The incidence of the disease has been fueled by growing obesity rates and increasingly sedentary lifestyles. I am close to my ideal weight. I eat a VERY healthy diet low in carbs, no junk food, no processed foods, all whole grains, lots of fruits and veggies. I also exercise regularly. Yet here I am with diabetes. It is not always caused by lifestyle. There is nothing more that I could have done to prevent it.

Please don't assume that just because someone has type 2 diabetes that they are not taking care of their bodies.

The human body can function with a disrupted cycle - just not as well as it could. And there can be a 'domino' effect.

The prostaglandin cycle requires essential fatty acids in the right balance, plus many vitamins and minerals to ensure that each step in the cycle proceeds properly. Even then, supplementation with evening primrose oil or similar may be required if one has been born with a disrupted cycle - or illness has disrupted the cycle.

Our food now bears little resemblance to foodstuffs available to us at our beginnings. Growth of plants in less than ideal soils with fertilisers and insectides - meat animals raised on diets vastly different to their 'traditional' diets, pollution etc......then harvesting, transporting and storage, processing, refining and so forth all result in foodstuffs vastly different to the original diet. Add GM foods into the mix - and we are being fed and not nourished.

He spoke about the importance of the essential fatty acids and the vitamins and minerals required to use them within the prostaglandin cycle and also of the trans fatty acids/hydrogenated oils which cause severe disruption to this cycle.

We can live with a disrupted prostaglandin cycle - but not be healthy.

You haven't cited any research to support your statements and I would love to see you back your advice up with facts - it would strengthen your stance.

Do you do the research yourself? Do you have others you can reference with this data?

Thank you so much for your help.

I really feel that carbohydrate limiting is the answer for diabetes. My husband has diabetes and getting him to exercise and limit carbs is very difficult. Those old food habits are hard to break. (so, teach your children well and they will grow up healthy!)

I have read about Dr. Bernstein and his 35 years of treating his own Type 1 Diabetes simply with carb avoidance. His book and web site are a worthy read on the subject for both kinds of Diabetes. He has a balanced approach and is himself diabetic who treats other diabetics. Lots of experience.

Type 2 is a symptom of insulin resistance. Obesity is another symptom. The two are associated, which should not be confused with cause and effect. Type 2's are often obese because they can't metabolize sugars and other carbohydrates, which then are stored as fat. I am truly compassionate for most type 2 diabetics because they are told they "caused" their diabetes by getting fat. Nothing could be further from the truth. These unfortunate souls have been mislead by medical community, the government, and the media into eating the wrong diet. They are literally starving on their high-carb, low-at diets and of course have no energy to exercise! I know all this because I was almost one of them! Thank God I discovered Atkins, Mercola, Rosedale, Gary Taubes, et. al. and 9 years ago changed my diet. I am 55, slim, healthy, and not diabetic, though I was probably months away from a diagnosis before I changed my diet. I wish more could be done to stop the ADA, AHA, and AMA from "murdering" type 2s with their faulty dietary advice.

We’ll it would be strange if there wasn’t a connection ..The link is infection ..it’s proved with Rheumatoid Arthritis [google “rheumatoid arthritis infection”]… The obesity link is a red herring once removed …obesity is caused by inappropriate gut flora ..google “the obesity bug” and read this .

Our gut bugs can modify the immune response by switching genes ..well , well.. so we don’t want our gut bugs to escape to other areas of the body because they will not be recognised as pathogens .. ask any trauma doc how difficult it is to eradicate gut bugs that have escaped into other areas ..[as in car smashes]

Auto immune diseases is the immune system in wound response pushed there by pathogens that can manipulate the immune system .

Epsom salt: 1 pt. water, soak for 30 min. and you can re-use solution a few times. Bath---3 c. Epsom salt:tub of warm water, soak for about 30 min. By far the best way to get extra magnesium and our foods are woefully deficient in this mineral. Best orals are magnesium glycinate, taurate and malate. EAch one has different benefits, but these are the easiest on the digestive system. Go for 2-3 very soft stools/day. Over 300 functions in body CANNOT work if you are deficient in magnesium and more than 80% of us seriously deficient in magnesium!!! Important to have enough Vit. E (best form you can get), B6 and possibly digestive aids if you have malabsorption...).

BTW, I have never, to-date, in over 30 years, had one single regular client (at least once every few months) who has developed diabetes. I am a deep tissue massage therapist.

If you want to learn about magnesium right this minute, go to george-eby-research.com/.../depression-anxiety.html. This man has amassed over 160 pages of material on this site about magnesium and it won't cost you a cent to read it. Just looking at his first page, with his diagram of all the diagnoses that can be helped by magnesium is enough!!! Don't be misled by the title of his link; there's far, far more covered. And please, please, Dr. Mercola, when you talk about the rising diabetes rates, include talking about magnesium depletion!!!!!
