of our children. A majority of American parents provide loving, healthy homes for their children, but a significant number of kids come to school poorly fed and lacking in social and life skills; a school's resources are concentrated on at helping these neediest children who hardly exist in Japan, Korea, and some other OECD countries where people have children when they're emotionally and financially ready. I would not be surprised if the average IQs of our nation's children were lower than many other developed countries, not because of racial differences but because of prenatal and early childhood diet and environmental experiences.

Actually, "Mr. Smith" has been there since before the founding of Our Constitution.. and He is still there. His only purpose is to exclaim "This is My World! MY WORLD!!!

He cares not for you nor I, nor for the sake of Our World and Humankind in general. His insatiable desire is for Power, Control, and exacting Worship from beings such as ourselves.

Although exponentially more powerful than any ONE of us, 'Smith" is eternally terrified of Us as an enlightened, freedom-loving, truthful and peace-loving Human World. When that event-horizion comes into being, old 'Smith' will find himself spiraling into the greatest Black-Hole existing. I reckon that most would not lose much sleep over such a thing...

Please understand that it is not about religion/philosophy/politics and rhetoric. It is about awakining from our slumber. It is about our regaining that which is our genetic birthright. It is not about science versus religion... it's about abundant health, freedom, and principled love of our fellow humans.

As the renegade program "Mr. Smith" meets his inevitable end, he may ask us.. "Why? Why did you get up? Why did you keep fighting [Me]? It was pointless to keep fighting.. Why? Why did you persist??"

Our answer will be... "BECAUSE WE CHOSE TO."
