As a thought on not over-using music - when I'm lifting and I need to move heavy weight or I need to perform an intense sprint, I'll crank up some angry music. For the rest of the workout I might listen to something laid back. People always laugh when they ask what I'm listening to at different times, since it ranges from Wes Montgomery and Wagner all the way to Pantera and Iron Maiden, LOL.

This way, I can use music every session, just not throughout the entire thing.

Aside from being a drummer, I'm always listening to music whenever I can. When I'm working out or needing to get some aggressions out, I crank the metal up. But I try to balance as much as I can. So when I need to calm down, meditate, go to sleep...etc, I put on New Age/Meditative music.

What a release, to listen and move to rhythm. Dancing runs in my father's side of the family. The exercise was great, though the cig smoke created a lot of sinus infections, and led to my tonsils being removed at age 45. After leaving some of the places with my ears ringing, I knew I had hearing damage, and often wanted to create a place for young and old that was healthier. I may still do that some day. My taste in music is eclectic, as I love rock'n roll, country, disco, blues, jazz, etc. My favorite new song on Youtube is Mercy by Duffy. She also sings Warwick Avenue. My channel is rare1walking, where I slowly take the time to collect my favorites and create a playlist. Any artist or song you like, can usually be found on Youtube.

I have yet to get a stereo with great speakers, or even a car with a good radio, and am behind on buying an IPod, etc., though I love music. One of these days when I"m more moved into my little downsizer house, I'll put on my friend George's records, one at a time. At 85, he came to my old country house to paint a mural on my dining room wall, stored his music in my attic, and passed two years later. Anyone who wants a picture of his mural can email me at leangreencafe@yahoo.com My generation loved Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Segar, etc. I loved Tina Turner, The Pointer Sisters, Aretha Franklin, and more. Music, words, beat.

I bought an old player piano with 90 rolls of music when my children were still young, and pumped it while they went to sleep. Always, Blue Danube, Vienna Waltz, Chattanooga Choo Choo, Blackbird, Blackbird helped me sing away the postpartum blues, life's blues, and stay slim. I still pay attention first, to music. My best.

www.Beethoven.com.

There is very little commercial content, the sound quality is excellent, and they often play complete pieces, instead of snippets, of symphonies, concertos, et cetera. They seem to cover the complete range of composers, from a to Z., and types of classical music from the Baroque to modern, Including Pops and movie themes. They also provide you with the music log so you can find out who composed the piece you're listening to as well as the artist and label so that you can buy the CD if you like. They also have Saturday night at the Opera for opera lovers. I've tried other Internet sources of classical music but I keep coming back here. I've been listening for several years and my appreciation and understanding of classical music went from zero to where I can now identify the various composers from the "signatures" of their composing style.

Just turn it on and you have relaxing music accompanying whatever you're doing, whether reading something, working, or creating.

www.brennerchildrens.org/.../NICU.htm

In one study: babies were exposed to harp music, three times a week for about an hour during their stays in the nursery. In addition to measuring heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, and weight gain, the study measured cortisol, a hormone that is a marker for stress. Preliminary findings indicated that harp music decreased the stress levels of the babies.

Sound healing with singing bowls aspires to stimulate the underdeveloped right side of the brain so that balance may be restored.

Experiments have shown that with only 20 minutes of sound therapy from a singing bowl, many people coming from a high stressful situations, were able to reach a relaxed state; with many of them being able to reach theta waves and a few even being able to peak into delta waves. With continued use of singing bowls and sound healing it is possible to make alpha waves the most prominent of your brain waves when confronted with high stress situations that would have caused increased pressure in the past. As always, the intent of the person is the most imperative part of relaxation techniques and the search for synchronization between the two hemispheres of the brain; and as long as a person is willing to open up their mind and body to the resonance of the singing bowl, healing effects can mend and sooth the soul into a sense of peace and harmony.

Dr. M. Gaynor, Director of Oncology at the Cornel Cancer Prevention Ctr. states: “‘Sound can redress imbalances on every level of physiologic functioning and can play a positive role in the treatment of virtually any medical disorder.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is also a profound form of vibrational healing, see: www.jsjinc.com

When I need to de-stress, I play Beethoven, Mozart, Greig, Dvorak, and Vivaldi, and sometimes I listen to the entire Carmen ballet suite. Then, I follow that up with........AC/DC! It works everytime. I feel de-stressed, peaceful , and happy courtesy of the classical music, and then revved up and rarin' to go courtesy of AC/DC.

A person with a few years 'under their belt' can readily observe general changes in personal attitude - maybe not of an especially 'ascending' nature for the most part. This could be a better world I firmly believe if only more people knew of, and indulged in, "catching the wave" of the greatest of classical music! The heart swells, one becomes nobly transformed, and can feel a rush of love for humanity. All great art is divinely inspired, which in turn, inspires us when we are receptive. I'm not referring to religion. Isn't it a real shame that more people don't even know the existence of such a rewarding experience - free and available at any time? I would add that true folk music (of any country) in its pure state, whether instrumental or vocal, also can certainly elevate. Perhaps not to the degree of the 'Art Song', for example. The 'crime' or loss is there's been very little encouragement for mostof us in the various stages of life to sympathetically vibrate with higher forms of music.
