The local farmers can still do well financially selling their produce at the farmers' markets for more than they charge the supermarket chains but for less than consumers pay at the chains.

I don't put much stock in the usda organic label. I think many of the requirements are ridiculous and way over the top, the cost is prohibitive, and I believe large companies could buy the label w/o meeting true organic standards.

Can we make a pact to ban the word FINALLY from mercola.com? It is such a total cliché. Is locally grown organic? Not always. There is a lack of these products being truly organic and certified. So, we must look at the company which is peddling the product, to get a better understanding of what is truly up for sell.

Wal-Mart, which has large record of promoting of a sub-standard picture of organic, may once again trying to pull the wool of the unsuspecting consumers' eyes, by passing off what could be no better than conventional produce, as "organic". As I recall, a couple of years ago, Wal-Mart pledged to become a major retailer in organic food. With tricks like these and a lack of regulations, perhaps they finally will deliver what they promised: being a major source of "organic" food. As Uncle Russ once said, "Panic If You're Being Told It's Organic!"

But wait! We can just avoid this by not shopping at Wal-Mart, and with all the great tips Dr. Mercola told us about buy REAL organic foods locally.

42

re: Finally -- Supermarkets Expand Local Produce Selection

Locally grown does not mean organic.

re: Finally -- Supermarkets Expand Local Produce Selection

Wherever there's big money to be made you will find Companies like Wal Mart......It is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, NOTHING ELSE.
