In panic situations, I usually kick into the mode of going thru the motions of doing all of the right things--and fall apart later. Instinct just kicks in.

Oh & another situation has bugged the heck out of me, too. The airplane flight that went down in the frozen waters in DC years ago..... The firemen stood on the bank while a frozen passenger was fighting for their life & losing the battle. It may be that their superiors told them not to act without the proper equipment.... BS! A bystander, not an authority figure, took off his jacket & jumped in the water and saved this person. It was such a disgrace & a scary thing to think about. Just like cops, who are trained for these situations & trained to protect us--don't burst in on these school shootings. It seems like all they do is surround the school & wait.....Sad!!

Keep handy near the door of your house so they can be taken quickly.

Just an idea that may be a life saver in an emergency.

However, in addition to this biological factor is the socio-psycho programming we have undergone as members of this "lofty" civilization. The powers that be have treated us and taught us, for more than 100 years, to be helpless and vulnerable. They've done this primarily through media bombardment (movies, advertising, news), and we have become a weak populace, unable to think for ourselves in a life-or-death situation.

I have refused to be the blind sheep in the fold. When horrible things happened in my life my brain immediately clicked into "survival/help" mode --instantly knowing what had to be done and doing it. I don't think about it. I don't question it. I do it. NOW. It's a dissassociative function that blanks emotion and focuses solely on logic and reason.

You can learn this through what Islander calls "awfulizing." Call it "practice." Simply "see" yourself functioning swiftly and rationally in a disaster scenario. SEE yourself calmly doing what you have to do to save your self, and the people around you -- without panic, emotion, fear or uncertainty. KNOW that it is right, and is rational.

Practice with little things: it's how I taught myself, years ago, to drive a standard transmission car. I visualized the process over and over. When the day came to actually get behind the wheel and grasp the stick shift, I knew what I was doing.

Survival of our neighborhoods, communities and our very species will depend solely on whether or not we have the brains to do so. Plan now, with the "things" you need, then plan with the actions you will take.

And, as Rick Rescorla warned: don't believe everything you hear...

It is simply the sum of our experiences, stored in the unconscious mind where we cannot easily access it, but valid nonetheless.

One of the best methods to confront our fears and anxieties is to "awfulize" them. Here's how:

Visualize the thing you are afraid of. Surviving a tornado? Asking for a divorce? Inviting a girl to the prom? Being in an airplane crash?

Imagine the very worst thing that can happen. Run through the ways you would deal with all the probabilities. Leave nothing unexplored. Do all the "what-ifs." Roll the outcomes around in your mind. Chances are you will come to terms with your fears and find peace.

You ask a girl to the prom and she turns you down. Worse, she makes fun of you to all her girlfriends. Pretty awful. How will you deal with it? Why not just laugh it off? If she's that insensitive, she's not a girl you'd want to date after all. Next week it will be replaced in everyone's mind with a new drama. Will it even matter in a year? In a month? Next week? Of course not. So pick up the phone!

The Midwest flooding dynamics, not yet over by a very, very long shot, will send out its ripple effects for years from now, and the rivers haven't even crested yet, as I write.

I believe with the current state of the world, one risk is desensitization to trauma around us because we hear so much about it, if we're reading UNembedded journalism. I feel it in myself often; just too much and too horrendous for me to wrap my mind/heart around, so I kind of freeze my heart in still motion. Not unlike the "freeze" state that was referred to above. And of course, if the masses are basically "frozen" from so much shock and awe, we're far less of a threat to those attempting to gain more and more control over, and reduce, the masses.

Keep in mind also that the little known/publicized knowledge about mycoplasma fermentans (biological form of stealth warfare), now lying dormant in almost every human at this point, is triggered by trauma, then feeds on our cholesterol to get activated, then manifests in us through a variety of different disease processes. References on this: Dr. Leonard Horowitz, Dr. Garth Nicholson, Dr. Donald Scott and Joyce Riley, RN.

Re. 9-11: do your homework on this unfolding trauma. I assume anyone reading this does NOT still believe that the official story is correct, but wondering whether people have studied information out there, as you need to realize the UNfolding trauma of this and from whence it likely originated. Think Trojan Horse, which is also true for much disease these days...

There is a very interesting book that I am reading in my studies from Levine, called Waking the Tiger, healing trauma.

IN it, he explains what happens in the wild and the necessity for animals, once their frozen state is finished, and if they find the danger has gone away, will start shaking off their bodies to release all the stress energy which has got them frozen, and then flee... By being frozen, they have a chance of survival, it is what their system tells them.

So of course you should try not to freeze, but if it happens and you are shaking afterwards, don't try to be grown up and adult, let it shake and live what is happening in your body... So it can avoid being traumatised in a deeper way.
