For those with privacy concerns about Google Chrome, a German company has altered the source code (which is allowed when software is open-source, as Google Chrome is) to make Iron, which doesn't send collected data to Google and doesn't use the Google Updater.

Google will be the next Microsoft. Chrome will develop into the next operating system to replace Vista. Then stores will start to sell dumb terminals that are not more than a flat screen monitor loaded with Chrome. All of your document storage will be stored on the web for a small fee that Google will charge you. This will be your Internet access and file storage...even your applications like Word, Execl or whatever Google replaces them with. No need to ever buy software again, Google will let you have web access to all applications right across their Chrome Internet. There goes the privacy right out the proverbial window. Who will secure the files, by then Google will simply want their $29 a month, then they will route you to some person who can barely speak English in China to answer the technical question of how to resore the file of your dissertation that you have been working on over the last year that's due in a couple of weeks...and they can't find nor care if they even can get your file back.

I am still on IE6 because it came with XP. I am still on Windows Media Player 9...why? Not because I fear change...because it works for what I need. I have an Office suite but when Office 2007 comes out the files are changing again...why? I don't think Microsoft knows anymore.

There is plenty of computing power in a standard $400 PC that does everything the average consumer needs which is usually not more than email and web. Maybe some MP3 or video processing but I am still doing that with my P4 2.8GHz machine I bought 3 years ago.

Chrome...Vista....Is it needed? What's the benefits of switching? What would happen if I didn't use it? Is what I'm currently using not fulfilling my needs?

I downloaded Google Chrome and found it pretty feature-poor compared to Firefox. What I really didn't like was that it "phoned home" constantly, even when I was not using it (I have a firewall that alerts me to this kind of thing). Even after I uninstalled Chrome, a piece called GoogleUpdate.exe kept running and trying to connect to the internet. I had to find the file and manually delete it to stop it from running,

I had the same thing happen with the Google Desktop search feature which Mercola recommended several years ago, it was a lot of work to get that off my system too.

I am very uncomfortable with the "phone home" stuff, it eats up processing power and may very well be spyware.

New Opera 9.5 browser - very fast and faster than FF3. Not as many add-ons as FF but definitely faster.

The new OPERA 9.5 is very fast! I'd never really liked it in the past but this one has a brand new browser engine and is "more than 2x faster than Opera 9.2 in rendering JavaScript and HTML". It has other features also but not as many add-ons as FF. I've replaced IE with it and even though you have high-speed internet....you want a fast browser to render the websites and content....that's OPERA.

Really, I could care less who knows my browsing habits. Unless you're looking at something you're ashamed to be looking at, what difference does it make. And my motto is, "If you're ashamed to be caught doing it, you shouldn't be doing it."

Don't forget OPERA. It has the best page zoom on the market. I am highly myopic and use it a lot. I

only have to press the + and - sign to magnify/zoom out.

Haha...really feels good that some of Mercola's readers see more than we are presented. Wondering why Mercola is showing us this new tool...worried that it will give out the wrong impression that google is actually a good guy!

Google Chrome is amazing, but it sucks at making posts for anything with textbox's.

It's speed is way better than FF, IE and Opera for sure.

There was a very informative documentary that came on about "Big Brother" and how they proved Google, for example, stored every search that a person made on their search engine. Their browser has already been noted in more than once publication about having issues. I will never change from Internet Explorer, Microsoft Windows Vista and future versions and search engines like Yahoo, regardless. I am sure that pretty much all search engines are setup close to this way, but Google has gotten so over-rated that I just don't really bother.

Since IE no longer supports Mac products, I'm not interested in IE8's functionality. I use Firefox & Safari. (I love the way Firefox ignores pop-ups). I'll download Chrome and give it a try once the bugs are out.
