I am curious as to why the Norwegians might be sending vessels to the Antarctic for krill if the Northern waters were so rich with them. (the link follows)

"One recent study by the British Antarctic Survey found that the number of krill in the Southern Ocean has dropped by about 80 percent since the 1970s."

We probably learn more from each other than from the Doc (we aren't selling anything, and have personal experiences). But it would not be possible without this website. Though i'm not a huge fan and disagree with "much" of what he promotes--err--states, it's a decision i can make.

Most of his offerings are overpriced (imho) but some are fairly priced. (thought his suntan lotion was a good product, fairly priced-though i haven't bot any yet--waiting for end of year sale :o) :o)

ALA is by far the best antioxidant in your arsenal of weapons against free radicals. That's Alpha Lipoic Acid. It's both fat and water soluble, refreshes other antioxidants like Vitamin C and E, and has been proven in numerous studies since it was first discovered to be a part of our bodies natural defense system 40 years ago. The best way to take fish oil is an enteric coated one that is molecularly distilled. That is all the metals and toxins are removed at a molecular level. Most brands are today. However they are not enteric coated. Because the coating breaks down in the intestines where it belongs instead of in your stomach, it goes to work much faster and better. It also means the stomach upset and problems some folks experience, simply don't happen. Krill oil bothers me to no end and I refuse to take it, not just for that reason alone though. I also noticed the overall health I had with my enteric coated Omega-3's went down severely when I tried to switch. Best indication I know of that something is fishy ;-).

One thing not often mentioned here is many companies make their fish oil from what amounts to rancid fish. The best is sold to market and what's left they buy to make supplements with. This often leads to the distress many folks feel from taking fish oil. If so you need to find a different brand and do the research! No I won't say what I take because you need to do the research. The taste is usually hidden behind a lemon flavoring. If it's needs flavoring, watch it! I would suggest doing the search yourself, finding a good enteric coated Omega-3 and be prepared for a surprise. One note here. If you are going to get serious about a high quality fish oil, also get serious about supplementing with ALA. It's just too important to ignore. Especially as after 40, your bodies ability to generate it from any food source goes down dramatically. After 50... Combine these two and you'll see what I mean.

Fish/codliver oil is, and the omega 3s are destroyed in the process. Isn't this just a big scam to sell "snake oil" to the ignorant public? Dr. M has said that you need to eat eggs raw to preserve the omega 3s. The distillation process used to produce codliver oil heats it to temps above what omega 3s can sustain. They claim krill is extracted with a "cold" processing technique, but I find it hard to believe that they are selling anything in a bottle that hasn't been heated above the 103 degrees or whatever the temp is that is fatal to omega 3s. Could someone please enlighten me on this?

....Because even though DDS contributed helpful comments on the krill population and on better choices of fish, there are so many negative pts. because the comment about making money doesn't take into account the service that Dr. Mercola provides. Unless DDS personally knows Dr. Mercola and can honestly tell us that the Dr. cares nothing about other people's health and is only interested in making money, it's just simply mean-spirited. The high number of neg. pts. says many agree.

While it is true that Dr. Mercola makes something off what is sold, I would have to disagree that it's THE reason he is promoting krill oil. It is obvious that Dr. M is passionate about changing the health of the masses and steering everyone away from erroneous conventional thinking that he, too, once followed. The fact that he makes money off of sharing good products is irrelevent, because it's obvious it's not his primary mission. Even though, YES, you can go back and see contradictions in the old/new articles, as someone who works in the Wellness Business, I applaud him for being courageous enough to go out on a limb to share what he is learning as he goes. It is much easier to take a "safe" approach and not say anything for fear of criticism. Even if he gets excited about something and there is actually a "better" product out there, I have never known him to promote anything that he didn't totally believe could help us to achieve better health. Available information is always changing, and no one can know EVERYTHING, but he does a darn good job of trying to stay on top of what's best for us. I'm glad to know that he's open to new knowledge and willing to share it as he learns.

That being said, I don't just lay down to every single recommendation and don't think that anyone else should, either. It's up to us to be responsible consumers and weigh information from several trustworthy sources before making the decisions that we feel are the best for us.
