fact is - we don't know if Roundup and/or the GMO plants are harmful to humans or animals.

If they have great harm potential we are in bad shape having Monsanto with its great power as the sales agent here. With the income from the Herbicide and seed sales they can buy their way into "scientific acceptance".

I have not met a farmer that is fond of the company! By admission of one of their staff: the product is priced as high as possible and still allow the farmer a wee bit of $ in extra net. That is if you don't lose the crop or have a poor yield year. So far corn and soybean planting is being delayed by rains and much of it will get planted too late for optimum yields. Of course if this is noted by the wall street and commodity speculating crowd they will bid grain prices up- and then the newspapers will say that use of ethanol increased the pricde in the grocer store.

You might mention that while Roundup is illegal to use in British Columbia, it is sold everywhere, notably RONA, the Québec-based giant, who has bought out practically all the local stores that Home Depot hasn't. In Madeira Park, British Columbia, Canada I, along with other staff members, was forced to work within FIVE FEET of a pesticide display featuring Roundup, among other, untested, but lethal pesticides. I was told that the floor plan was sent from headquarters in Québec, and that there was nothing to be done right at that time. I showed the manager and his assistants a copy of the BC Health and Safety Act, which clearly stated that pesticides were not to be stored inside retail premises, but in a special location with 6X per hour ventilation. Again, no action was taken. In about four months, I was experiencing headaches, disorientation, and narcoleptic incidents on the job, for which I was sent home without pay. I finally collapsed, and was eventually diagnosed with symptoms consistent with toxic exposure. Unfortunately, evidence is extremely difficult to isolate in these cases; I was, however, able to obtain full disability benefits, which I am still on, one year later. I will remain on them until I retire next April, at which time I will have to apply for government disability. I am still unable to exert myself for any length of time, and am forced to take massive does of anti-depressants and pain killers to function at all. The pesticides were moved to another area of the store shortly after I collapsed, and I understand that now they are outside, though in an unregulated area. Thanks, RONA, thanks a lot. Use cheap vinegar to kill weeds - it kills anything actually so be careful where you spray it. Works best to apply on a hot day in full sun. Repeat application was necessary in my yard on 5-10% of the weeds but I found this more effective than Roundup where I had 100% failure sometimes.

Great ideas on how to 'weed' the yard. Additionally Roundup doesnt even work half the time so one has to repeat application multiple times in my experience. My wife had enough and got me off the stuff thank goodness.

I like exercise but we litterally had hundreds of tough to pull weeds in the yard. So my wife heard that spraying vinegar on them works. Tried it and it does work. Had to do a repeat application in some instances but I had to also do that with roundup. Vinegar seems about as effective if not more so than roundup. Vinegar is less than $3/gallon. I paid $15 for a quart of Roundup that mixes into 5 gallons at Home Depot. Same price for vinegar, vinegar works same or better, and I think vinegar is non-toxic unlike Roundup. And we no longer directly support one of the most evil empires on the planet - Monsanto. I say nuke-em.

How do you fight City Hall? About 15 yrs ago, I planted rosemary on the west corner of my yard--ideal spot to plant it--full sun (which few plants can withstand in south Texas). After the plants matured, I no longer had aphids and webworms in my ash trees--rosemary attracts ladybugs & lacewings that eat aphids/web worms. The City sprayed some kind of vegetation killer on my rosemary plants and just left them standing brown and dead (the 1st 10 feet from the street belongs to the city). I complained for a year that they sprayed toxic chemicals on them and then just left them standing dead (they said they killed them because neighbors complained that they couldn't see around them although I've never had any trouble seeing cars coming and I just simply refused to pull them up myself). I told the city that they are blocking the view as much brown as they ever did green--they finally came and pulled them up and destroyed the fabric weed block that I had laid down and left it on the ground torn into shreds and threw all of the mulch into the street, so I called the city back to thank them for pulling up the dead rosemary plants and asked when they were going to return to clean up the mess they left and either replant rosemary or sod. They told me that they weren't going to do either. I spoke to the mayor after no results with the city workers and he told me that they weren't going to resod. I told him if he resods, I'll mow it, otherwise I won't and wild trees will start growing there. He said he didn't mind a few wild trees--I said "you don't mind a few ugly wild trees, but by golly those beneficial rosemary plants have to die". Anyway, he did eventually plant sod there and BTW the aphids and webworms have returned to my ash trees. I replanted more rosemary plants but made sure they are on my side of the property line. I haven't used any kind of weed killer nor bug killer in over 15 yrs--I plant rosemary, garlic chives, tansy, marigold, etc. to deter bugs.

