As well as the pesticides it is the radiation emitted by the cell phone towers that went up in 1994. If you can get a cell phone signal then there is microwave radiation present. Another factor is the HAARP array in Alaska and now in Antartica. The strength of this array was dramatically increased in 2006.

German scientists have been researching this for decades. It is not a surprise to them.

The radiation destroys the bees immune systems so they can no longer fight off infestations form parasites, mites nor pesticide damage, which they used to be able to do to a certain extent. The radiation also interferes with the bees navigation and communication capabilities.

I wrote a response to the decline in the honeybee population a while back but I can't remember everything I said:) Anyway here goes again, sort of. I have been a beekeeper for about 2-3 years now and my mentor has been keeping bees for over 35 years. He lost all but 2 of his 15 hives last winter. We live in a very rural part of NC and there are no cell phone towers that we know of. I think that the cell phone useage might be contributing to the honeybee decline but I think the bigger problem is lack of sustainable food and pesticides. I'm not talking about huge planes flying over and dropping pesticides onto the crops (we then are supposed to eat, yuck). I'm talking about your neighbors, your friends, etc. "Oh my, I see a fly in the house, call the exterminator!" We as a society cannot get past the fact that insects are supposed to be here. Ask around, you will be amazed at how many people use some type of professional exterminator service or store bought pesticide. As far as food goes, how many people do you know still grow a garden? Hardly any. Bees need flowers, flowering trees and flowering vegetables as much as we need them to pollinate our food. The further they have to go for food, the less likely they are to find their way home. (Another thing to consider is the medias hand in all of this. Everything in nature has cycles of increase and decline. The honeybee went through something similar to this in the late 80's and early 90's.)

Support your local beekeepers organization. All of the beekeepers that I know are more than willing to pass along any information that they have. Buy local honey if you can find it. Plant some flowers that you know the honeybees will like. Most of all educate yourself and your family about the importance of honeybees. Teach your kids (and maybe yourself) not to kill everything that can sting. Honeybees rarely ever sting unless they are squashed or defending their hive. They are fascinating, lovely creatures. Are you kidding me ??? We let the EPA allow products on the market and publish, in their own words, that use of the product could cause the death of insects, animals, whatever ??

Why don't we make guns available to anyone, regardless of age, sanity, or criminal record ?? We just need to hand them a document stating that use of the gun could kill someone. Then everything will be OK, right ????

WHAT A TOTAL DISRESPECT THAT THE EPA HAS FOR HUMANITY !!

hi all, aust is now importing honey from china! largest processor has been quietly doing it since late last year i hear.

not CCD here, just drought!

biggest retailer is Aldi. and WW and coles. labelled aust, but it is NOT pure aussie.

cheap honey is also possibly diluted with "packing syrup" and that can be many things..none of which is honey!

china exports to other countries. they pack and relabel as product of..where ever.

china has a chemical contamination of phenols and other chemicals.

doesn't anyone else think it odd? that china and argentina, also very large suppliers are NOT mentioning issues with CCD.

we have mobiles here too folks, but most bees are not near them, maybe usa has many more towers out of suburbia?

normal power lines (high voltage) do affect bees, however about 1000 feet away is safe. chemicals are the most likely issue and gm crops.

One thing overlooked in a society that is suffering from get rich quick syndrome, is that so goes the earth, and all of it's creatures so goes mankind. The benefits from GMO is only money, and those who do the research, and tests have refused to take things far enough to see the true destruction caused by somethng out of a Frankenstein novel. We have created freaks of nature, and the future consequences are likely known, but like most truth in the scientific world are kept secret, away from prying eyes. Bees Birds, Bats, Frogs, and the like are giving us a signal that something is very wrong with our world, but because of money too few of us are listening.

We have labs creating new illnesses just to sell new drugs, but the truth be told this earth left to nature, has many more benefits than all the scientific tampering promoted by man. As a Christian I believe as the Bible says that we shall die in a polluted land, and not by any accident of nature. I have seen my enemy and he is my fellow man, and he goes by the title "GREEDY."

I think it is totally possible that the crazy rise in cell phone usage, satellite systems and wireless networks in the past 10 years may be causing some interference too. Everything is connected to everything and when you inject EMFs into everything via wireless connections now instead of hardlined connections - it may just throw the bees off enough so that they cannot return to their hive; although I am sure that the pesticides do not help either. Haven't pesticides been around a looonng time. I would think negative effects on the hives would have shown much sooner, but think about the first time you bought a cell phone and what year it was. Then when you started to notice everybody with a cell phone....I am thinking I noticed everybody in about 2000 and then also a sharp rise in satellite TV as opposed to cable which is hardlined.....

Seriously though, this whole colony collapse phenomenon scares me. My theory is that it is a masterminded plot to make us all dependant on GMO and artificially produced foods. When we are all hungry, and all the seeds from organic, whole food is gone...will we have a choice?? Evil Big pharma will laugh all the way to the bank as they control the world...

Does the evil of these people never cease? What is it with Bayer - they aren't content with their nazi-era killings (remember, these guys were part of IG Farben and sponsored Dr Josef Mengele..!!), so now it's just continued and continued, and they decide now to branch out into other species too?!

Obviously this is the answer to our Colony Collapse Disorder. It's the pesticides that are killing our bees.
