I would be surprised if a healthy adult could sleep deep enough to inadvertantly suffocate a baby. They struggle quite strongly when neccessary.

The culprit to SIDS is solely vaccines. My son almost stopped breathing, but thanks to nursing him I was able to notice that something wasn't right. He had gotten his routine Hep-B vaccine and a few days later his skin color changed to a silver-gray and while nursing he was bopping his head in an awkward manner that it was so uncomfortable to nurse him. Instead of putting him down to sleep after nursing him I went to the Peds Office to have him checked. While in the waiting room I noticed his nostrils flaring, I picked him up and dashed to a doctor to check him. The doctor sent me to go straight to the hospital because there wasn't enough time to call the ambulance, he was not breathing well. I instructed them to give him asthmatic medicine to open his lungs up to buy some time in case he wouldn't make the trip to the hospital. At the hospital they admitted him at once. They claim that he had SARS, but if I had put him to sleep after his meal he would have had SIDS!!!!

He had no other symptoms except for the skin color change and his behavior while nursing. Stay away from vaccines they are deadly and alter our children's immune systems, contributing to chronic diseases, allergies, mental and physical disabilities that they claim to be "GENETIC DISPOSITION". They are truly unnecessary and legally absolutely not mandatory. Go to atlanteanpress.com and get your affidavit exemption form for your state and legal law, it will cost you maybe $6.00. After my sons near fatal disaster I got my affidavit for exemption for all my kids and have not allowed anyone to touch them again. All my kids go to school and no one has uttered a second word about vaccinations when they see the AFFIDAVIT. Please do not fall for the vaccine trap and sacrifice your child's life in any form.

I wonder if baby monitors, cordless phones, or cell phones in the home - even a nearby cell phone mast - is responsible for SIDS? Did they bother to check the distance from cell phone masts in this study?

Come on Dr. M. - not sleeping with your baby to prevent SIDS ranks right up there with the fear tactic used to promote vaccinations! I am disheartened that you didn't do more research into this. I beleive if you do unbiased study of the research available, you'd find that co-sleeping actually DECREASES the risk of SIDS. (Ever check who paid for the studies that recommend cribs???) There is a website and survey that encourages parents to stand up and be counted as sucessful "co-sleepers". The stigma attached to bed sharing in this country can prevent accurate accounting for all those who have safely slept with their babies. Sleeping with our four children was one of the best decisions we made as parents. Mothers instinctively wake up just prior to their infants. Like drinking raw milk, there are some risks - drinking and drug use by adult(s) in the bed - but the benefits FAR outweigh the dangers. How else could humans have gotten this far - the family bed has been used by many more people worldwide than the crib!!!!!

Bravo to breastfeeders, co-sleepers, un-vaccinated babies and babies who have beautiful heads and happily sleep on their side or tummy- as my baby girl is all of these things. Interesting points about the tongue study...it makes sense that a vaccination might cause a neurological dysfunction causing the tongue to cause suffocation. I'm pretty sure that a fully functioning brain cannot let a human suffocate themselves, but I could be wrong so don't freak out on me please:). I am sure that vaccines are the problem...almost 100%. The mother's health during pregnancy and breastfeeding is also imperative because the stronger the health in the child, the smaller their predisposition for effects from vaccines or vulnerability to disease will be...even though the vaccines should be avoided alltogether. As usual, it is key to focus on other cultures and how our nation hasn't "caught on" to healthy practices! it is clear that big Pharma and American industry thrives on the sick people of our nation.

In 1975 they raised the childhood vaccination age in Japan from 2 months to 2 years of age and SIDS virtually disappeared overnight in that country. I'm sure the vaccine manufacturers would state this is just a coincidence.

I read somewhere that the HEP B shot was the cause. They stopped giving that vaccine as well as a few other in Japan that they said had no merit.

Can someone clarify about the mattress wrapping? Can a "conventional" mattress be wrapped this way and be made safe? Or is this to provide some waterproofing to an organic mattress?

