i've an experience in having the homeopathy treatment.i want to share my experience with all the reader. i used to have an allergic to seafood. not only seafood but to other food like chicken. if i eat seafood i will have skin inflammatory. it was very very very uncomfortable. imagine that i only 5 years and i cannot eat everything i like....

then i tried homeopathy. i believed in it. it is true that it getting worse but since i believed that it want to get rid of all the poison inside my body, i continue using it. after i think 4 years or 3 years then i got better and now i doesn't have any problem and i can eat everything that i like including seafood. here i want to tell that even though i'm not really understand how homeopathy works but i believed that when we using homeopathy, it getting worse because it want to get rid of the bad side in our body...;-)

now i'm very healthy and i'm 21 years old now. the good thing in homeopathy is it doesnt have any side effect....believed me ;-)

The comments are interesting and point up the perennial and little-settled debate regarding the value of clinical use of homeopathy. A short contextual explanation may be helpful to understand my clinical usage of homeopathy. My patients receive prescriptions for standard pharmaceutical drugs, for over-the-counter (OTC) medications, for dietary supplements and natural health products, for eating guidelines and recommendations, and – when appropriate, for homeopathic medications. The greater the risk of a particular medical intervention requires a greater evidence-base for justification of the treatment choice(s)/recommendations. Patient-centered, evidence-based medical treatment is the cornerstone of safe, effective and beneficial health care. Because of substantially greater risk potential in pharmaceutical prescriptions I provide patients, there is a substantially greater evidence-base necessary for those recommendations. This is also true for so-called “off-label prescriptions” for pharmaceuticals used in a manner different than their originally approved indications. The basic principle is the greater the risk, the greater the evidence-base required for use. Homeopathy risk, if applied appropriately by a competent health care professional, is generally extremely low. Thus, the evidence-base requirement for safely delivering homeopathy is lower than that necessary for biochemical pharmaceutical and/or natural dietary supplements. One of the greatest values of homeopathy is its high margin of biological safety. The patient must be informed that although non-toxic, the risk of the homeopathy includes its financial cost and lack of certainty of benefit. No therapeutic intervention works well for every patient, homeopathy included. I provide (with informed consent) scientific and holistic, patient-centered, evidence-based, outcome-driven treatments to my patients. Homeopathy is one of many valuable options in this spectrum of care.

Sorry I could not reply under your post as my "reply" button never works. Please do not condemn what you do not understand and most likely have never tried. I, myself, have had nothing but ill-effects from seeing "allopathic" doctors. One medicine for colds and acne (too many antibiotics), and another medicine for the side effects of too much antibiotics (sulfasalazine for colon disorders) and another medicine for the side effects of the sulfasalazine (prednisone for autoimmune hemolytic anemia) and a whole host of problems from the prednisone (shingles, impetigo, catarracts, gallstones (and their removal), joint/muscle weakness, mood swings and weight gain) and more problems from having the gallbladder removed (medicine to control the bile (so that I would not need the sulfasalazine that caused ... see above) that caused anxiety attacks). Drugs cause the need for even more drugs, causing even more need for more drugs! I have never seen this problem with homeopathic medicine.

I've tried homeopathy,and it didn't work for me,I suppose it was because I didn't do it long enough.But taking it for a long is very expensive here in Minnesota.I've gotten better,quicker response for my sinuses using EFT,Homeopathy seems to much like allergy shots to me.I want something that is going to correct me inside and out.Not get my body used to something.Most times all a person has to do is start eating properly,and the problem,symptoms go away.To linbones,There are more than one type of Plantain,we have Plantain growing all over our yard,it is good for rashes and bugbites.In fact I'm making some plantain tea to put on my dogs bugbites.They just chew her tummy all up.You can google it,or anything else you want to know about.Just write in your question,and stuff should come up,sometimes you might need to rephrase it a couple of times before you hit the right pages

I've grown to support and see the wisdom of traditional herbal remedies - they are amazing. Garlic stops my colds in a day; plantain puts the axe to itching immediately. Modern drugs like aspirin are based on these remedies.

