I would be shocked if someone had proof that the FDA was NOT corrupt. Corruption comes with the territory. As much as I'd like some entity to certify product claims, I think we're better off if there is no regulation than with a corrupt system that certifies products based on politics. If there was no government oversight, people would be more wary of product claims. As it is, the public assumes that the FDA is doing it's job. This is an expensive fraud perpetrated on the American people that leads them to complacency and illness.

Don't you find it interesting that all of the new Presidents choices for 'HIGH GOVERNMENT POSITIONS" are guilty of CRIMES but have not been convicted as they are LAWYERS and can break the LAWS with IMPUNITY!!! Amazing. This is the REAL REASON PEOPLE GO TO LAW SCHOOL!

Stop the LAWYERS, and you will see the Government begin to clean up, the FDA begin to clean up, as the corruption and GREED (money) AND JUSTIFICATION always comes from SOME LAWYER JUSTIFYING WRONG!!

This was very informative to me and I've learned a lot about the FDA I generally felt, but never found anyone to have the guts to admit to it. I was an RN for over 15yrs before a spinal cord injury ended my career. I had great insurance and drug coverage........THEN the Medicare D program was voted in and within days, my insurance company informed me that I could keep my insurance coverage (at a huge cost) but I was no longer allowed drug coverage by them since I was on Medicare for my disability. I could no longer afford the insurance AND the cost of Medicare D so had to drop my secondary insurance and stick with only Medicare and Medicare D. Medicare D is the biggest joke and mess that the House and Congress ever did to any of us on Medicare due to a disability, NOT on Medicaid and under the age of 50! I wasn't allowed a Medigap policy until I reached 50, which was six years after my injury! I just finally was allowed one under my membership in AARP! One I could afford because I finally found an honest agent that only charged me what it actually is suppose to sell for instead of several thousands more per year that other insurance companies wanted to charge me! Having been an RN who loved her job and patients, I have to say I am beginning to dislike the Health Care System as a whole, FDA included, more than I ever thought I would. Luckily, I have a pain management doctor who prescribes for me generics 3 out of the 4 meds I take from him and a primary care doc who hates to give out drugs if he doesn't HAVE to!! He only prescribes me a generic for my BP which also works synergistic along with my pain meds to help the nerve pain from my cord injury! I have great docs who understand how the system works and neither like it very much and work more against it than for it. Kudos for them!!! Which is why I don't change doctors, nor go to more than one pharmacy for my meds, that way I don't get into any trouble with interactions. Great article, I'll be back for more!

I have a very similar story regarding the FDA, which by coincidence, just happened to me at my company last week with a visit by the FDA. I would like to speak directly to what happened if you can find someone who is willing to not only listen but write an article on the FDA demands putting me out of business because I do not comply to a made up definition of two words.

Well what do you expect the fda to claim if not dangerous-creating weapons of mass destruction would be the charge if Bush was head of fda.If fda is wrong why let el Presidente get away with even worse fraud?We do not need eagle as symbol but perhaps the guillotine as symbol to wake up bureaucrats.

We all know there are many fly by night bogus claims, on the web, and elsewhere. The FDA being one of them. I would like to see an investigation into the goings on at the FDA, with common everyday citizens called to testify, about BIG PHARMA, the FDA, and of course suppliments, and the companies who provide them.

This is the kind of thing we get whenwe as private citizens do not monitor our Government. The FDA is one of the most dangerous in my opinion because they peddle so many lies, under the guise of science.

I say, SHUT THEM DOWN....don't make it a smaller agency!

This UNconstitutional agency harbors a band of useless, corrupt, liars and thugs who do not belong between the American public and their doctors, health food stores, vitamin companies, etc. They serve no useful purpose but to enhance their own power thus enriching the thugs who run it, let alone enabling its foot soldiers to accrue power that they don't deserve.

How is it that a country once so free has become a country so enslaved??