I'm writing because my son had to have a helmut to reshape his head from sleeping on his back. The doctors told me it will reshape on it's own- but that's not true! If you catch this before 6 months it's MUCH easier to correct, but because his head circumference was large (because of the bulging from the flattening) they kept doing MRI's and other tests for other possibilities. I KNEW it was from the flattening, but being a first time mom I felt that I must do what they say. Well, finally at 10 months we did the helmut and it was a good thing. It took 4 months to reshape (and not completely).

When my daughter came along I knew better. I noticed by 6 weeks that she was favoring one side of her head and mentioned this and a slight flattening to my chirpractor. She was trained in this so she was able to actually reshape her skull! When my daughter sucked on a bottle or pacifier, the doctor could feel where the plates of the skull were and was able to maipulate it to the proper shape! It took a few visits and it was miraculous. I only wish I knew about it for my son. It would have been a whole lot cheaper and easier for him.

If you know anyone with babies whose heads are flattening, please let them know that there are options.

Ren. Man: You are correct about the Towbin study done in 1969. Dr Towbin found evidence of lesions or hemorrhages in the cervical spinal chord in 7 out of 8 SIDS babies he autopsied. These stats have never been widely publicized. I have had the privilege to adjust newborns. (very gentle Toftness Technique)

Years ago I did some research into SIDS. What I found was that vaccinations were the number 1 cause except in the US where vaccines are protected. In Japan they did a study and found that they could reduce the risk of SIDS by over 80% by not giving any vaccine before the age of two. The results were so good they started making it a practice to not vaccinate newborns. The same study was done in Germany with identical results. The conclusion is that in some infants, the vaccines will compromise their developing breathing system and ends in death. Every parent whose child died of SIDS that I interviewed, revealed that their child was given vaccinations within the last two weeks. It was also found that most doctors never reported that the death could be vaccine related, those that admitted it could be, refused to report it as such. After the mounds of research I went through I am a firm believer that most (90%) of SIDS deaths are preventable. I still get in trouble whenever I question a doctor or health "professional" about vaccinations. I have yet to find one that has actually read the warning pamplet that comes with each vaccine. Conclusion is clear, newborn vaccinations is a major cause of SIDS. Too bad the US refuses to look at the facts.

Placing babies on their back is not necessarily the best idea because it prevents the development of secondary curves. The baby is in the fetal position (obviously) in the womb, when it is born it needs to be able to follow proper physical development which starts with lifting the head and then arching the back. Being on the back only exaggerates the primary curves that the baby in born with.

Co-sleeping should not be done when the parent is under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication that affects the sentral nervous system. Apart from that it is natural for a baby to be as close as possible to the mother. The mother's heart rhythm and breathing (causing some air movement) act as stimuli for the baby's breathing. The advantage of breastfeeding is that the baby wakes up more often because the milk is so easily digested, while formula takes longer and may cause the baby to sleep more deeply, increasing the risk of apneoa.

Both my babies slept on the bed next to me - it was the way to get the most sleep since a baby can nurse even when the mother falls asleep ;-). In my opinion mothers are more aware of their babies during sleep than the father - it would certainly be natural - so we had the bed against the wall with the baby, the mommy and then the daddy. One friend made the comment that you wouldn't fall off your bed at night as you are aware of the edge even during sleep - the same way a mother is aware of her baby.

If you don't believe vaccinations are related to SIDS, I definitely recommend the book "A Shot in the Dark" by Harris L. Coulter and Barbara Loe Fisher. Read it and see if you don't think there is a relationship. Scary stuff.

I was surprised to notice that nobody had made a comment about the correlation between SIDS and cervical trauma suffered during the birth process, [See study by Drs Towbin and Windsor in Lancet, in the 70's,] The extreme amount of force and traction on the upper cervical spine, that a significant % of babies are subjected to during their births, has been shown to be responsible for over 40% of still born births and is implicated in the majority of SIDS cases as well, not to mention colic, childhood asthma, and a whole slew of other childhood maladies.

This is why new borns should all be checked by a chiropractor who is experienced in adjusting infants.

The results will simply amaze you.
