I actually got scared when I read it. We had some neighbors that lived across from us years ago. They had two, very beautiful pitbull dogs. Very, very protective of this family. They were well loved and allowed to com and go into the house at will. The problem my neighbor was having at the time, was that they had problems having company over for visits. The dogs were so overly protective that could never be allowed to come inside during those times.

Eventually the husband decided to get rid of the dogs and screamed at them after they had just had visitors. He told them that he was going to take them to the pound and be destroyed, and that they were horrible dogs,etc.. It is so frightening what happened next! They came in to the house, like they always did, and attacked our neighbor and his young son!! His son lost part of his ear and the husband had multiple bites, cuts on his arms trying to ward them off! They managed to call 911 and the police got there and shot both dogs, dead. Our neighbor kept telling us all, including the police........"they understood me!".

We, as people, need to realize that all of creation has an innate ability to comprehend us in one way or another. Whether it's through energy levels they sense in us or intelligence....we need to respect them!

I have been in the habit for many many years of talking to any living creature mentally. I have experienced similar responses to yourself. I have been able to catch big huntsman spiders (I live in Australia), dragonflies, mantises, cockroaches, beetles and moths without hurting them and to take them safely outside. I even ask them whereabouts they want to be placed and yes I get a reply. I talk to them first and let them know that I intend them no harm. I don't say this in public usually because many people are disbelieving of such things and would prefer to think that I am nuts.

Can humans read the mind of their dog? My female dobermann used to send me mental pictures of an empty water bowl every time she was thirsty. I would be moving around our house doing cooking, cleaning or whatever, not even thinking about her and out of the blue I would get this strong clear picture in my head of her empty water bowl. I would go outside to check and her water bowl would be empty (she would follow me outside of course!) She would then confirm the situation by drinking heartily from the bowl when I filled it with water. This happened to me many many times with her. It was normal in our relationship.

Our silver tabby female cat makes it her business to go and sit with or on anyone in the family who is upset or unhappy about something. They will be given the "treatment", loving, positve, calming energy. We call it Cat Reiki.

I really love the praying mantis. Pick one up sometime and check it out. They check you out in the process. Then carefully set it down. Next time you go to pick it up it will climb on your hand. I work in a big garden and the mantises no longer run from me. Some even jump on me and go for a ride. I would swear they know I won't harm them. Same with spiders. They don't run from me. I can easily catch them and put them outside. The more I do this the easier they are to catch, as if they no longer fear me. It's pretty cool.

I certainly do not know if it is true, but it was very interesting-the program said that wolves did not learn hand signals, but that dogs did, and one of the reasons was that dogs had developed an extra gene in their DNA that specifically related to observation of their human companions. Dogs (and probably all the other animals we may share our lives with) are masters of observation, and if we could learn a little of this from them, then we as humans would probably interact much better with our world. I love dogs, and cats, and just about any creature on our earth-well, I won't share my home with reptiles, much to my sons' chagrin.

If you have not seen it yet-go to You Tube and search Christian the Lion-a very touching video, and one that demonstrates the love that can develop with our furry friends.

If we steal it from an animal near us, that animal will automatically try to steal it back. Same with humans.

But those people who are dissing Cesar Milan, are jealous or misinformed. I am so surprised at the venom towards him. Cesar is not aggressive to the dogs. He is an alpha male energy. He understands about energy and communication. Dogs are pack animals and do want an alpha to follow. Someone has to be the leader, so is it you or the dog? I'm not saying don't be kind and loving toward your dog. Too many people use human psychology on dogs, forgetting that they are animals.

re: Dogs Can Read Their Owner's Minds

Milan's show makes for great "reality tv". I do have concerns, as expressed by several other folks, about the longer term results of Milan's interventions. What he describes as "calm submission" is what I have seen as an animal shutting down which can be the calm before the storm or the total emotional breakdown of what could have been a bright, responsive and happy companion animal. Either outcome is not acceptable.

My girl loves her agility game. When we don't do well it is my fault because I fail to clearly indicate to her what I want her to do. When we were attending classes so we could both learn how to do agility I encountered "trainers" who thought they knew the best way to get my girl to do the see-saw which she found quite frightening - ground that moves! Their methods frightened her even more. She shutdown compeletly and wouldn't even do her favourite - the tunnel. When she saw the scary equipment she headed for the truck or lay down, It took me 6 months to get her back to being a happy "let's play" dog again.

Our animals are quiet watchers of our behaviour. When we aren't really paying attention to them they are watching us closely and well aware of our moods. This is the level of communication that we have "forgotten". We talk all the time or have the radio or TV on. We don't listen to the quiet voice inside - our intuition - because there is no argueable "reason" for what it tells us. Of course our animals are telepathic/empathic. We are as well if we would just observe and listen as they do. Maybe it is time to learn (remember?) another language?
