Now, he did recommend important lifestyle changes such as that recommended by Dr. M. But he also immediately put my mother on byetta. He said it was a "naturally derived hormone that has helped millions of people." He did mention that she should stop taking byetta if she get upper abdominal cramps because this indicates pancreatitis. He did not mention any of the drawbacks that have already been experienced by others. But he did mention that it would be natural for my mother to feel nausea - but that's OK "That means byetta is working and it will keep her from eating..."

Guess what? I looked up the common symptoms of byetta and the danger signs. Nausea is a danger sign of byetta causing pancreatitis. I'm upset now. There are so many drugs to track that I didn't know what to think of this "byetta" at first. Now, I have to watch my mother like a hawk because this HMO wants to send her to an early grave? Or is it just ego getting in the way of good science?

Byetta: In summary, the incretin mimetics have been shown to be effective in sustaining glycemic control together with gradual but continuous reductions in body weight and improvements in beta-cell function. In the case of exenatide, data are now available, showing that the efficacy persists for up to 3 years. Side effects are generally mild to moderate in severity. With exenatide, there is a noticeable increase in the number of reports of nausea, although these reports do seem to decrease over time.

This was shown on Oz TV last night ((Sept 16th), so I don't know how long it will be available online. Our government probably works differently to yours, but politics is politics - you will get the drift.

The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme provides free and/or subsidised medicine. Enjoy!

You can sign up for his weblogs that will help you know about the lastest research for people w/diabetes and cardiovascular disease. He says Byetta doesn't cause pancreatitis! He's an endocrinilogist! Byetta helped me both times I was taking it. My sugars are high now that I have no medical and can't afford to buy it outright. All it is is a GLP peptide (that is absent in those w/diabetes) in the hormonal cascade that begins with the thought of food. It slows the emptying of food thereby avoiding postprandial spikes in glucose. I would be willing to wager that those who died while on Byetta developed pancreatitis through some other means, which is entirely possible. Watch Dr. Joe's videos and learn the truth from a real pioneer in the treatment of diabetes and heart disease! I was better on Byetta and it did not make me sick!

For me, a wonderful breakfast is an egg fried in butter, a piece of wheat bread and a piece of fruit. For me, I like eating meat, veggies, fruit, and carbs throughout the day and it makes me feel great. The elimination of refined sugar is of course optimal, but if I get rid of all types of carbs then I am a train wreck.

While it drug deaths makes sensational press, Byetta can be very helpful when metformin alone does not control blood glucose and you don't want to go in insulin, which would increase fat storage in those insulin resistant. Plus, when i started Byetta, it somehow affected the need for thyroid meds, which may have been unnecessary to begin with. I was able to stop thyroid meds and haven't needed any for over 2 years.

They have discovered sugars and starches are needed to get the serontonin thru to the brain. I am trying to still limit my carbs, but spread them out during the day, that seems to help. I am diabetic and I use cinnamon tablets and chromium occasionally to treat it. I know 90 to 110 is supposed to be normal, but I've noticed if my sugar gets below 120, I feel very fatigued and jittery. I am obese, could it be I need more sugar to run just like my big Buick needs more octane to run? (I know I'm not a car, but I wonder about the correlation)

But yet another report has come out recommending the Mediterranian diet, which is high in grains and cereals and low in meat and dairy products.

(I have fought him off on the Lipitor.) He gave me a kit and a coupon he had for a free month's trial. I went home and researched it and immediately decided, "no way!" Why should I mess up my body, digestive system, have horrible side effects (I equate nausea with punishment in Hell)? I'm down to normal weight, a strong protein type, and TRY to do things right (age 69, diabetes for 22+ years) but my blood sugars still swing up too high, forcing me to nip it down with a unit or two of Humalog (exercise doesn't seem to do it). I keep working on how to get that leptin and ghrelin under control but body doesn't always cooperate. Stress from having an ever-present (mooching) stepson living with us for the last 18 years may be a factor. Overall I'm probably in better shape than many of the people I see around me, though.
