Just wondering, anyone know about Edamame? It's the actually soy bean in pod, so should be safe right? If organic of course. And I have an old recipe book based on eating a raw diet, "The Healthy Peasant". It suggests using soy flour or soy beans in nearly every recipe. I have not because I was unclear on the latest soy research and knew it could mess with your hormones. But should we fear the actual soy beans? Hopefully my questions will be answered by the recommended book.

hey, I did find "Hazelnut" milk, my son loves it, and no soy....in a 32 oz carton (not in the refrigerated section) at the health food store.

What is aggravating to me is that the more labels I read, mfg's are putting some type of soy in everything. It has become a type of filler. So while the my kids used to only get soy in one glass of milk as a milk beverage, they could conceivably be getting it all day long, "hidden" in food! That is just careless and wrong.

So, rather than attacking someone based on their expression of faith (this to Sathyam, with a gentle rebuke, your comments are less "enlightened/tolerant" than you portray them to be... and to everyone else, please be kinder, to each other, thank you). This season has seen quite enough faith based/interracial mud-slinging. I too was once misinformed on the soy issue, my first displayed an intolerance to milk based formula and through research (no i-net available 20 yrs ago) determined it was milk protein. Though I breast fed my child I was young and naive and believed I should "supplement," the only avail option back then was soy formula. My second child (much later) was also intolerant of milk protein. As soy products became more popular, they became more readily available and palatable...it was easier to feed them to my family. I continued to research this, because the more we ate, the worse we felt. Only recently has more information become available to me about the harmful effects of soy, first from Mary Shoman, Thyroid Foundation. Prior, had you told me that soy was harmful, I would have staunchly defended the only thing avail to us also. Hey, how many soy products are available in the "health food" stores after all? don't you see? Rather than be angry and spiteful, I now choose to share the information/resources I have gained...like Dr Daniel's book. Or even information about excitotoxins (msg, aspartame), from Dr Blaylock. Thank you Dr Mercola for bringing this information, and a forum to discuss it, in a civil manner.

A friend suggested I use soy to balance out my hormones. For 2 years i had horrible 'female problems', my hair fell out in clumps, I lost so much weight that sitting was painful. I quit using soy and slowly regained my health.

5 years later I'm back to normal, my hair has finally started to thicken, I've gained weight and my female problems are a thing of the past. I still have huge discolored spots of skin across my face and am considering having my skin bleached to even it all out.

My husband had gotten on the soy wagon, but after noticing his weight ballooning he stopped all soy products.

Soy is bad, in my opinion , and I narrowly escaped the butchering practice known as a hysterectomy on account of it....

Did you read the book? Or done any studying online? That would answer the question "Seriously, what's so dangerous about soy?"

Soy presents a real danger to your thyroid gland - especially causing hypothyroidism. Big does not necessarily = healthy. Thyroid disease does not present itself like a cold or flu. It is a silent disorder in many until the symptoms are severe. Maybe your family won't be negatively affected, but maybe they will ... so why take a chance? Educate yourself.

My son was seriously allergic to milk and I had to give him a formula called Isomil (soy based). This was back in the late 1960s. 35 years down the road he was diagnosed hypothyroid and became diabetic.

Like you, I think dairy food should be used with caution. I only use fat free dairy foods (I get my fats from healthy sources like olive oil and grape seed oil) and I use them in moderation. I use fat free plain yogurt in fresh fruit smoothies (some pineapple juice, some fresh pineapple, a couple bananas and about 6 oz. of non fat greek yougurt high in probiotics is a favorite). And my smoothies help me with my ice cream cravings - I love ice cream but don't go near it.

My family and I have been using soy products - the whole line: infant formula, milk, meat analogs, soy 'ice cream', etc.. - for more than 30 years. I had 4 children, including a set of twins. None of my children were premature and all of them are tall, healthy, extremely intelligent [straight A honor students] individuals. None of them or us, their mom and dad have ever been sick [no, I take that back, my husband had a bout of flu this past winter]. The only time we're in a hospital is as a visitor; or having a baby :>D.

Two of my children are now parents themselves; 5 grandchildren.

My son's partner was raised on dairy and meat, so her three children are being raised likewise - all three were premature and sickly. And continue to be so. And the mother just had a hysterectomy at the age of 22. What's bad about soy??? Check out dairy!!!

My daughter is raising her two children the way she was raised on soy; none premature, each a good size for a baby [7lb 8 oz and 8lb 5 oz]. Born on time [full 9 months] NEVER sick, literally!! At 3 years old her son is right in the 75% percentile of his weight and height for his age group. Very highly intelligent said his pediatrician. Keep up the good work!

Also, I am a Seventh Day Adventist, a good percentage of our church uses soy without any bad side-effects. But I am not saying there aren't some folks who cannot handle soy, just as there are loads of folks who can't handle dairy, BUT WHY BRAND THE WHOLE OF SOY as dangerous when my family has experienced nothing but good?? One other thought, I wish soy would put weight on, but it doesn't for everyone.

There is good and bad in every kind of food in the market today, some of it is highly toxic to certain individuals and yet extremely healthy and life giving to others. We just need to be aware of our own bodies and what is good and what is bad.
