I often buy a cow or pig from a friend who is a local farmer, and who use no hormones or antibiotics, and feed them healthy grains/and or grass, hey etc. And I'll continue to do so. Plus, I eat the deer my husband hunts, and all the bass, crappy and catfish he catches, and duck, pheasant, and quail he shoots. He actually almost shot a wild boar last year too. I often wonder what that would have tasted like in comparison to our pasture raised pig meat. But, I have to say I totally and completely enjoy all of the above meats which are particularly delicious with a good cabernet. And, about all religious talk slinging back and forth regarding the Old Testiment eating swine, I agree with the comedian Lewis Black. Ask a Jewish person, who better to know and understand their book. As for me, I'll continue to eat pork, I can think of so many other toxins and pollutions in our food, water and air that probably do more damage to us each day. Besides, we're all gonna die of something one day.

Most "unclean" animals rendered the eater or toucher "ritually unclean" for set periods of time, but swine were held in particularly low regard. I haven't been able to find it again, but one verse in one translation/version said of pork, "It cannot be made clean." That would be due to pork protein somehow activating Progenitor cryptocides that then activates one or more stem cells to begin growing without differentiation due to lack of tissue injury; and if the immune system fails to catch & destroy it in the very early stages it's called CANCER. Try explaining THAT to early Bronze Age mankind!

Hell, try explaining that to self-indulgent morons at any meat department showcase who would rather eat pork now and be fed through a tube later. Wait a minute... Did Dr. M actually use the phrases "increased demand" [for pastured pork] and "health conscious consumers" in the same sentence...!? Did he really say that...!? Am I missing something here...? Shouldn't that be, "health UNconscious consumers"?

Well, Nils, just as you said in regard to Dr. Mercola, no one is forcing YOU to believe everything GOD writes. You're quite free to take or leave His recommendations. OK?

However, you should be aware that just as you have claimed that you have benefited from Dr. Mercola's writings, countless others have claimed that they have benefited from GOD'S writings.

1) If you read this site regularly, you'll see that Dr. Mercola does his best to provide helpful, well-researched information to his readers. It is sometimes contradictory, because the research behind it sometimes is. No one's forcing you to believe everything he writes. You're free to take or leave his recommendations. The (free) information he provides on his web page has been helpful to me a number of times, and I'm grateful to him for the time and energy he puts into it.

2) Re: biblical admonitions related to diet, please bear in mind that not everyone is religious, and those who are, aren't all Christians. Every culture has traditional prohibitions and recommendations related to diet, and they're often described in religious texts (the historical and social records of their day). They're worth learning about, but they're not the be-all and end-all of nutritional advice. The bible (or the gentlemen who wrote it, ages ago) may recommend avoiding pork, or stoning harlots, or say a fellow named Jonah was swallowed alive by a whale and lived in there contentedly for weeks, or that people turn into pillars of salt, but that doesn't make it all literally true.

Don't !! -

My own experience... I suffered from severe stomach cramps at EVERY meal for over 25 years. Many times I could not finish a meal before I had to make a quick run to the toilet. At about 35 years of age, I am now 59, I stopped eating Pork. Well, within 3 weeks I no longer had these cramps or toilet runs. All I can say is that eliminating pork has made a dramatic improvement in my health.

I'm not eating much in the way of any meats these days, for reasons such as the ones in his article, but also I'm just losing my taste for it. I do, however, find the comments on this article are quite interesting and I've enjoyed reading the differing opinions. That being said, all sides of the argument may find the following book "food for thought." Whatever your meat eating or not-eating preferences, I highly recommend this book: "Harvest For Hope" - Jane Goodall (you know, the chimp lady!).
