Undoubtedly going overboard to follow these regulations regarding country of origin, the steer that ended up being labeled "Canada Mexico USA" really got around! Or am I missing something? -Like the unannounced but in-place treasonous North American Confederation that puts the final coup de gras to our Constitution and the existence of this country.

What does everyone think?

• Processed foods do not have to be labeled

• Foods used as ingredients in other products don’t have to be labeled (so while lettuce has to be labeled, salad mixes do not)

• If a store adds spices or does any additional processing to an imported food, it is considered to have undergone “substantial transformation” and can be labeled “Made in USA” (even if the original food or ingredient came from China or another country)"

What a piece of useless legislation!

However, one troubling issue remains: the lettuce I picked up today was grown in California, much of which is polluted with perchlorate. It can't be washed off; it's in the plant's very tissues. Florida is perchlorate-free. I wasn't paying attention in the produce aisle. Next time I shop I will be more careful and make a point of looking for Florida-grown crops.

re: Food Rules: Labels Must Now Give Origin

The New Zealand government has just rejected the call via a petition for country of Origin labelling of food. Its reason - the say it would inhibit free trade. They have just shown a complete disregard for the rights of the individual to know what they are eating. As far as we are concerned, we will only eat food if we know where it comes from. I would consider this rejection more of an inhibition of free trade as it means we will not be buying food we might have bought had we known where it was from.

re: Food Rules: Labels Must Now Give Origin

How would they word this label, lol?

PETA Urges Ben & Jerry's To Use Human Milk
http://www.wptz.com/news/17539127/detail.html
