The study shows that the type of carbs someone eats can be as important as the amount. I was MORE than APPAULDed!!!! WE have to get the story straight to those yingyangs who make commercials for the mass media!!!! Yes is is the worst sweetner on this planet. WHy does ALL of Europe band it and we don't???? Any artifical sweetner is not good for the body /liver. Yes fruits are good for anyone and I do not believe that anyone can get fat on fruit. Just watch the amounts.... As for xiolytol I am not sure, but it does sound good except it gives me gas.... I use Aguave syrup. If it is low glycemic only means it is SLOW at raising the blood sugar. Not necessarily that it does not... Just don't take as much. Why does NOT Dr. Mercola explain these things. I always eat a fiber food before a sweet food. Why did we grow up eating fruit or a sweet treat AFTER a meal? Makes sense. The fiber inhibits the posible spike of the fruit/dessert.... I agree with K2L.p.s. I took a Nutrition course for my career.and I hope this helps any of you out there. What a crazy world of food we live in. I ended up going back to the basic of cooking almost all of my food AND trying to eat all organic with some raw every day. Dr. Richard Byron is a Nutritionist who has 50 years under him ( 25 of his and 25 of his instructor) and explains how to eat, what to eat, etc. He agrees with Dr. Mercola. I wish the two would get togeher and help even more people! Just a wish here. I wonder if Dr. Mercola ever reads these/???/??DDRMOM ( no I am not a doctor I just like doing DDR with my teenage son....)

I use almost no sugar, in fact no sugar in my household except yes, organic cane sugar that I sometimes use for baking. But I use maple syrup on my oatmeal, or in my cocoa drink that I make for after my gym weight training. Really just a very small amount will suffice! I also use honey sometimes.

Cook

Xylitol is a normal part of fruit. It washes bacteria off teeth, so it is used in Health store toothpastes. It is also available as a nasal wash. You should get up to 18 g a day of Xylitol. If you are eating plenty of fruit, that is enough, but when fruit is scarce, it is helpful to have Xylitol gums, candies or toothpaste.

Those who want to buy it by the hundred weight or substitute it for cane sugar in excessive sweets have another problem altogether. Dr. Abravanel's Body Type Diet, not related to blood type diet, has been a best-seller for decades because it WORKS to balance one's personal metabolism. Sweet lovers are trying to stimulate their thyroid gland. Iodine is the classic remedy--but tap water's fluoride and chlorine are also culprits in weakening this gland. You may buy bottled water (full of xenoestrogens and much else) but neglect a SHOWER FILTER. You should notice softer hair and skin within a week of getting one. You absorb more nitrosamines from one average shower than eating a POUND of bacon, so you do absorb stuff through the skin. Do not neglect a shower filter any more. They are about $50 with tax and will last a YEAR. They are easy to install.

So if you are looking for a sugar substitute, a shower filter is one of the cheapest and easiest and most effective alternatives there is.

Real fruit without ice cream, whipped cream, or sprinkles makes you fat...

So, I guess for dessert I will have to have a steak tartar sundae with octopus eyeball sauce sprinkled with bacon bits.

Dogs don't have the enzymes to break it down in their liver so it is TOXIC for them. It can cause comas or death in larger quantities. This might be why testing xylitol on animals has negative results, but humans don't have the same results because they are equipped to digest it. (This gives me reason to question some of the conclusions on the curetoothdecay.com site.)
