Whilst I more or less agree on the huge problems of GMO etc & the obvious commonsense approach of good old fashioned rotation farming, or 'permaculture' [although most live in cities now....] - & can only gasp at our own witless UK govt's appalling new laws to allow the blending of animal & human genetic material etc - the Darwinian undertones of much of yours & especially Pollan's stuff is plain misleading.

It mainly goes back to the ''Selfish Genefakir', Dawkins', unscientific rants that totally ignore the fact of Creation: DNA qualitively unchanged from the beginning, as in all the so-called 'Living Fossils' = Creation, & certainly not impossible blind evolution from some Accidental Big Bang in Nothingness!

No DNA = NO Cell, No Cell = No DNA. And INFORMATION is not material & could nor possibly randomly 'evolve' - & DNA is also mere chemicals, not remotely 'intelligent' - such complex info obviously needs somehow imprinting on its 'simple' sugars & acids from a Transcendent source....

And anyway, DNA [& any other as yet little known progenitors of of our 'blueprints'] is specifically engineered to ensure the organism produces nothing but an exact copy of itself, & usually rejects the random mistakes that Darwinists insist has turned slime into you & I, & anyway, such blind genetic mutations are 99.9% destructive or at best, neutral!

The main point here is twofold: plants etc are not 'selfish' or 'designing' but merely designed to flourish in virtually any conditions [due to the unevolvable miracle of photosynthesis etc], as the earth is designed to recover from our worst abuses; & only the Human Fall into greed & pride etc, from God's grace has got us into this huge, global mess. So, whilst we all have a responsibility to obey God's ilaw to look after the environment etc - & the poor - the actual monstrous scale of todays problems in every area of human life was not only predicted in the Bible, in chilling detail - but as warning of another coming judgement!

My husband and I will purchase a greenhouse this year not a big one but this will feed three famileys

all will help in the process. My daughter and Sons house hold and us we will have a great time. We live

in a very hot climate 115 to 118 in the summer and sometimes hotter gardens dont survive. Its a good

thing, what a great idea.

Health is a perception. You can take control of your health by perceiving yourself to be healthy as well as eating natural foods. As long as you do not have resistance to eating certain foods, you will most likely not suffer any negative consequences from them. If you eat less and consume more vitamins and minerals, you will feel much better. Don't eat anything you know you shouldn't eat. What you believe expands. If you believe a certain food is healthy, then it becomes healthy. But you have to truly believe it is healthy. I eat large quantities of super-dark chocolate every day because I believe it is healthy and I've actually lost lots of weight and gotten amazing essential oils from it. I thank the Creator for every meal I have and it goes down much smoother. I am not an overly religious person. I just believe that attaching certain feelings to what we put in our bodies will most likely help rather than hurt. It is not just the food but the energy we, as human beings, attach to the food.

never did get to hear what the corn, tomatoe, and potato had to add.........

Tried it 3 days later, and got all stewed-up with same mushy results...

Permaculture is AMAZING! I live in AZ and through permaculture strategies like earthworks and amending soil, I can grow an orchard, a veggie garden and flowers with the amount of rainwater that falls on my roof and some supplimenting from the tap. That is 7 inches a year growing all that food! I encourage everyone to learn about growing food. If you live in arid areas I can't recommend Brad Lancasters' rainwater harvesting books. If you ever get the chance to hear Brad Lancaster speak, don't miss it. He is a nut and a genius! Very funny, very valuable information.

Does anyone else think it's a coincidence that his last name is Pollan? There is some talk of evolution mixed in. And the idea of people being manipulated by plants. It sounds like part of the big dehumanization agenda to me. All authors are authorized anyway. You're simply not going to get any real grassroots ideas from mainstream writers. It's coming from the top down, the new religion is GREEN, worship of mother earth.

To Chipmunk 2.....Is your garden fenced with a strong, closely spaced wire? Is it under trees that a squirrel can jump from into it? You might have to fence it like a chicken run to keep the critters out....also have the fencing set into the ground at least 6 to 8 inches to keep rabbits from burrowing under it....do you have a dog? A good dog does wonders protecting your yard/garden. They need to be trained not to go into the garden, though. That's not hard. Then there's always a trusty sling-shot if your a good aim and there's not too many windows nearby!

