These guys make me sick, when you start saying things like a computer replica of our brain would BE our mind. Than you would lose the potential that we as beautiful minded animals have being a connection to the vortex, the universe.

From what I see here transhumanists are working on one part of the equation -- extending the life of an "identity and experience piece" for human consciousness. I am researching in the field of psychotechnologies that would need to be employed if a being is going to be happier, because a longer life does not in and of itself guarantee a saner and more aware being, but it will give the being a bit longer to gain experience and incorporate it into a better model of life IF that being also utilizes the psychotechnologies as a necessary complement.

Human consciousness that is less burdened by palpable negative energies will most likely assist the most pure goals and purposes of transhumanists. Whereas a fragmented human consciousness will most likely promote purposes borne out of fear and compulsion.

By the way, there is nothing new here, it's all been done before..... let's do it properly this time :-)

The very idea of this is monstrous and at a core level fear based and downright selfish. Yeah, we'll achieve immortality all right, ... if we haven't blown up the damned planet.

if we became immortal then no one would be able to have kids, Only when someone died of accident would a permitt to have a child be issued through a lottery. If not we would run out of room fast. In china they are close to that kind of thing already. With the longer life spans we have now it will probably come along soon enough as it is.

Have those who say the mind is a creation of the brain ever looked into the thousands of cases of out-of-body-experiences? Or of near-death experiences? When they say there is no evidence, they are either uninformed, will only accept “scientific evidence” on their own narrow terms, or are deliberately misleading people.

Yes, we are already immortal, in our spiritual natures, evolving through reincarnation in ever-improving bodies. No proof? Read the researches of Dr. Ian Stevenson. It is not the outer personality which continues, but the spiritual core.

No one survives death? Or knows his own immortality? Read the many books and lectures by Dr. Rudolf Steiner, who puts his spiritual researches into modern, scientific Western language.

It’s all out there, but none are so blind as those who will to not see.

Interesting how this guy Grey does not look too healthy in the video picture. I wonder if he realises that the late Dr Roy Walford who wrote the book 'The 120 Year Diet' and who was the leading researcher in the low-calorie movement failed to make it beyond his 79 year and for the 3 years prior to his demise suffered from some neurological problem? The trouble with longevity which Grey has not as yet encountered is the rejection by the younger generations; psychologically this can be fatal!

you shouldn't worry about it, life in general has a minimal probabilty to survive on the long (or short?) run, as we extrapolate our current enviromental conditions. In order to survive, we would need a little more than some technological scrap, we would have to get rid of greed, selfishness, and all the other well known evils, which I think it is very unrealistic.

For the Borg: Just for fun, you may want to take into consideration the long term implications of having stupid people going around for ever...

When poised with a question like that, I put it in golfing terms.

I'd love to be 70 and shoot my age (70).

I'd appreciate being 80 and shooting 80.

Being 90 and shooting 90? Lucky maybe, but nothing a golfer would brag about.

There's nothing great about shooting 100 folks... at any age. ;-)

This is more evidence of our preoccupation with the illusion of life and morbid fear of "death." Nothing truly dies ever, nothing. We do not need to do anything to attain immortality for we are already immortal. When we can make ourselves still enough we can attain this timeless awareness but it is not easy.

actually, I distrust most of what is written in the bible, basically as I understand that it was edited into its current form by an atheist/pagan named Constantine. There is probably much which was discarded as incompatible with the political aims of that time, and possibly even some inclusions. So I have only relied upon what I feel are the core messages, in as far as my limited abilities can identify them.

Jesus- and many other 'holy men' have told us to not fear death as the end, but to accept it as a beginning.

Perhaps our time living at this level is neccessary for us to grow sufficiently spiritually to be ready for the transformation into our new forms? This would make premature death through violence a great wrong, and the deliberate unnatural extension of our lifespan unaturally almost as bad.

I believe that, as the caterpillar dies and is reborn as a moth or butterfly, so too our death is simply a stage of metamorphisis where the body is discarded by the soul as is the coocoon is discarded by the moth or butterfly.

If these persons are even slightly successful in their endeavours they may cause an 'evolution' bottleneck, unwittingly condemning people to stagnate as 'caterpillars' instead of passing into a new more marvellous form.

Some of what was mentioned on the video is OLD!

Why would you scan paper thin slices of DEAD brain to map it when an MRI can map a living brain? (and doubtless with a little more work, to almost any resolution required.)

Even so, the brain is not the mind or soul. It is hardware. I feel that mind may not be able to be mapped- some energy fields can be measured and even photographed but mind may not neccessarily be limited to discernable dimensions or measurable distances.

There are other points to ponder. If the technology became available to record even the memories of a living human, who gets to choose?

Even the speakers were a little shy with how population balance would be maintained if relative physical immortality became possible- one muttered something about either children not being born or those without the longevity increase dying (being caused to die) faster- or both.

I can imagine that the pursuit of power and wealth would become even more obscene and brutal if the reward were to be not just a longer lifespan....but to avoid being culled, - and to ultimately be among those able to decide who is elevated and who dies.
