What are soap nuts and what exactly do they do? I've never heard of them. Can you get them at any Natural store?

When using peroxide and vinegar, do you spray one, wipe, and then spray the other and wipe again? Or do you spray one, spray the other, and then wipe once? Do you need to combine the two before wiping (not in one bottle but spraying separately? Does it matter either way? What I'm getting at is does spraying both make the two more powerful? Or as someone commented in another location, does combining the two cause a poisonous chemical reaction?

Wow. This is really scary. The part that scares me the most is this... "Lister’s carbolic acid, now known as phenol, is a common main ingredient in household detergents like Lysol, Pine-Sol and ***-n-Span. It’s also found in mouthwash....Phenol is toxic and people who are hypersensitive can experience serious side effects at very low levels."

Mouthwash is toxic? I think almost everyone in my family uses mouthwash... and how many people do you know that use lysol? My mom used lysol all the time when I was a kid. She was always spraying it all over the place. I am thinking I am hypersensitive to phenol... and that is why I was always sleeping a lot as a child. My mom poisoned me! Very scary!

People need to wake up. There are other alternatives to mouthwash... and lysol, etc. Go to your local health store and talk to them about your needs. Become aware because you might just be damaging your families (as well as your own) health!

I was diagnosed with MCS and have been using vinegar and baking soda to clean everything for over 5 years now.

I wash my clothes with them, placing 1 cup of baking soda in the tub and filling the fabric softener container with white vinegar--works wonderfully. I wad up a piece of aluminum foil and place it in my dryer to replace dryer sheets. No more static cling.

A note about using vinegar: Make sure the label reads "from natural grains". If it doesn't say it, it's pretty much guaranteed from petroleum products (less expensive to produce).

The first step to eliminating the need for deodorants is to stop using soap which alkalizes the normally acidic skin. I haven't used soap for over 35 years ... yet my sweat is odorless!!! For a super "water wetter" with a really clean feel, I use Shaklee's Basic -H ... no more than 10 drops for my entire head and body. I also use Alfalfa tablets as "Nature's Deodorizer" and eat lots of fresh dark green veggies! It takes a while to normalize the body so be patient!

How do you get rid of the mold in the shower/around the tub if you don't use bleach? I don't have the time to clean every day or other day. Will just spraying after each shower with vinegar, peroxide, or baking soda water keep the mold from forming?

Don't forget to talk to your school about their cleaning supplies too! Doris Rapp M.D.'s book discusses how chemicals and pesticides at our schools can affect children's thinking and behavior. My grammar school now uses safer cleaners because just one person went in and talked to them about it. They researched it, realized the potential benefits and made the change.

I just had to send a comment & add my 3 cents to the person who said they make their own cleaners with ingredients such as "Ammonia and Chlorine" Never ever ever never mix ammonia and chlorine or bleach (same thing) together unless you want to die fast right then as you are about to clean things - among other nasties -together they produce deadly chlorine gas - not only that but LOTS of it - quickly. So WARNING - do NOT mix ammonia and chlorine(bleach) together or anything that might have either as it's ingredient.

I've used soap nuts for the past 18 months to do my laundry with. They're the best things I've used so far - no horrible chemical smells, they work well, leave your clothes incredibly soft, and they grow on trees!! Plus they're economical, cheap, make good fertiliser or compost, and help out communities in other parts of the world who could do with the help.

I was really pleased as well to go into my local organic/health food/etc co-op the other day and find they were giving away free 150ml samples of various household cleaners based on simple essential oils, fruit juices (like lemon juice), alcohol, baking soda, peroxide etc. They passed my test anyway and seem to work well.

I use a product made by Norwex and I don't use any chemicals when I clean.I wash my windows and mirrors with water and use their window cloth. In the bathroom and kitchen I use their enviro cloths with water to take off soap scumb and grease.