....check out Rodale's Organic Gardening, I'm sure they must have a site on the web. Put your queries there and they might have some good ideas.

jeanannd...Thank you so much for your great and humourous article. In stressful times, it is humour that sees us through......we STILL have to write and call congressfolk and (MPs in Canada) But keeping the humour is a must, too. It will give us what we need to rise above the bullshit!

Thank you, Dr. Mercola, for pointing out these important facts and for spreading the word about the expense (in so many ways) of irresponsible management of our resources. It was our first job to take care of this "garden" and the animals in it. It is still our responsibility.

YES YES YES dead mouse girl.....this is VERY weird... I clicked on the thumbs up for you and the point went DOWN!!!!!!!! You had right on to say. POPULATION is the big thing mainstream media is NOT talking much about. Care to know why? I think the powers that be have every reason to be nervous about that....I think they plan on doing something about it and do not want us to guess what that "something" might be! because there would probably be one helluva big uprising....why do you think they've been taking everybody's guns away? not because people kill each other with them...more people die of knife wounds. THEY don't want an armed populace, and I wouldn't put it past them to have made sure things like Columbine happened (mind control? yes, it does exist) to make everybody get on the band wagon to control guns, for who wouldn't when such horrendous things happen to children?? But don't forget about the gov't who sat GI's with no families to wonder about them right near GROUND ZERO, all wired up and fried the crap outta them!! Right in Nevada. I wonder what they promised those soldiers to get them to "volunteer" for such experiments?? and they talk about Hitler and other "terrorists".......

Well, it seems like SOMEBODY has the control of my reply button!! I click on reply and it ignores me. So I figured it out to go to "comment on this article" and at least it lets me do that. Anyway, I'm off to make a BIG sign to put in my yard facing BC Highway 40 to STOP BILL C-51, an attack on natural remedies many of us can grow ourselves. Belly-up to the bar, folks, and start speaking up to the general public who haven't yet discovered mercola.com.

Julieanne...you are correct about the seeds being "hybrid". All I buy are old, open pollenated varieties, because if you save seed from them year to year (keeping only the best carrot, for example, to plant in next years garden which will produce your seed) you will actually get a natural progression of better cultivars. A friend of mine has done some experimenting with planting seeds from veggies that were from hybrid seeds. This is what he found: the product from many of those seeds were runty or deformed the first generation. However, by the second or third generation, the produce was often like one of the original parent plants, which wasn't bad at all. So if THEY knock out our stock of open pollenated varieties, keep trying. But it is imperative that we all get our seed stashes together NOW and buy only open pollenated varieties. And WRITE and CALL those damn reprsentatives and get ALL your friends to do it to!!

Remember what Ike said to the American people on departing the Presidency: BEWARE THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX.....and here it is now folks, right in our faces. I tried to reply to one writer a few minutes ago re his words about Congress intending to pass a bill re control of all your water in the hands of the Army Corp of Engineers. BEWARE THAT!!!! Get petitions made up and signed and innundate the bastards with mail they gotta wade through!

I couldn't view the video, but the article says enough. Everyone wonders about the demise of the "Family Farm". It has been a systematic "agri-genocide" implemented by "the Big Boys", Monsanto and the rest. Isn't it strange now that her in Canada there are 2 nefarious Bills that the Harper (a Bush boot-licker") Government is trying to rush through Parliament with NO REAL MEDIA coverage: Bill C-51, which will essentially make criminals out of anyone growing herbs ( and I am NOT talking marijuana!) for medicinal use...even dandelion leaves, for god's sake! Health Canada is recruiting "enforcement" thugs to stomp the natural foods and supplements companies!! Then there is the Bill (sorry I don't know its # yet) about making it totally illegal to make "farm gate" sales....which is EXACTLY what we should be doing...the money or trade goods should be going directly to the farmer, the produce directly to consumer (inasmuch as is possible), thus LOWERING the cost of food to the consumer by cutting out all the middlemen. So yes, in order to follow the advice of Dr. Mercola's article we must STOP the erosion of our fundamental freedoms like the freedom of CHOICE!! So get in gear folks, swamp you Member of Parliament, your Congressmen, with letters and phone calls to that effect. Numbers and positive thinking DO help. Lets not lose our FREEDOM!! There are many things going down RIGHT now that leave the sour taste of "Big Pharma" in the mouth! And they are in a BIG hurry to get these laws made, precisely because of sites like this on the internet where folks can actually learn the truth about what is happening in the world regarding our FOOD, which is intimately connected to our HEALTH.
