It was then that I learned about the importance of our gut in relation to our overall health. The information led me to change my diet, scaling way back on sugar, white, processed, refined, altered foods, and I purchased a water ionizer machine.

So overwhelmed I was/am I recently wrote a book to share with others the absolute truth of Dr. Mercola's article. For years, like all women I suffered from yo-yo weight gains, sedentariness, depression, all those things that happen when we eat acidic foods and carry too much weight around making our bodies work against us not for us. My book, "Sexy In Your 60s, How You Can Naturally Reverse The Aging Process & Rejuvenate Your Life", stands as my personal testimonial. Since changing what I eat and drink, exercising regularly and having a can-do mindset, my weight has remained at height/weight perfect for four years. I take no pharma drugs and for the most part only engage in natural, alternative medicine and supplements.

I've never had more energy or felt better in my life.

Most people don't understand yeast/mold/fungus.

Personally I know what it can do when it overgrows, while most doctors are totally unaware. (Some doctors even treat yeast with antibiotics).

Yeast/fungus causes many health issues, and my advice would be to treat yourself with natural antifungals such as oil of oregano, caprylic aciod, or olive leaf extract at least once per year, and take a good probiotic for life. Its cheap, non toxic, and will benefit your health.

Gut flora represents a field of study of greater merit to the art and science of healing than the genetic code that has so many times been used as propaganda for genocide against people and animals that are together as numerous as the flora in one person's gut. There are not complete maps of the human gut flora although probiotics are generally accepted as important for health and the digestive tract as 80% of the immune system. There are however anti-biotics and other toxins that can wipe out your gut bacteria and give you digestive problems, like Krohn's disease, if your husband won't let up, and hinder the elimination of toxins causing heart disease and cancer and other serious diseases and food allergies. Medical science clearly needs to stoop to this great challenge of knowing all the friendly and bad bacteria living in our gut so that we can maintain the proper levels of these symbiotic bacteria.

In regards to the issue of American obesity, it is clearly Dr. Mercola's fault, just joking, the fault seems to lie with the English language. The word obesity is abused to mean extremely fat, when the word would be better to catch the abdomen, as it begins to become oblong, and protrude past the rib cage, an indication that the person must begin doing sit-ups and satisfy their hunger with a vegetarian diet to maintain their healthy figure.

Before suspecting that the landladies are fattening us up for the de-liver-y of heart disease and cancer, it is probably good to look at other causes of the obesity epidemic. Fatty, fried, processed and starchy foods will make you fat and meat takes time to digest and is quite fatty. Furthermore television lowers your metabolism to a level lower than when you are sleeping and will make you fat. So if you are concerned with obesity and being overweight try to take joy and satisfaction from eating healthy fruits and vegetables and exercise.

I have read that some probiotics are a lot more useful than others. When I have taken some, I have not noticed a difference one way or the other, although I don't know if it's normal to notice a difference... or not.

As for gaining weight, I have always been naturally fairly thin, just like my Dad. After about age 35 or so, I became able to gain a bit of weight / fat (up to 20 lbs max), so I read the book "Protein Power" by Dr. Eades and Dr. Eades -- really interesting. I started eating low carb as a result most of the time and when I stick to that, I lose weight. Interestingly, around the time I started eating low carb most of the time, I stopped getting colds or the flu. I don't have an explanation for sure as to why, since I used to get colds like everyone else. The switch to low carb happened around the same time, so I assume it's that. I have only had about 3 colds in the past 8 years.

I also now use The Sedona Method, which I found out about through a virtual conference thanks to this web site. I find it the most useful self-help program I have ever used. http://www.sedona.com/ or I believe it's also on mercola.com

The Sedona Method is basically releasing counter-productive emotions (on any subject). For any habit you want to be rid of, you release the feelings before you do it.

These beneficial bacteria are destroyed by common factors such as carbonated drinks, laxatives, birth control pills, coffee, alcohol, aging, stress, and antibiotics. I believe that everyone need to be taking Flora and Enzymes to strengthen your body’s defenses and support your overall health. Infinity2’s formulation has not one, but twelve strains of these healthy bacteria, combined with natural sources of prebiotic FOS (fructooligosaccharides) to further enhance and promote the growth of probiotic flora. These twelve strains are selected and manufactured according to the proprietary processes that ensure these organisms are able to survive the digestive processes and colonize the digestive tract for optimum benefit. There is different kinds of Flora out there make sure you are getting one that is shelf stable because the ones that require refrigration you can't trust if they have always maintained the proper temperture during shipping and storage. Then are they going to live long enough in your 98 degree body to make it where they need to go!

I get mine at www.infinity2.com/ekoliver for a Flora that is shelf stable

Several ways of preventing and reversing the above and thus keeping internal bacteria in balance (and inflammation at bay) are to periodically juice fast and have regular colonic irrigations; regularly use a good probiotic, bioavailable vitamins, and ionic minerals (all super-absorbable); and to avoid pharmaceutical drugs.

