The sugar in fruits is not nearly as deadly as refined sugar. In a fresh piece of fruit, the fructose is combined with vitamines, enzymes and other nutrients which metabolize perfectly in the body just as nature intended. So don't waste half a banana, Lucy !

Fruits are PERFECT foods.

Generally, Caucasians are more susceptible to this condition in that they are unable to convert glutamate to glutamine as efficiently as Orientals. Higher levels of vitamin B-6 intake have been found useful for preventing "Chinese Restaurant Syndrome" due to enhanced conversion of glutamate to glutamine in those who are susceptible to this problem. Try taking a good balanced B vitamin with the smoothie.

To those of you who haven't tasted it, Dr. Mercola's protein powder is the best tasting powder EVER. And I've tried a some other quality brands--they don't come close. This stuff doesn't even taste like powder, but more like, uh, whole raw milk without the liquid, if that makes sense. It's rich. And I can eat this stuff off the spoon! Other protein powders would probably make me gag at the dry sweetness if I tried to eat them plain.

They really shouldn't be eaten with dairy of any kind. An extra tip: be sure to avoid bananas when you have a cough or cold, flu or mucus accumulation in the respiratory tract. Bananas are best to eat when they have been cooked.

(and I can use the calories). I'll have to get creative. Thanks for the ideas.

1. half cup of your favorite nuts (pecans work well)

2. Half cup of citrus juice or citrus fruit (orange juice or strawberries work well)

3. Add water to taste (to tone down the sweetness of the juice)

4. Dr Mercola's Whey Protein would also make a nice addition

You'll be nicely surprised by the smooth and creamy blend, nothing like it and the mixture digests especially well since the citrus helps break down the protein - without causing gas - normally associated with poor combinations

2 bananas

Orange juice

Apple juice

Mango pulp or puree

3 or 4 passionfruit

Coconut milk (about a can)

A big tablespoon of spirulina powder

A handful of ground flaxseeds

A handful of goji berries

A handful of baby spinach leaves

A squeeze of lime juice

All organic, of course.

Just modify it as you please and according to what you have in the cupboard, for example the spinach, goji, and flaxseeds can be left out. Tastes delicious and tropical, and very healthy! You can use more or less of everything to make a big smoothie or a small one - it also keeps for a few days, just shake it before you drink it if it's been sitting a while.
