I am a woman in my 50s, in great health and excellent physical condition (weight training, yoga, plus) and one session on this machine (supervised by a physical therapist) and I became COMPLETELY DISORIENTED. I could not drive afterwards and the effects lasted the rest of the day. It was horrible. I think if we're going to shake , we should be in control of the movement, not have it "done" to us by a machine. I recommend a trampoline instead--or horseback riding, as suggested--or you can just sit and bounce on a gym ball. But to be "shaken" by a machine? NO!!!

I don’t know what the medical community has to say about pregnancy and vibration, but my concern with the vibration would be for the safety of a pregnant woman and her baby. When I was pregnant with my second child I got on my backhoe to do a little yard renovation. I had never even thought twice about the vibration of the backhoe, but when I got on it in a pregnant state, I felt an overwhelming urge to quickly get off of the backhoe, which I did.

Not only does it do all the things in your article, but it can take away pain and soreness caused by exercise (seems to remove the lactic acid out of the muscles), and help with steady weight loss. I am a big fan and have written a few articles on this amazing machine here: health-fitness-videos.com

In case there's any question, I could see someone suggest that trampolining or jumping rope isn't "natural" either, but I would disagree. I mean, the body can "understand" exercise and rebounding, but this vibration thing? If the body's reaction seems, or even is, positive - initially - or from small doses, let there be no mistake that one is inducing a "reaction" and this is different from a response. Caution is advised. Keep the whole body vibration down to a few minutes a few times a week and it might be okay.

My two cents worth.

I got staph infection and was in isolation for 4 months, which caused me to suffer atrophy that I still have not been able to overcome and maybe never will. But I have wondered if muscle stimulators might work.

Anyway I think my problem over the years has been many subsequent surgeries and long recovery periods. I now have had both hips replaced twice,(after many reconstruction attempts when I was younger) and I am trying to put off the 5th as long as possible. I still have the atrophy and a significant limp because of it. I have had gait training, but it seems that there is no way to re-educate my muscles. I limp, it doesn't feel like I do, I do and my leg muscles feel weak sometimes no matter what exercise or how much walking I do... I am really looking for a way to re-educate my muscles and re-awaken the ones that have atrophied. I have very little nerve damage so it seems like that would be possible with the right tools. Thank you for comments or thoughts.

Growing up in the midwest we had a huge lawn which I mowed regularly with a push mower having a gas engine. After mowing for a couple hours I was literally bursting with energy! I had absolutely no way of explaining this phenomena. I was no great athlete and wasn't aerobically fit, but I would shut off the mower and run like the blazes -- effortlessly! Who knows how far I could have run if I had paced myself or how fast I could do the 50 yard dash if someone timed me? It was truly out of this world! So if you want WBV, buy one of those oldie lawnmowers and find yourself some huge lawns to mow. An hour or so should do the trick! I've been wondering about this over the years(40+) and after reading this article, I now have some serious answers. If I were running track today, I would do some mowing before the competition began. I do not know how long it would take for the lawnmowing (LME) effect to wear off. Not only did I feel physically, emotionaly and mentally vibrant -- full of life!

It's a great passive exercise device. Instead of standing, you lie down with your ankles being moved back and forth from side to side. This causes a gentle back and forth movement of the entire body.

The movement activates the autonomic nervous system which relaxes the bronchioles (sp?) thereby increasing oxygen uptake. If you think increased oxygen can help you, the Chi machine might be for you, too.

It also helps pump the lymph system. That alone is pretty awesome.

I love it. I have borderline grade 3-4 spondylolisthesis (sp?) which Dr. Mercolas could tell you ain't good. LOL! Basically, my L-5 get to be 75% off its axis when I bend forward.

Most exercise is out of the question. The Chi Machine has helped me quite a bit. To my surprise it also helps me emotionally, too.

I'd tell you more but I'm about to get on it right now!

The best to you.