Also, using digestive enzymes with meals is greatly helpful, while proteolytic enzyme supplements between meals act as a natural anti-inflammatory.

For me, ingesting fresh-pressed juice, either daily or as needed, is a great additional alkalizing mineral boost.

I didn't have a clue what that meant, until I started researching probiotics. After reading a bit, I realized that I was an animal too, and it must be good for me too, so I started taking some. When I am taking the probiotics regularly, I do not get sick, I do not get colds nor the flu. Other problems started clearing up too. When I would stop taking the probiotics for a couple of months, I would get sick again. Amazing how it worked. Six months ago, at the advice of my M.D. I switched from the probiotics I had been taking all this time to the one that Dr. Mercola sells on his site. This brand also seems to work great too. Most of my diet is very natural, all of my meats are grass fed, Last week, I put a hog which had been raised in the woods and swamp in the meat house. This afternoon, I will put the venison I shot this morning into the freezer and dehydrator. We eat a bunch of home made sour *** here. Our veggies are grown in our organic garden, being only rinsed in water, leaving the good bacteria on them. New week we plan to pick up a goat which is fresh, so we will then have our own raw goat milk each morning. All of this really affects how I feel. Last weekend, I was on a 4 day retreat and ate the garbage which the dinning hall called good food, and I came home feeling terrible. It has taken a few days to purge my system of all that nasty food like stuff and now I am feeling much better. Folks, where your food comes from does matter. If you want to help change how our food is produced, then you can do it with your pocket book and also by checking out fooddeclaration.org . Food should be produced biologically, striving for the highest nutrient quality, not most quantity.

I think the importance of our symbiotic relationship with our commensal flora is underestimated , normal gut flora is essential for good health .

It’s clear that antibiotics have had a disastrous effect on the quality of our gut flora .Our gut flora is acquired from the birth process or soon after , the mucus ingested from the birth canal being the main source and mothers milk thereafter .

So the quality of gut flora deteriorates with each generation, hence the exponential growth in Autism [see my site below] Asthma and many more so called auto-immune diseases…This immunologist spells it out ,he’s under no doubt that antibiotics alter the balance of our gut flora allowing yeast to dominate . This he maintains is the cause of the rocketing growth of Asthma ..As an ex yeast victim I wouldn’t argue ..The evidence is clear , so why do the medical profession steadfastly refuse to acknowledge yeast as a health issue …there no doubt we are, medically speaking in the Dark Ages.

She's obviously a fan of Weston Price's principles, adds food combining techniques and a whole lot of knowledge I haven't found elsewhere. Three days into the diet, I feel WAY less bloated and have noticed a big change in my stools (sorry to be gross). I don't know how it will go over the long term, but her principles look like a winner.

One thing that's not in the 1996 version of her book (I have the latest version on order) is one of the best probiotics I've found: cultured cabbage juice. A "take matters into your own hands/don't rely only the drugs" AIDS website calls it the "50 cent cure". Here's a link to one explanation of it: homodiet.netfirms.com/.../cabbage_juice.htm. In using it, make sure the cabbage is organic and any water without chlorine is good (I wouldn't use energy dead distilled water). Doesn't smell so nice, but it works way better than the high priced probiotics.

I read somewhere a while back that the human body has about100 different strains of bacteria in the gut. I would wonder if it might be an out of balance, or not having all that might lessen health a bit. Most probiotic supplements I have found has not a lot of varieties.

This is one step me and the wife are going to put with her now RA porocol. We plan to flood her gut with all it will hold and then some.

I have been inquiring about a supplement given to horses-$14.99 for a five lb. bucket, vs $40.00 for 30 day supply capsuls for humans. What I have found is that one paticular strain is now being heavily researched as the top dog--at least for a horse and cows. But, no reply yet. Maybe asking too many questions, like, how many guarenteed live cultures per serving, and how long shelf life.

Sinse I am also animal, I have taken horse supplements for a while-on and off-not started to neigh yet.

If vets can cure so many animals, then maybe what they use can cure me and the wife. At least a foot in another direction other than traditional medicine, which has gotten the wife nowhere, except bed-fast.

re: Waste From Gut Bacteria Helps Control Your Weight

This is very interesting. Scientists have always claimed that a calorie is equal for everybody, but I've seen in my own family how different it is!

I gain weight easily. I was a small child, but that's because I ate maybe 800-1200 calories a day till I was around 18. My 9yo daughter is the same, and just finally hit 50 pounds.

My husband generally eat 3000-4000 calories a day, and is 20 pounds overweight. I eat less than half of what he eats, and am 90 pounds overweight. And the difference is somewhat in activity level, but obviously not all. Our son takes after him. He is 12 and 90 pounds (a tad heavy) and eats about what I ate during my pregnancies.

As an obese person struggling to lose weight, it is tiring hearing people tell me all I need to do is eat less and exercise more.

I'm wondering if my struggle with yeast in my gut is related to this bacteria?

And I'm sure there are multiple factors in why some have a fast metabolism and others don't.