I had to remove my testimonial from my personal Usana webpage because Usana felt it came to close to making "cure" claims and they didn't want to be targeted by the FDA. I tried rewording it, but it still didn't pass muster. I haven't yet figured out how to tell people how great this product is without getting me or Usana in trouble with the FDA. :-(

The food supplement industry isn't regulated. That is why we can buy supplements that say natural, and if they have something natural in them, that's okay. Too many have tested out to be lower in some claimed ingredient, or negligible. None are made to test for purity of raw materials, nor the finished product, or have scientific clinical studies back up their product's efficacy. Here is a list of prenatal, children's and women's vitamins for example, on an FDA site that have lead in them. Just look at the names on there. Our freedoms have already been removed for healthcare. Think about New Jersey toddlers not able to go to preschool or day care without a flu shot whose mercury amount wouldn't be safe unless they weighed 550 lbs. My own 86 yr. old father on the other end of the scale, has somehow been able to stay alive, despite the 25 medications he is on at the Oregon State Hospital. Any abuses there are only given lip service. OSH filed a Guardianship case to remove me totally from the picture, after I stopped paying his $460 Social Security because they continue to harm him like removing him from Seroquel for 24 hours. Seroquel, like the manuf. says, has caused multiple cases of aspiration pneumonia, as it makes the muscles in the esophagus rigid. Seroquel is an antipsychotic that causes seizures and psychotic breaks, and users should not miss a single dose, and have to be tapered slowly off.

Readers of Mercola's site are right to express how they feel. What this country needs is organization of citizens. Sounding off on websites that may be shut down in the future isn't going to resolve the problems. Is there a list of legislators that actually care, and have not been paid off? Will Obama care, or will his wife be the champion of healthcare reform? The list of vitamins with lead does not include men's vitamins. Why not? Are they only good to send to war? Outrage is boring?

In response to Rett, I agree. We cannot look to mankind, doctors, drug companies to keep us healthy. They are only interested in one thing--$$$$$$$$$. The Great Physician made our bodies and He knows how to keep them healthy. Jesus is the Great Physician. I agree to make our voices heard in the political arena, but ultimately, every person is responsible for the well being of their own body. Feed it properly, rest it properly, don't harbor anger, bitterness, resentments, stress, etc. and you body will serve you very well for many years. I am 64 years young. Jesus is my physician. He makes house calls and doesn't charge a dime. In fact, He paid the ultimate price for all of us. I take no medication, have perfect blood pressure, and am in perfect health, walk 5 miles a day--enjoy life to the fullest. Blessings, grace and peace to all. The FDA is not the only extortion racket in a medical industry that earns every penny it makes from torture or the fear of torture. Dietary supplement and natural remedy distributors are no exception. If they do medical research they will quickly be busting into the animal research laboratory supplies that keeps our hell care system, "the most expensive in the world".

The best idea supplied by Vital Votes was to stop waiting for the return alcohol and tobacco to medical supervision and legislative a divide in the FDA betwen its food, food supplement and drug components. I am not sure that that is the answer but it would make it how clear just how gray is the subject matter pertaining to health food supplements and natural remedies.

The answer to good health is of course to eat the right healthy foods and exercise, in all cases. Naturaly the FDA will be called upon to regulate the industry and they corruptly demand fees to approve the research although common sense, rather than corporate dollar, dictates that it is the researcher must be paid.

The FDA may however be right to attempt to separate the advertising of health benefits from the one page label advertisements. It may be that nutritional supplement marketers must produce their own literature to allow consumer to make an educated choice, but it is more likely that the FDA is extorting in behalf of their clients the medical monopoly of prescription drugs. Furthermore, because they caught at least one nice looking natural remedy marketer de-liver-ing toxins in the literature with their remedies that might otherwise have worked. The FDA also refuses to prosecute the medical establishment, the hand that feeds them, for a million more of the same crime. The oppression of the nutritional supplement market is clearly an extension of the drug war. Perhaps the FDA needs to demonstrate their respect for the harmlessness of natural remedies by approving their research free of charge.
