Why does everything have to be crititiqued ? WHAT IS---IS ! Accept what you agree with and discard what you don't. ( We are all living our lives from different approaches.)

What is true to one, maybe false to another. HOW SIMPLE IS THAT !?

AND NOW, I HAVE FALLEN INTO MY OWN TRAP-------I AM CRITIQUING THE CRITICS. LOL

Having enough money so one doesn't have to live in poverty or struggle with expenses does help prevent stress and likewise therefore increase happiness. It's harder to be happy when one is stressed. In order to counter act the stress one must then actively practice stress-reducing practices. Of course just because one can accumulate has a job that produces enough income to live easily doesn't man that one should not be allowed to be happy. Warren Buffet is lucky enough to be wealthy. But being happy doesn't automatically mean that everything a person does is good. An altruistic person can be happy but then so can a selfish person. Giving, is another way to acheive happiness. So is happiness the ultimate goal or just one of them is something that should be considered.

True mentor in life is really important.

The best way to own common stocks is through an index fund is real true. Doing simple things make us rich. There is no need to do things which we dont understand.

Things which are difficult are need to be seen in another perspective!!

Laughing makes you feel great. I am at this unusual place in my life where I laugh hysterically (belly clinching, tear making laughter) at the dumbest things. Somewhere in the back of my mind I visualize what I begin laughing at, I see myself laughing at it and it just becomes funnier and funnier. I love it!!! I would add to that list to find something funny to laugh at EVERY day. (and I don't have my health 100%, but I'm working on it.)

So far no one has mentioned faith (except negatively--Buffet is an atheist, according to one comment). As the Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 4, we can learn to be contented in any circumstances, even in ill health, poverty, or in his case, prison. We don't need money, fame, power, or any of the other bandaids people turn to in their emptiness. When my heart is in love with the King of the Universe, I can revel in his love for me and his marvelous plans for my eternal future, no matter what dismal circumstances I may face at the moment. Jesus is Lord and His joy is my strength!

BeeGirl is right with the 8th secret being giving. It doesn't have to be a sacrifice on the part of the giver to bring happiness. You can join a local Freecycle group. It sure made me happy when someone could use my old furniture that would otherwise end up in a landfill. Giving can make you happy in ways that buying NEVER could.

I find it troubling that - although this was an article about a wealthy man who earned his money by working for it, and does not depend on it as a source of happiness - so many comments were critical, snide and judgmental. Buffet finds happiness in simple things, not in spending his money. I conclude that most posters missed the point: money does not buy happiness.

Wow, I noticed that the antiabortion rant had no place to reply. Probably a wise choice by the moderator since I don't see any point to it on this forum. However, it should be said that Buffett is pro-choice and I'm so glad he is. No need to support Catholic hegemony no matter how it is dressed up.

I have noticed that you are complaining about everyone's complaints. Yet from the looks of your postings today, and from the recent past, it looks like ironically, it is YOU who is quite unhappy. In fact, you have even taken to task making snide comments to Dr. Mercola himself.

Get off the SSRI's, take in some sunshine, and some healthful foods.

Keep reading this website; you clearly need to continue to learn how to "be happy."

It is sad that we dont really have a role model to look up in this country that typifies what it means to be happy. I can understand when people look at Buffett's bottom line and think: "YEAH! No wonder he's HAPPY!! Who wouldnt be with all that moola???"

I look at the sports world-A-Rod, Manny, Kobe and think that even with all that dough, they arent really happy. I look at Hollywood-Lohan, Spears, Ledger (RIP), and they arent or werent happy. Singers-Boy George, Amy Winehouse, Spears (again) and again-not happy. Happy people generally dont try to destroy themselves or act foolish, right??

I guess I must be "happy" then. My husband of 18 years loves me, accepts me and tolerates my moodiness. I have a houseful of pets, most of which I never planned on owning but who somehow found me. I had a horrid childhood of which I am finally coming to terms with without the use of drugs or shrinks, I have some medical issues I am dealing with ; now without drugs or docs I am slowly healing. I am extremely shy and found that I can live with that. I own my house, little more than a box and a garage, and I have a nicer than expected car. (no, not a Lambo or Jag, but a 2 yr old CHevy).

I am also flat, FLAT broke and due to my ongoing medical conditions (that ARE healing, albeit really slower than I expected) I cannot stand up or sit down for too long, so I am not sure what to do about finding work, esp. here in Maine. I sell on the worlds biggest garage sale website, but people are broke everywhere so they have little need for my old knick knacks.

Yet, with all that boo-hoo crap in my life, I believe I am relatively happy. Not everyday is a reason to belt out that "The hills are aliiiiiiiiiiiiive --with the sound of Muuuuuuuuusic", but hey-life is good for all the little things it brings.

Still, I do play the Powerball when I get to town. Hey, sometimes a little dreaming can make you happy too!

We are not all either totally good or totally bad.Warren Buffet is an atheist. Not my cup of tea. He also had a wierd relationship with another woman when his wife left and moved to Beverly Hills. In fact I think she fixed them up together. They signed their Christmas cards with all 3 names.I believe he ended up marrying the woman after his real wife died. Different! However, the man is simple........ we drove past his house when visiting Omaha last fall. Despite his financial genius, he lives quite simply. I recently saw him on TV and was amazed at the man. You could actually understand everything he said. He spoke in everyday language. Money has made the man, but it does not make him who he is. I have to respect him for that much.

More thoughts about money and happiness going together. Let's look at the world of superstar professional athletes, all very wealthy (and famous, too!). Manny Ramirez, Alan Iverson, Latrell Sprewell, Kobe Bryant, Mike Tyson, Barry Bonds, Rasheed Wallace; I could go on and on. None of these guys seem too happy to me. Everywhere they go, they're complaining.

I attended a small conference as a sponsor with a group of college student leaders in Omaha a few years ago. While I thought some of what he said was interesting in general I considered him to be incredibly selfish and self-serving. For instance he had set up a foundation "to decide after he died" what to do with his money. After he DIED? Why not now? Aren't there people to help now? Since this meeting in 2004 however, he has given a large donation to the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation to use for...oh yeah that's right to immunize people in third world countries! (Perhaps he should have waited after all?)

Based on how Mercola views immunizations, I'm rather shocked to see this article here. It seems to me that this is akin to posting the "happiness secrets of the Ely Lilly family." Take Buffet's advise, choose your mentors carefully, and I would add: someone other than Warren Buffet.