But I've doubted homeopathy. I'm an evidency-based, science-based person, and I haven't seen the science. I've enjoyed reading this discussion, but it has confirmed my instincts - traditional diets, traditional remedies over "newfangled" stuff - homeopathic & allopathic alike.

I can't believe what I'm reading in these comments. What century are we in? Defending homeopathy? Applauding the con artist John Edwards?

I just got up, so this will be a brief comment, and if I stop laughing I'll comment further on what I'm reading in some of these posts. Yes, homeopathy is mumbo jumbo--and while "allopathic" medicine may not be perfect, I'll place my money on going to a good old doctor than to a snake oil shyster...uh...I mean a homeopath. If homeopathy works, then taking a homeopathic poison (following the precepts of the dilution nonsense in homeopathy) would certainly kill. But alas, it didn't when James Randi drank such a concoction--the homeopathic poison failed to kill him.

Please, people, a little common sense. I know my comments will come under fire, but I think this thread needs a little wake-up call.

Message to John Mayer: Dear John, please see a reputable, classical homoeopath as soon as you can - then you may EXPERIENCE the benefit of this incredible system of healing. Homoepathy has stood the test of time - unlike allopathic - or should I say pharmaceutical medicine, which invents and discards theories regarding disease like clothes at a fashion show. 200 years of millions of cures in dozens of countries, along with the British Royal Family's endorsement of homoeopathy since 1834, etc, can't all be placebo, fraud, or whatever else you may like to think it is.

Incidentally, the Lancet article you quoted is full of holes in that the studies presented are flawed in methodology, and there are skewed/distorted statistics all over the place. As many readers here have already stated - the proof is in the experience, not in theorising and speculating. If you don't personally experience it or witness its effects, then - keep looking for your "cures" - they don't seem to have helped so far.

I want to thank Dr. Mercola for this discussion on homeopathy. As another reader pointed out, there is no reason to have this "aggravation" Dr. LaValley seems to think is part and parcel of homeopathic treatment. Generally in an acute case, a single dose of a 30C potency is sufficient to bring about a swift improvement without causing harm. It is important to get the dosing, the repetitions and the potency right so that harm is not caused. It should not have taken Dr. LaValley 20 years to have figured out that if there is an aggravation, you have to stop the dosing! And if an improvement follows, there is no need to redose. MD's do not make very good homeopaths as a rule. The best homeopath in the US to interview is Dr. Luc De Schepper--www.drluc.com

Now, to the skeptics, homeopathy properly used by a knowledgeable person can run rings around Rx drugs! There is no comparison! With homeopathy, you can stop a heart attack, reverse the effects of a concussion in minutes, stop the effects of food poisoning in its tracks, bring a person out of a coma,,,, people like Paul McCartney and Prince Charles carry a homeopathic emergency remedy kit with them everywhere they go, and so do I.

Jacktre, don't believe everything in wikipedia. Why don't you read what teachers of naturopathic schools write and teach? They have seven years of training. Acupuncture is also difficult to test and was looking silly for a long time until the tests got done well and info started pouring in. Now it's used at addiction centres and is quite mainstream.

In years and years I have never had a homepathic remedy fail to do a fantastic job in a third the normal healing time. Hopefully research will vindicate this fabulous option very soon. Beware who does the research - Big Pharma??? read with caution. But do try it - if it's useless, you won't be hurt. But you may be amazed. My patients always are.

I am extremely disappointed that Dr. Mercola endorses homeopathy. This was a slap in the face that woke me up from having confidence in Dr. Mercola. That confidence is now 100% gone.

John, you could avoid future bouts of anaphylaxis by finding a NAET practitioner near you. NAET therapy removes/cures allergies. Period! I suffered anaphylaxis and brought samples of several items I suspected to be the culprit that caused it to my NAET practitioner. I was "muscle tested" for each sample and tested "positive" for one.