The story goes that Monsanto's accountancy firm asked 'where do you want to be in 10 years?'

And the answer was I believe- 'in control of nearly all seed stock'.

So the recommendation was that to control any seed stock it must be for a new product - which is why Monsanto bought into GM.

So- it is all about the money. The potential for tragedy is incidental.

With enough money you can 'deregulate' the market, and as with Big (P)harm you can change the rules so that your profit today cannot be eroded by litigation tomorrow.

The future of mankind is looking grim.

An addition to my previous comment: We have honey bees in a hollow tree out back of our house as well. I guess they feel welcome with all the flowering "herbs" we have around here as well.

A lawn without weeds is a lawn without butterflies. Larvae of the Great Spangled Butterfly especially like the tiny wild violas which grow among the grass. It has been my experience that they will NOT eat domesticated violas. Other butterflies lay their eggs only in the midst of dry and dead leaves.

I has also been my experience that goats will eat any weed ---- except a goat weed. But, then the dove and cardinals love the seeds from those weeds in the winter! Horses like the seeds as well.

In the spring and early summer, horses also LOVE wild lettuce which, once it produces seeds, feeds the chickadees. The wild lettuce is also edible by humans. Although it leans to the bitter side, it's a nice accent addition to a regular green salad. Not to mention, also, the availability of purslane, dandelions, lambsquarter (Steamed, it's better than spinach!) and parboiled and drained poke salad. Who needs to get out and go to any store!?

The same thing happened to Eve in the original garden. She chose to believe the serpent instead of God. Repent and be baptized and start learning how to let God be God. He is God and He does offer a future for His children that does not include this evil and corrupt world. Denying Him, rejecting Him, changing Him to suit our own purpose, and refusing to believe what He and His Son say will not change that. He is behind all the important events that will bring about the return of His Son with power and glory to establish His Kingdom here on earth. I lived beside a woman who used everything and any chemical to keep her yard perfect, and she did have a beautiful yard. My lawn was full of dandylions and she came over one day to ask me to use something to get rid of them as the seeds were blowing into her perfect yard. I had 4 children who loved to play outside on our lawn and pick "flowers" for me. I told her that i would rather have a lawn full of healthy yellow flowers than a house full of sick children. As a result, she never spoke to me again and my children and I are healthier for it.

Whilst we all continue to allow money and big business to rule all....the destruction of human health, reproductive ability,rational questioning thinking, the poisoning of the planet and all it's ecosystems....is assured.

We are currently witnessing the results of the illusion of money being lent to people who couldn't afford to borrow it in the first instance and now increasingly cannot afford to repay it due to price rises massively out- pacing income.

The same collapse of other illusory systems is sure to follow.

We are the only animal this stupid, gullable, and determined to move so far away from being connected and understanding of the natural world....that we are on course to destroy all.

I agree with the sentiment overall, you should just be careful who you quote for fear of undermining a sound argument. You may not be aware of this in the USA, but David Icke is most famous in the UK for announcing on a UK chat show that he was the "Son of God" then reinventing himself as a new age guru.

`As you can see from reading below- he believes in the Illuminati, but I'm not entirely convinced it's the same version of the illuminati that Dr Mercola would believe in!

As for poor old Boxcar Willie- whatever did he do wrong!
